Title: Bradford City Vs Swindon Town Matchday thread
Post by: RJack on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 07:00:45
Bottom line they are good at the moment and we're not.

Their pitch won't suit our style of play and I can only see a lot of huffing and puffing from us again with no end result.

Fuck knows whose gonna line up for us today - depends on whose in Williams good books. If it's the same team as Tuesday we will get turned over.

Prediction if Tuesday's team: 3:2 loss

Bring back Vigs drop Branco 2:2 draw

I'm hoping Williams went on the piss last night and is dropped.

A useless draw methinks.

Ajose with a lucky penalty area richochet. After which we will concede 0.5 nano seconds after the restart, resorting in the rearing of the head of the ugly beast that is our infamous fragile mentality.

4-1.

Bradford haven't lost at home all season, it's rare to go an entire season undefeated, so this could be one of those freak games, like Charlton some years ago.  Make fuck all differnce mind, we're down

Pre match commitment to the cause in The Turls Green.

If not selected, hope that the fun boy three make the effort and turn up to support their team mates.

Surprise victory today, two bullet headers from Obika.
They go a man down after Branco is on the receiving end of a body shot.
This time the writhing on the ground will be genuine.

Hope Nicky Law plays for them today.
Good to watch and massive class above what we have in midfield.

Tempted to squeeze a curry in before the game.

- Gives us better chance of winning
- Sends a message that some are more equal than others

i just looking at it as sparing Henry rather than that. a couple of dodgy performances in a row and Henry could really be against it from some of the fans.

he's 18, it's a lot to ask of him to be ready for that kind of pressure.

it's far worse than that, this team would make Trevor Benjamin look dangerous..

in any case we'll tire Bradford out by giving them 107 shots then Chesterfield them..

True, but another way of looking at it is that the pressure will build upon Henry as he was dropped after his last game due to a howler.

I guess its all about man management and spin.

Williams on Hylton & Kasim:
- Norris strong and committed every day in training
- Obika & Ajose work well together and are proven
- Difficult for Hylton. Needs to work everyday and prove to staff he wants opportunity if an injury happens
- Kasim has been ill for a while and is not fit
- We cant carry passengers and need everyone to be ready to play

Williams:
- Effort was there but the know-how is not
- We just needed to make the last 15 mins a non event. In reality, we only needed the ball in play for 7 of those 15 mins.
- Its an experience thing. Its no good us hoping the player will learn from it.
- If we managed it correctly there would be no energy in the game but we just handed it over
- Sitting down and showing them one calamity after the other is probably not the best thing to do
- Took Dabo off before he got sent off. Moved Thompson into the middle to stop him getting sent off too
- Thought 5 across the back would be more solid and we could play on the break
- Game plan upto 1-0 was perfect. But then too tough for the players to hold on
- Would rather keep the details of what was discussed in the changing room
- Today we gave up too much of the ball to a good side
- Doesn't want the season to finish tomorrow or we'd be relegated. Would like to extended it until we are safe
- Wants the emotion of disappointment to be over
- Played against 2 of the very best teams. We could have come away from those two games with 4 points if it wasnt for ridiculous errors
- Everyone has to prove that they are totally on board. Would have been wrong to put Henry in in another difficult game. Thats why Vigs came in. Brophy travelled as 19th man
- Players have been fined. They can appeal. All of the players are going to accept the fine
- Team are motivated to fight and put bodies on line for last 7 games

Too late for all this dropping and fining shit...

Extend the season? Wouldn't stay up with another twelve games..

I would fucking end it now if I could...save on wages as we dump 3/4 squad.....Williams and Embolism.

I do agree Ells but to be 1-0 up with 15 minutes to play and not leave with at least a point is frankly shambolic.

But only for a team who have something about them when we plainly don't.

This season effectively ended weeks ago, when it became painfully obvious the squad and management was well short of the required standard.... certainly once the needed changes didn't happen in the window.

Not long to go now before the official season's end... personally I've started the process of mentally binning it off, but will keep an eye on the make up of Div 4 next season...as we'll be actively looking for 2 bigger basket cases than us.

That's when the experienced heads take leadership, shut up shop, spoiler tactics, time wasting, slow the game down - hang on.

