Looking at taking the wife to Rick Steins new plaice in Marlborough and was wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere nice near by to stay the night? I know its not exactly far but we'll both have a drink and well, it's romantic init.

Try The Ivy House. Listed building and good parking.

Postern hill campsite.

Good shout. I've been known to put the old tent up in there, do some local walking and go for a few beers in Marlborough.

I threw up inside a tent there once, due to a "few" beers  :)

I hate the place.

Used to drive through there for years to and from work.
Fucking Toy Town.
Any excuse to shut the High Street and fuck up the traffic.
Fucking Victorian Evening and not one but two Mops.
Place needs a flyover not a bypass.

We did exactly that for my wife's birthday.

I booked a room at the Castle and Ball on the high st.

It was good value for money, nice old fashioned place with a decent car park and nice view of the high st. Simple, clean and friendly.

I've always loved Marlborough and the surrounding downs.

Me and my mates used to drive out to the Green Dragon in the 80s/ 90s as it was fairly lively back then, and always full of good looking posh girls

Steins was great too!
Have a lovely time

As Gordon Ramsay said when asked who cooks the food when he's not there...

"the same people who cook it when I am there."

Excellent. Her 50th birthday. I was hoping to go somewhere abroad but she said no. Still we like Mr. Stein and his cooking progs, love fish too. So should be ok. Just need to find somewhere to stay in January.
