Title: Serious Concerns...
Post by: GL5 Red on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 07:14:54
We are heading one way with Power. I for one will be very vociferous in letting Power know exactly what I think of the dross we have had to endure. I saw this coming at the start of the season but this isn't a 'told you so', it's about serious concern in the direction we are going under Power. What a dreadful season, 4 local darby defeats to add insult to injury. If we do go down Saturday then make Power knows we, loyal fans who will be here long after he has fucked off are angry and don't want him here.

More concerning that it took so long for the penny to finally drop. I would obviously rather we were not in this position because I go week in week out and have supported the club for years, but it was fairly obvious to most what Power would do, well most apart from the vast majority with input on here.

So the big result this season is that the pessimists beat the optimists. Well done. Have a peanut.

I just struggle with how so many here could not see what was going to happen. Look at Power and his previous business interests, the way in which he conducts himself, so many variables but when anyone questions him on here particularly earlier in the season shot down in flames by most on here, but it's ok as we debt free. Be debt free playing Chippenham town soon.

I cannot recall reading a single post on here where someone has blindly refuted all criticism of Power nor a single post where anyone said we'd be challenging for promotion this season.

Well sonic I can recall many posters saying we had a competitive a quad and they trusted power and saw no reason why we couldn't challenge are the right end. Don't ask me to start finding those posts as I cannot be assed.  There are a few on here who must feel simple having backed power and believed his bullshit.

It's horrible when the people whom predict doom turn out to be right, especially when the bastards are talking about something you love so much.

I hated telling Poxy Ray in Marseilles in June that we would struggle this season.... I take no pleasure that it's all come true and the bastard reminds me about it every fucking week...

GL5

Power has done me a favour........

He has cured me of my desire to support a football team that I have loved and have missed with a passion.

With his inability to share the passion that I have held since my first visit to the County ground in 1963.

Thank you Lee, I no longer wake in the middle of the night to listen to the results or the second rate commentaries.

I argued with you a bit GL5. Your problem was that if someone didn't think the apocalypse was coming, you assumed they were a Power lover. I said to you many times I wasn't particularly happy with how the model works, but I'm pleased we are operating sustainably(ish) and I genuinely believed we had a squad strong enough to survive up until January when I accepted we were heading down.

I'm sure there will be a nice vocal group letting their displeasure known on Saturday you can join in with and indulge your schadenfreude

I have no idea what next season will bring, neither does anyone else. We can only speculate. As I've said in another thread, for me, Williams has to either be sacked or demoted. If we continue down the road we're going we'll be in L2 for a while. I'm not in the Reg school of thinking we'll be relegation fodder next season too... yet.

Well you should get into that mindset early doors, that way if we have another car crash of a season next season, you can start a thread boasting about how prescient you were and how everyone else is really fucking stupid for not listening to you.

Of course, but my speculation is based on Crewe. Of the 4 who went down last year they're the ones who've flirted with the drop. They should just about be OK for next season.

Let's consider the Crewe model.... they still play ground based football with a team of kids most of whom have come through their academy augmented by a few loans. The boss Artell an ex player, but also ex youth team coach with no experience beyond that.

Crewe look to develop players and sell them on.... they've accumulated £32 mill in recent years, much of which has gone back into their Cat 2 academy which costs £700K a year to run.  Further sums have gone into the upkeep and maintainance of Gresty Road, so they run sustainably.

It's entirely conceivable that they have been fucked over by the Prem clubs over acquisition, the bar being moved so high that whereas a promising lad might have opted for Crewe as a step forward, now a failed career at say Man City, can provide you with a tidy sum by the time you're 20. Crewe haven't sold a player for a sizeable fee 4 years.

I'm sure the paedo scandal hasn't helped them, but the process was in action before these revelations. The concern to us is that Crewe are way ahead of STFC in terms of the model.

We've a cat 3 academy, so are only ever going to produce the odd player, hence the reliance on loans and non league.

Crewe also don't buy experience, because of the cost. However, they're now losing a mill a season, because no players to sell.

Clearly Power will be trimming the budget right back in the summer, and hoping that Luke and Embers can polish a turd for him.

As much as we all lambaste Mr Sherwood on here. I am hoping that he is not at the games etc and working on tying up new players for next season, permanent signings made early so that we are organised before the start of the season.

As much as we all lambaste Mr Sherwood on here. I am hoping that he is not at the games etc and working on tying up new players for next season, permanent signings made early so that we are organised before the start of the season.

Its not too much to ask is it?

That's what Power and Williams have said, he came in initially to work with Luke and give him an experienced head to bounce ideas off, once they thought Luke had got what he wanted Sherwood then fell into the backdrop and is working on the Director of Football role which is lining up players.

I am optimistic that we will have things done early this year as last year it was Power pulling all the cords and it didn't happen, this time he has Sherwood to do all the work while he concentrates on other things (away from stfc). Power has taken a massive back seat in regards to what goes on at the club and lets the staff he has chosen (rightly or wrongly) do their jobs with minimal interference (hence his lack of visibility at games recently).

Waterford seems to be doing really well from the same things he has done here, he obviously learnt from the initial mistakes and got a proper team setup there and let them do all the recruitment.

