I am not sure how this differs from the Arkells being called the Arkells and the Town End being called whatever it is now, bar it being the whole ground.

I'd be astonished if this deal was worth any more than 5 figures. Redeveloping the ground will cost millions. So, no it won't. Which doesn't mean it isn't useful revenue, and it's more an addition to the ground name than a rename.

Sponsorship at our level baffles me anyway - how does anyone get the value back they pay for it?  It is hardly going to do much from brand recognition given the very limited exposure.  I can't even remember the name of the Town End sponsor - Arkells makes some sense in being local and Nationwide is almost like a charity deal when they get involved.  Oak Furniture Land might have worked, they could stick some veneer on the Arkells and claim it's new, as well as made entirely out of real oak, honest.

only 2 weeks ago they gave Partick Thisle £120k for the naming rights for 3 years, so I would guess we aren't far less than that.

Rather depends what they have paid though, if its under £10k getting your name on the TV once or twice a year would probably make it efficient.

They paid Bury nearly £200k and Partick £120k.

I'm duly astonished :) If we're getting that amount for basically tacking a qualifier that no-one will use on to the name of the ground, that's decent money.

I can't see that being a universally held opinion.

I suppose the one immediate query is who pays for the signs which will invariably be plastered all over the place, if the club are paying you will probably see 10%+ of the income going on that sort of stuff.

Frankly even if we make a tenner for not doing very much I really don't care!

The only time it has real value, beyond big clubs with huge TV exposure, is when a ground has never had a name before.  That actually leads to some oddities I find, like still calling Huddersfields ground the McAlpine, and haven't Bolton renamed the Reebok?

I remember thinking it seemed presumptuous of Stoke to call their new stadium the 'Britannia'.  It was only later that I realised that there was a building society involved.

Peterborough renamed their ground a couple of seasons back, and I don't remember there being much fuss about it up here.

Probably because the fans here like McAnthony, or more to the point dislike Barry Fry, so are more likely to forgive him. Whereas the more vocal element of our fans dislike Power so will use it as another excuse to have a go.

I'd rather it didn't get renamed, but it doesn't really impact me because it's still going to be the same to me whatever they decide to call it.  I guess its just the way football is going, it could be worse they could be trying to make us play away up North at 4pm on Christmas Eve (tough shit Arsenal)

Surely it's better than having a ground named after an owner  :)

It's really not significant enough to be told any more than we already have. It's really quite mundane, despite the histrionics of some. There's nothing for Power to say.

It's reassuring if this is the only stick some can find to try and beat Power with at the moment. Things must be going relatively well.

I was taken by something SSP said at the FGR match.  Power had "given Flitcroft the keys to the CG" back in the summer, probably sensibly he's now taking a back seat.

For anyone on the fence about the stadium name I can exclusively reveal that as part of the deal Energy Check have fixed the 'Next Fixture' sign on the Magic Roundabout. Great news.

Nothing earth shattering, it's an initial 1 year with option to extend if it goes well, they were keen to emphasise that they'd already been able to point to people switching via energy check to their account manager so I guess the "if it goes well" has some actual business targets around how many people use the service as opposed to just touchy-feely intangibles.

That would mean 'listening' can't be doing with that
