Title: Luton away
Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, 22:29:01
Sticking my neck out, but I think there's a fair chance that Swindon & Luton will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

So the game on 9th September is already looking like a 6 pointer.
So can I encourage as many fans as possible to travel to Luton to support the lads please.
(they don't like Oxford any more than we do by the way)

I admit, it's easy for me, as I live in the area, but lets get as many as possible to the "Bedfordshire Bernabau" as the locals like to call it

This will sell out if we're doing well.

Unfortunately I'm moving that weekend so can't make it. Will be one of the best away days of the season.

I disagree - it's a great laugh and you get some good noise out of there too.

I would normally have gone but i'm flying to Turkey so will have to pass.

I went to the League cup game a few years back. I quite enjoyed it. Certainly a unique away experience.

Agree, classic ground, classic away end.  Wish there were more like it.

The ground is in a pretty dodgy area mind you

Ditto !!!!!, Great Game, Great Night, Unforgettable atmosphere, just ruined by some cunt in the crowd with a whistle, Mind you Bamber should have carried on regardless. Seem to remember the Stein brothers were there at the time.

That was major league rammed in the away end. Just as bad/good as the Arsenal 4-3 at the CG.

Please, please, please don't remind me!  >:(

Still haven't forgiven Les Sealey for his reaction - Even though he's dead!

One of the best away ends going.

10 years back they were looking to move to a plastic monodrome pit on the M1.  Now that would be a shit awayday.

Probably a long shot - but is anyone travelling to this from Reading area?

PS - doesn't look like a 6 pointer anymore!

This is looking more like some of pre-Christmas away games last season, where damage limitation was the order of the day.

Undecided about going to this game, Luton is a horrible little ground, we have had a few good wins there over the years my favourite one being in 1980 when Rowland & Williams scored in front of a near full house in the FA cup when they were a good Divi 2 side and us in Div 3.

This is looking more like some of pre-Christmas away games last season, where damage limitation was the order of the day.

Last time we won the first two away games was a promotion season, 2006-07 when the third one was also a win.
Then again, the last failure to win any of the first three home games was 1999-00 which was a relegation season.

Not sure what to make of it all at the moment.
Saturday should be interesting.

I wouldn't think too hard about it all just yet, WB.

5 league games gone and the transfer window just closed. Give it another 5 games when we may have a better idea about the starting 11, formation, fitness and tactics.

A draw Saturday would be massive - a point against a promotion favourite and, more importantly, evidence that Flitcroft can arrest a losing run. I'm not expecting it though!

It would be very Swindon town get something at Luton.

Still think last week was a blip to ask 16 new players to bed them selves in, in 8 weeks is a bit much of an ask. Silly errors will stop in time. To many good players not to challenge.

Do they still have those portakabins on the far side of the pitch?

I remember the game - it was my first season watching the Town and what a season. I had to look it up to jog my memory, but Steve White, Jake Findlay and Dave Moss all played for Luton in that game.

They had a great side back then with future internationals Brian Stein, Mal Donaghy, Tony Grealish, Paul Price and Ricky Hill in the team, David Pleat hadn't been with them long then too. We outplayed them for long periods of the game and Mossy got choruses of Swindon Reject every time he got the ball from the traveling 2,000 or so Town fans there.

Coincidentally all 3 of those signed by Lou Macari.

Had a Mk 3 Cortina at the time.

Glad I checked as didn't realise it was all ticket. Was just going to catch the bus across and pay in. Ticket now going up on the supporters coach as just missed the deadline for them putting it in the post.

I am not normally this pessimistic but I see little at this moment in time to give me optimism.

Luton have scored 11 goals in their last 2 home league games I just hope we can get a clean sheet there, James Collins is a banker to score against us. Lots of ex Town players there in Sheehan, Cuthbert and Mccormack too.

Can see where you are coming from.

Hopefully the nature of the last two performances haven't served to knock the stuffing out of the team at this early stage of the season.

Up to Flitcroft now to show that it's not all about talking a good game.

Absolutely on both those counts.

FWIW I think Flitcroft will come good I worry this fixture at Luton may have come too soon for the squad as a unit.

It would appear so, Ex Town loanee kevin Dearden is GK coach  so thats 6 players/staff with a Town connection there.

4/1 to win. Our last two games aside, that's worth a flutter as our away form has been good.

I do think we are more suited to playing away, or more to the point we struggle against teams that sit deep against us & try and catch us on the break.

We don't have a great deal of creativity in the team, and we don't have a lot of pace at the back. However, we do have pace up front & when we can catch teams on the break we look more dangerous.

That said, I'm not expecting to see us win tomorrow