The time for a bit of experience was Jan.  Tactics Tim even said it was needed. We got an array of kids and a couple of old boys... tbf there were some on here who were quite pleased with trading, although it was obvious, we'd actually weakened, losing Furlong and Doughty, shipping out a couple of bodies Delf and Murray and having 7 loans when only 5 can play.

I'm sure Power no more thinks we're on track to the Conference, than he thought we'd go to Div 4.

As is usual Reg appears to be overly pessimistic. We're not in a good place that's true but then that has been par for the course since most of the time I've supported Town since the late '80s. It's about trying to reach an answer to the question which is lurking in the back of my mind... viz has this season been some kind of plot by Power to get us down, or just plain being clueless?

Either answer is frightening, but I consider the answer to be found in the window. Power obviously thought he'd done enough in the window, a view supported by several fans on here. I guess you were in that camp, so it suggests being clueless as his efforts were at least credible to some.

If we are to deduce the fella is clueless, then what's to suggest he'll suddenly change  :hmmm:

Regardless of what's happening to call people clueless because they apparently couldn't see what you could see is arrogance, that's the point I was making.

For the record I had no opinion of what happened in January, I certainly didn't get excited about the possibility of a major turnaround.  Losing doughty was a blow, gaining Ajose a plus. The rest a wait and see.

I've called no-one outside of the management clueless. The point is that the fact that some were happy with the window,  suggests it was at least some sort of credible effort, meaning that Power did at least try a sticking plaster.

Score line flattered them, we should have been 3 or 4 up before they scored. But when they do take the lead, the players should be putting their bodies on the line to hold onto it. when a bunch of kids get used to losing they need experience, either other players or management, to help them out and give direction. . We have neither and the result is that we appear not to give a toss at times, rather I suspect we are just completely rudderless. I thought that was what sherwood was there for, but that mystery is a long way off being solved.

They can all fuck off.  The supporters who made the effort to travel deserve much more.  And the worst performing manager in the league will still have a job in the morning.

“The effort was there but unfortunately the know-how is not,” said Williams. And to be fair the radio comms kind of said the effort was there, just not the ability.

So have we fallen so much that we can't even spot 100% effort now. I guess a lot of us were moaning about lack of fitness for quite a while, so maybe it that..
-------------------
@woooly : Also I only half listened to the interview so I assumed that quote was a twitter parody (Tans or fake Lee Power):

The guy and this group of players are beyond contempt at the moment. I was planning to go to a couple of home games in April but I really can't be bothered going anywhere near the place at the moment.

Rushing down the stairs yesterday to get some beers poured before the rugby started I slipped and fell down half a flight of stairs using my spine as an impromptu sledge.

Spent next four hours experiencing the joy that is Reading A&E.

I've subsequently calculated that the Bradford winner went in whilst I was hitting the third rung from the bottom.

At least I missed the rugby.

Ouch. I once did a full flight with a tray of hot tea. Post coital cuppa, ended up at PMH with scalding. Fortunately the facial blisters recovered, and the only scarring was to the arm. A lesson learned, how to go from cool to fool  :)

Any town fans there care to comment (Wobbly?)

I went yesterday, first time since August, house move followed by apathy as the autumn and winter months took hold keeping me away. Anyhow, this was on my doorstep so no excuses. Really expected nothing more than a drubbing. At times the defending was desperate and we did well to keep it to 0-0 for so long.

Of the new players that I hadn't seen before, Ince stood out for me, covered loads of ground but can't be expected to do it all alone. Of the ones I recognised, Gladwin - enigma, at times looks like a poor man's Waddle but totally not cut out for a battle as part of a struggling team, also got needlessly booked for backchat to the ref after somebody else's foul. Obika - poor for the first 70 but got better. Ajose - looked like he gave a shit, eg had a right go at Norris for a poor touch when he could have put Nicky clean through to add to a very well taken goal. Barry and Norris, coming on as subs, misplaced passes etc.

Personally I don't think it was lack of effort, somehow we had contrived to get to 1 up with 5 mins to go against a team that hasn't lost at home all season. Once we went 1 up, the home crowd got behind their team in a massive way, willed them forward, we just seemed to shit ourselves and we caved in.

