Post by: fittons_coaching_badge on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, 08:06:35
Who on here has recent experience of having been clocked by the speeding police ......

Maybe yesterday on the M4 between 16 an 15, not sure it was a camera gun and I saw him quite early - obviously I wasn't going a bit fast;)

I had a 'friend' past a man wit a gun on the M4 a few weeks ago with the speedo at 93, but surrounded by other cars so ...

So what have you done?

Been clocked doing 46 in a 30.  No excuse was in Hungerford unfamiliar with road that went from 50 to 30 limit and didn't realise.

Think that's above the range for getting away with a course so may have to cough up a fine.

Ouch. Fixed camera or mobile?

Either way, er, good luck.

is it your first offence? if so then likely be offered a driving improvement course, no points on license but will cost you about £70 and a few hours being told speeding is bad.

I got caught 82 on the 417 between Cirencester and Gloucester & my dad got caught doing 42 in a 30

Won't get offered the course - it's outside the parameters (or certainly was for the Berkshire constabulary). I got done for 41 in a 30 and I made the cut by 1mph.

You were just under the new (April 2017) band C catagory which is 51 in a 30, 91 in a 60 and 101 in a 70 limit.

I was pulled at 92 on a motorway a couple of years back and was told they don't offer a driving improvement course unless you are under 25% of the speed limit. I was caught at 32% you were clocked at 54%.

To qualify for speed awareness course (if offered as not all forces offer it) you need to be in Band A (1 to 10mph over the limit is the normal guidance but is at officers discression).

I got a fine of £100 fine and 3 points on the licence.

Fines are calculated at £100 or a percentage of your weekly wage, whichever is higher.

Just spoke to the department and been told it will be £100 fine and 3 points.

Lesson learnt.

Wait and see what the insurance impact of that is!!

My 3 points had no impact on insurance, it goes up if you get to 6 points, but you just have to tell them.

I did the AA "Drive Tech" course recently for getting caught doing 35 in a 30, at the bottom of our road. It cost £80 and 4 hours of my time from 5pm to 9pm, instead of the £100 fine and 3 points.

The course was like a bad 'training day' at work - one presenter was good but the other guy just asked loads of pointless rhetorical questions like, "Do we want to hurt other people when we speed?" and so on.

Yesterday I got a new induction system fitted to my Mini JCW, boosting the hp by about 10%  :D

When I got pinged for similar a while back, I happily paid the fine... in fact I'd have paid extra to avoid the course. Such things fuck with your head

Done two courses...not a complete waste of time but they do slant it.

Give lots of facts and stats but had no answer to the questions I asked:

1: what are the ratio to drivers v accidents on German motorways?

2: Has there been a huge spike in accidents at Camera black spots since Wiltshire turned off their cameras?

Be wary, colleague at work took a speeding course and his insurance company raised his premium. He was not best pleased.

Wouldn't have thought you'd get a course as you're over half the speed limit again. I was clocked at 45 entering a 30 (same scenario going from 50-30) but fortunately it was one of those community speed watch programs so only had a visit from the local PCSO.

With those community programs, they would never go to court or be fineable. Too much of a loop hole with 'gun' configurations etc..

Had something similar from Fairford to Lechlade.. Coming off the roundabout and it's 40 and then drops to 30 shortly after. My own fault, I wasn't paying attention. The police were showing kids interested in policing how the gun works etc. I was caught doing 42 in a 30. Had a stern telling off and letter through the post.
