Title: iPhone repair
Post by: Ginginho on Friday, August 11, 2017, 05:37:30
Is there anywhere in Swindon that someone could recommend to get my iPhone looked at?

It's been dropped in the bath and now won't turn on or charge.

Thanks in advance.

no recommendations. But try to resist turning it on to avoid blowing things up (internals). if you have any of those silicon gel things you get in shoe boxes and Wang it a ziplock bag. ideally the battery needs out asap (hence your question i guess!).

no help but a women at work fixes then, that was her advice last week after a friend dropped hers down the toilet.

My son dropped his in a pond the other day and I have been looking for a way to fix it. I came across this video on You tube and will probably give it a go....

Incidentally, we tried claiming off our house insurance. It wasn't covered but as a commercial gesture they are going to pay half the value of the phone. You might want to try your insurance as you never know.....

also another option is to put it in rice for 2 days, it will dry the phone out (rice is an absorber).

The first thing I did was put it in rice for 24 hours.

Maybe I should've used basmati rather than brown rice.

A wet and dry vacuum cleaner or window vac will be a better idea than rice. It's more than likely died if you tried turning on or charging it.

 :)
Arborio would have done the job.
Not sure rescuing an iPhone would have been worth the white wine & loads of chicken stock though.

done it twice myself so  :smugfu: ... it depends on how much depth the phone was in and the phone, and how long after it was submerged........

the women at work, who repairs iPhones, didn't really rate rice either. Hence the silica gel suggestion.

That would've been my first choice had I had any silica gel to hand.

Oh well, not too fussed, wiffy's just ordered a new phone anyway so will just nick her old one.
If I can get this repaired for around £20 then i'll keep it as a spare.

I used rice a couple of months ago when dropped my Samsung in the bath. Didn't attempt to switch on,charge or do anything.  Just buried it in rice. Works a treat still. Wasn't submerged for long tho so  :hmmm:

I'm not sure that one test proves it's all bullshit, 100g of rice? Whilst I consider myself an empiricist I think you're just looking at a stick to beat verbose Chang with, TBH.

Just one example though of why you should always keep those little silica packs!

Prove those phones that worked after being in rice, wouldn't have worked anyway

I've done the rice thing with a Samsung after dropping it in the River Ray and it sort of came back to life  but wasn't quite right so I bunged it in a draw got another crappy phone, which I broke after about 1 month ,tried the River damaged one again on the off chance and it worked perfectly!
Not sure what this proves..or how it helps 8)

You can buy scented dehumidifier things from B&m for a pound which are basically big tubs of Scilica gel