Beyond a concern that I can't see where the catalyst is coming from for a relative improvement in performance in league 2 next season, not going to comment on the wider issues as I'm simply not close enough. Seen in the context of a single match, though, I've seen us play far worse away from home than that.

Thanks WYR. So battling, with effort but not the ability/experience then.

I guess in September I'd have been encouraged by that..hey ho...

This type of negativity really irks me.
Super coach on the cheap, players on the cheap and after Powers profit you have a club with no financial problems.
To infer that the team is shit cannot help in their confidence. Please think twice before sharing your doom and gloom on this site.

From this I can infer that you don't know the difference between infer and imply. HTH.

Just seen Williams comments

What the hell?

I just saw this on facebook.  Some of the things he said in the interview after are totally bizarre. It honestly sounds like he's losing the plot a bit.

Is Power completely oblivious to what's going on? Does he even care.  I honestly think not.

Any town fans there care to comment (Wobbly?)

"“Instead, we play stupid and naïve and in the end it’s too big for us. The players are desperate to concede to not have to live with the fact that they came away and won at Bradford so it’s easier to say we got beat.”"

He actually said it? I mean I get he's on the spot and under pressure when being interviewed. But what the fuck point is he trying to make here?
Can only assume its Williams speak for "bottled it" but ???

Saw it pretty much the same as WestYorksRed.

The effort was there although maybe some of the recent performances have been better.
I wouldn't equate an inability to see out a 1-0 for the final 15 minutes with being gutless and not trying.
Just a lack of game management know how, which is what we've seen all season from a group that does have individual talent, but when put together are not effective enough as a team.

The team, the manager and the whole club at the moment is a joke.  I thought we had a glimmer after the recent wins but Chesterfield and Port Vale did for me.......we are slipping into Division 4 and I don't see any quick return.  What makes it worse is that those t*ssers from the other end of the A420 are having their best season for ages and are going to Wembley soon/have a Chairman who invests in their club.  Could be a long time before we play them again.

Against my better judgement I went to the game yesterday.

Bradford weren't significantly better than us.  That's what annoys me the most about this season - this league is not very good.

It was the usual thing though, our players as a team aren't mentally strong.  I would bet that if we replaced Branco with an experienced CB who could marshal and lead the defence, we wouldn't have conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Just seen the highlights on FB and to be fair to that Bradford fan was right, they could have had 3 or 4 before we scored.
Well taken goal for Ajose but both of theirs could have been avoided, ok the equaliser was a bullet header ...

Spent yesterday out in the wilds and the night in the woods.  Infinitely better than going/listening to town.

Just been watching a video of Arsenal fans who are claiming that their players no longer want to play for Wenger, perhaps the same could be said for our players and Williams!

Yes, but sleeping member.

I could get motivated by a repeat of the mid 00's orange style putsch, but dislike the everyday bureaucracy inevitably needed to keep such an organisation going. Respect the people who are prepared to do it though.
So I'd be right in saying that you term yourself as part of the fan base that doesn't have the fight to help secure the future of the club then???

As I said, I've no longer the motivation to get involved in the minutae and detail of the basic running of any organisation. But would be up for a bit of direct action.

Up until the time of Fitton/Black I considered that my shareholding was a means of helping to secure the future of the club, and the AGM as means of involvement. However that route of engagement has been severed....not it should be noted by Power but the lack of accountabilty suits him.

It's a variation on the "unable to cope with the reality of going ahead" nonsense we had a few weeks back. Basically he's saying that the team are mentally weak. Given that their "leader" increasingly sounds like Col Kurtz in his interviews, that's hardly surprising.

Not mentally strong is an understatement. They are so poorly disciplined and so unfit it's actually mind boggling. You have to put that down to coaching. There are serious problems and have been for a long time... But what can you do when the Power(s) that be refuse to address a glaringly obvious issue?

Yeah, but the OP on this thread seems to contradict.

As the cliche goes, one week is a long time in football.

Let alone six months.

Think the cliche applies to politics.... namely a week is a long time in politics, H Wilson.  Theresa May is finding that out right now.

At least Kurtz had a Willard.
