Post by: Barry Scott on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 17:54:42
Simple question, me and my girlfriend are wanting steak on Saturday night. Anyone know where I we can get a decent steak please?

Miller and Carter  :) not been to the one in Swindon but I've been elsewhere and it's a decent steakhouse.

I went to a Miller and Carter in Stoke and enjoyed it, but had overlooked it in all honesty.

I have a feeling this will end up being our destination.

Not thought of there. Good steak then?

El Torro used to be good for a steak, also does Tapas (assuming it still does).
The new place is the same holding company as Harvester which was in there before, but the menu looks good.

Now, if you were where I am the list would be a bit longer!

El Torro is shut now. The venue is now a himilayan restaurant.

Personally I think you are better off hitting the butchers and getting a good bit of rib eye and doing it yourself. Light up the bbq, blazing hot coals, 6 minutes over the heat turning every 60 seconds. Jobs a good un.

Helen browning chophouse in wood street is good for local meat. Same people who do the Royal Oak in bishopstone

Went to Miller & Carter, had the Rib Eye which is £25.  It was alright, but not a £25 steak.  I might have had it on a bad night for them though...

However, the beef dripping steak sauce is mental, and worth the £25 alone...  Really good, make sure you have that and you will not be disapointed..

£25 for a steak in a tarted up Harvester. Fucking hell.

I like it, always tender and tasty.

We used to go for a pre-match pint in the Grove.

Don't think the M&C will be visited as often, but I do love a steak so will be giving it a whirl.

If I paid 25 quid for a steak, here or in Blighty, I'd want it to be fucking amazing.

For that price I can get one of these:

https://m.texasroadhouse.com/menu/legendary-food.aspx?section=steaks&item=porterhouse-t-bone

and have some change

the problem I found is that I had to abandon the sides towards the end to enable me to polish off the steak.  It probably did not help that I had gone for a cup of chilli as the starter.

A fillet in La Carbonara is the best steak I've had in Swindon

That was what I was expecting, hence my disapointment.  I have had expensive steaks all over the place, including the US which you kinda get why they were so expensive..  I didn't get that thought with my steak at M&C..  The Beef Dripping sauce on the other hand..

You would expect if you have the most expensive steak on the menu for it to be pretty special, it wasn't..

Thanks all, I've gone the dependable route of Italian in the end.
