Interesting, very interesting.. Maybe.

First thoughts if it come true: FFS, we are sticking with youth model, another unproven academy manager.

After 10 minutes:Lets suck it and see.

To be honest Viveash isn't really a player I ever much liked, hence no excitement at the prospect.

In July 2011 Viveash became Under-18 team manager at Chelsea having previously served as assistant Academy and assistant reserve team coach.[16] In June 2014, following Dermot Drummy's promotion to international head coach, Adi Viveash took charge of the club's Under-21 squad for the 2014/15 season.[17]

Viveash and Drummy?

If we are sticking with the model, then Viveash is as likely to be decent as anyone. Only time will tell, but at least he knows what the club is capable of.

I doubt he'd leave Chelsea at his time of life, to be a number 2. Must want a crack at management.

Yeah I agree he's got a good academy grounding and has as much chance as anyone at making it work.

I think its getting more obvious to me that ex-academy football player development isn't for me long term.

Of course I'll completely change my mind if the style of play changes and we become successful...He may even change things so we bring in proper div 4 players to support the ex-academy dross.

I'm listing pros and cons based on observations of what Town fans want.

Adi Viveash

Pros
- Swindon boy
- Educated under Macari, Ardiles and Hoddle
- Tonnes of Football League experience
- Plenty of contacts

Cons
- Not a Town 'hero'
- Some won't know that he played for Swindon
- Played for OXFORD - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- Encourages the continuation of the current 'philosophy'
- It's Adi Viveash

Imagine if his (potential) first game in charge was as bad as the poor guys debut?

Post by: Costanza on Saturday, May 6, 2017, 11:19:11
I don't think Feruz was getting many games in Chelsea's development side.

I wouldn't be wholly against Adi Viveash as long he has adequate support staff.

However my gut feeling, based on virtually nothing, is that such an appointment reeks of a mid-table finish.

Don't think he ever played under Macari? He wasn't the best as a player, but that doesn't mean anything when it comes to managing/coaching.

He could be great, or shite, or mediocre. No one knows until, or unless, he arrives.

(I think we should all save time by saying he'll be shit before he even gets the job).

Title: Re: Adi Viveash

Ossie gave him his debut but Viveash turned pro under Macari so I imagine there would have been training.

imho he needs to come in as an assistant, even if temporarily so he can learn the ropes of league football as going from chelsea under 18 & 21's to league football is a big step up.

He wasn't good enough during the Ardiles and Hoddle era to cement a place and by the time Andy King resigned him, he was done.

My fondest memory of Viveash at Swindon was him standing with the Town fans in the play-off game at the Withdean.

It's about the only good memory of that night too.

If it is him hopefully he remembers what it took Macari to get out of the fourth division, a team that was first of all fit, and (certainly from the outside looking in) a squad that was united.

Not a Town hero is putting it politely.

Can't say I have much opinion on this. If we were the appoint him the proof of the pudding would be in the eating.

Does he think the 'development' philosophy and style will work in L2, if he does we are buggered before we start.

If he wants to (...is allowed to?) have in part the 'development' philosphy mixed in with some, want of a better term 'traditional lower league' philosophy we could be onto a winner.

I remember when Town trained amongst the dog shit on the CG Extension... Adi had a broken leg, and was a sort of wandering about with the other lads, trying at least to be involved, poor sod had this compression pump clamped on his leg.

I thought, he'll never play again, but he did... which says something about his character.

All I really remember about Adi's Swindon career was his debut against Middlesborough a few days before his 21st birthday.

Coming on and playing left wing/midfield a role totally unsuited to him, and being a sub that was subbed after just 20 mins in a poor 3-1 home defeat.

The amount of people that complain because he has no experience, but then get all defensive when someone points out that neither did Macari, Ardilles, Hoddle & Di Canio when they took the job.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and Division 4 is as good a place as any.

He might be shit, or he might be really good & fuck off somewhere bigger in a season or two (hopefully after getting us promoted).

The point is all the doom mongers saying its going to be shit really have no idea.
It's just as pointless as suggesting he is the second coming of the Messiah & we will be Champions League winners in 6 years

I agree with that. Also people are pointing out he wasn't a great player . Good players don't always make good managers, average players can make good managers.

But the inference that appointing an academy coach meaning that we carry on with a youth team isn't so silly and is concerning IMO. Really don't want to become Chelsea B by proxy, but moreover I can't see it leading to success in the long term.

That's not to say that's what will happen. We don't know anything. But in the absence of any concrete information it seems the most likely.

We never saw the best years of Viveash's career. Early on he was always back up for the likes of Calderwood and Shaun Taylor or filling in at left back. I can remember he came back from a loan spell at Walsall and looked OK but was bombed out by McMahon around 95. A year later McMahon let Shaun Taylor go and signed a succession of rubbish centre halves meanwhile Viveash established himself in as a decent player at Reading. By the time he came back under Kingy his legs had gone a bit and his lack of pace especially alongside Reeves got exposed.

Would be unlike Power to 'get business done early'.

The irony is that if he was appointed people would moan and said people will also moan if he goes somewhere else as I bet we'd get the 'can't even avoid Viveash' line.

And they'd moan that we couldn't get Viveash without even knowing whether he was a target at all.

He's a hero at the Bescot. I'm not sure he'll be given much chance here next season.

Wouldn't describe him quite as a hero there but they do like him, he had 6 solid seasons with them.

There are no rumours that they are about to sack Jon Whitney though but they had a poor season so its not beyond the realms of possibility.

FH has it spot on though.

Viveash to Walsall is more-or-less the equivalent of Shaun Taylor managing Swindon.

A lot of people would have convinced themselves that Viveash was coming to Swindon as it's very similar to the appointments of Ling and Williams. What a moderately interesting coincidence that would be if he went elsewhere.

He seems to have ruled himself out. unless he's gone Chang.

As things stand, I doubt there's a queue of decent candidates for the job....

I think in an ideal world we'd like to see a quick appointment of a credible Div 4 gaffer, who could then get on with preparations for 17/18 season. We don't live in an ideal world.

Don't Walsall already have a manager ?  Might be a nonentity but is Jon Whitney not still in charge?