The way I see it is that STFC was a massive learning curve for him for his model, he has made some right royal cockups but he has been willing (a little) to admit to them and delegate tasks to other people rather than running it all himself. We are all human and make mistakes but unfortunately the mistakes he has made here has put us in the position where we are.

If he is to continue running the club then there needs to be some fundamental changes in the way things are done and one of them is to demote Williams back to just the training ground coach and get a proper manager in who knows what the fuck they are doing come match day as Luke is like a deer in headlights, his team selection, tactics and subs confuse me. There then needs to be a change in the ethos, I am fine with signing kids like Conroy and Starkey but we need 2/3 experienced pro's in there like Ince who can dictate the game.

We got to the playoffs in 2014 with a similar aged squad as now so there has been no fundamental change in philosophy but just the recruits brought in just haven't been upto par, hopefully Power has realised that and is willing to make changes sooner rather than later.

p.s. just realised how long this has got........

Probably won't be anything to do clap for.   Burys result last night surely means if we don't win Saturday we are down, still I suppose looking at the bright side (if there is one) it will save us the early Sunday morning drag around the M25 to Charlton.

Reg - what are you defining as recent years? I only ask as at £700k a year that £32m would have run the Academy for 45 years and I cannot see where they are spending money on Gresty Road as its essentially a 1990's ground in decent nick.

Not sure who owns the club (or ground in fact) but did note that Gradi was one of the best paid lower league managers as he got a cut of the money earned from selling players on (just imagine how popular that would be here?)

Not exactly, we could still in theory win just one of our last 2 games and if Bury and Port Vale both lose their remaining games we could still stay up, even if we lose on Saturday it could still go down to the last game if they both lose too.

Although I have no confidence in us going to the Valley and getting a result.

I'm hoping that if its coming, it comes on Saturday. Then I don't have to spend £££ to watch us fuck up at the valley, and thus karma restoring order after the deliriously happy time after the PO semi.

I say 'have to', might just stay in bed until 5 and turn on Final Score.

I don't think it was waiting for the penny to drop, but to think positive and give Power the benefit of the doubt.

Yes, Power has sorted the finances out in the background (allegedly) and yes Power said the right noises in Oct/Nov, but he failed to get the old heads to steady the ship. That said Ajosey and Ince were great acquisitions, so give him credit for that.

For Powers model to work, he needs to invest in better loanees or buy better (a few old head)

So power has to do something that has been fucking obvious for the last 2 years. And next season do it fucking g early instead of saying do it early. I really do fear for the club if he leaves it late again and we're playing catch up in October signing the same type of player.

Title: Re: Serious Concerns...
Post by: Batch on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 13:16:41
I think its fair to say most of us have concerns over "the model" to say the least.
I think if we continue down the road we are on its a matter of time before it bites us even harder than now.
A lot don't subscribe to this, thinking we will at least be stable in division 4.

I doubt anybody is happy with any of that.
---
The issue would be more clearcut if it was proven Power was lying about stabalising the club financially, or at least converting investment into unfair and overpriced loans.

But there is nothing to support this. No evidence whatsoever that's convinced me yet.

Personally not that happy about a club that has (IMO) no chance of promotion, a chairman who is a bit of a twat with a massive communication issue and sunday league management structure.

But you aren't going to get a united fanbase until something more substantial threatens it.

So what exactly do you want and expect of the fanbase GL5?

I guess the the last 25, is my definition of recent. Crewe like Town have been around a long time. Joined Div 2 of the FL in 1892, with is 125 years.

Gradi did indeed get a cut of transfer fees, but this is common practice for various people to get finders fees.

Crewe's chairman Bowler has been there years, a devout Christian, he's of the Rev Pitt school, namely football is a vehicle for social good amongst the impoverished working classes.

GL5 with a new attention seaking thread!  :smugfu:

Any different to your previous thread?

Quote
The season coming to a close and we look doomed. Recall posting a few times on here stating players such as Rodgers and Barry were poor and Power buying cheap rubbish would land us in trouble.  Several posters shot me down. Question, are these Pro Power backers still around? Still confident Power is taking us forward? So far he has successfully alienated the fans, signed a squad as poor as I can remember and made it a chore to attend matches. Season ticket  renewals are going to be interesting.  I will continue to go to support the team but will be calling for Power to leave at every juncture. Hopefully he loses money and realises he isn't wanted and finally fucks off. Roll on when this happens.  #POWEROUT

That will be a no.

"Im a season ticket holder, blah blah, i told you all power was a twat, blah blah."

Maybe this time (in case your packing you next pack lunch for saturdays game) you could reply to my previous question to you.

Quote
The point I'm actually getting to is what do you actually want? And realistically are you going to get it? Is it sustainable? Because for a fan has apparently been around 30 years this isn't the worse you have seen and this isn't the worst chairman you have seen.

Packing my lunch box for Saturday, joke wasted on you. What do I want? Perhaps an owner who is a little more transparent and has a little more business acumen.  Successful businessman he certainly isn't.  Someone who will provide us with some players that can play football as opposed to the dross we currently have, that really too much to ask for?
