Well what a disappointment that was.  Better team by a long way for the first 30 mins and should have gone in at least two goals ahead, second half sat back and fucked around with the ball, midfield absolutely useless, gave possession away far too easily and we were well beaten in the end, no complaints about the result.  Why the fuck wasn't the system changed after an hour when it was obvious we were being overrun in midfield, Goddard should have been on for Kasim who was at his useless best soon into the second half.  The management can take the blame for that defeat.

I couldn't believe Ince wasn't in the squad. But fr the first 30 minutes we were actually quite good.

Then the sack of shit that is the midfield fell apart. It literally stopped. Kassim was absolutely hopeless. Gladwin couldn't tackle to save his fucking life, and god knows what the fuck Colkett offers. We survived until half time. Could have actually gone 2-0 up had colkett not gone onto his wrong foot and fired straight at the keeper.

The second half carried on where the first left off. Dogshit midfield. Crap defending on their first too. Could have had a foul before their second but we were clearly given the advantage. We lost the ball well before the goal. We didn't block the shot. After that everyone knew it was it.

The defeat (7 in a row?) is sickening, but the thought of more and more seasons of this bollocks is far far worse.

Even if we have to suffer Power's powder puff creche, the fraud managers Sherwood, Williams and Embleton can fuck right off.

From the stands we could see that the midfield was losing the battle after about 35 minutes of the first half. Kasim was unable to come out of any challenge with the ball, and when there wasn't a challenge he gave it away anyway. Colkett and Gladwin looked lost. Why did it take the coach/manager/golden egg laying goose so long to see the same thing and try and affect a change?

Also, whoever took the decision that Ince would be the player to miss out today is a bellend of the highest order. From the post match I'm assuming it was Williams, as Sherwood not in attendance.  'Hmm, a local derby where a bit of physicality and experience in the middle of the field would be really valuable. Nah, can't put Ince in, he's just not lightweight and tippy tappy enough.'.

This game summed up precisely why we are going down.
Colkett, Gladwin and Kasim were total fucking toss. Goddard came on and got knocked off the ball a few times. The wing backs / full backs got taken to the cleaners for the 2nd game in a row. Gladwin was lucky not to get red for his stamp in the 2nd half.

Quite simple we had too many players in the middle that wanted to much time on the ball and could not tackle. Our midfield is a massive problem for us. There is a lot of critisim of Williams but he is the front guy. It's powers fault with recruitment. Sold our best players and never replaced them only applied a sticky plaster with a loan. Powers has gave Williams a sausage dog and asked him to get it to win a at the abbey stadium. Williams ain't Jesus he ain't gonna perform a miracle.

All the basics have been covered in this thread; no fight, no commitment, not fit, lightweight, wrong team selection, managerial ineptitude from top to bottom. All in all we are in deep, deep trouble and it certainly requires management and players to take a long hard look at their professionalism.

It's sad to see that sides like Shrewsbury and Oldham have made changes and are reaping the benefits. Their new managers have come up in, made them tough to beat and they are reaping the rewards.

On paper this squad looks good, but in a relegation battle? I'm not so sure.

There can be no doubt that Sherwood, Williams and Embleton should leave. There can be many doubts as to who Power would bring in as replacements.

Thought we'd be in for a long second half the way we finished the first, and then seeing Oxford doing training drills and looking up for it before the second while we jogged out and casually got into position confirmed it.

I can only conclude the reason the players all love Williams is because training is a piece of piss and they know they don't have to do too much. For a great coach we don't half make the same mistakes a lot.

Or was it just that we had some players that were High end league 1/Championship players anyway in the first couple of seasons? Mason, Luongo, Fods, Byre, Pritchard, Louis and even an interested Kasim. He's failed to turn anyone into anything remotely saleable since so maybe just maybe he's not that great a coach either.

Saw the team and guessed that Ince wasn't fit.

We fought well in the first half and seemed to want it more than them. Very pleased.

Cracking goal...touch and shoot...sadly lacking in previous games as it would of been touch, pass and pass again. Turned the corner?! No such fucking luck.

Second half started badly and faded. Why is it, when you can see from Arkells, DRS,TE and space, you can see we are fucked in midfield but the jokes on the bench cannot?!

The worrying aspect of that is he sees Colkett, Gladwin and Kasim as key to what they are trying to do.

What pissed me off most of all today was the total predictability of the second half. The last 10 of the first shouted we needed an extra body in midfield and we needed to fill the gaps behind the wing backs, ie 442 or 451. Why the fuck couldn't Williams see it? The only way we would get away with it was if we started the second half on the front foot. Let's think, ugh, which team would start the second half 'on fire', yep, not us.

Fucking hate the way we send out all the wrong signals when we are winning. Vigs wasting time, slow to take throw-ins and free kicks, always looking to play sideways or backwards. Totally gives the impression we are hanging on rather than wanting to go for the kill.

Regarding Ince, on the way to the ground, BBC Wilts said he wasn't in the squad because he wasn't match fit. However, Williams' comments after the game suggested it was down to the number of loanees. Bizarre.

For those criticising Sherwood for not being there, there could have been a genuine reason. If not, he shouldn't be anything to do with the club.

Dave Hockaday was spot on after the game. First 30 v good. The rest - men against boys, lost battles, not physically fit, not mentally fit, Town players looked like they are still learning, Pox players looked like they knew. He's too nice to say directly that Williams hasn't got it.

Ed came accross as a total twat to me, so much so that any valid point he may have had was quickly ignored by me - let alone Power. Deliberately aggressive and scripted in his delivery instantly getting Power/Hodgetts back up even before he asked any valid question. He may have had some good points but certainly not all and he didn't speak for me let alone the vast majority of Town fans as he self proclaimed that he did.

Macari would have never have settled for a side being this unfit pre season let alone in February.

These boys need a man or at least a father figure to get them fit, take them off to the assault course/army camp for a week treat them like kids watch them grow up or quit, they are mollycoddled youngsters treated in an over protective way at times by the management, theres a time for that and now isn't it.

But I was commenting on the rest of this season really. Fact is we are above the relagation zone still. And while it feels like a lost cause, mathematically it is anything but.

But we are 29 points from 30 games. We are 6/30 points in the last 10. Its clear things need shaking up,. If he's going to persist with the bollocks approach he's taken then we are fucked this season.

First 30 good. From that point the players were shit and the fans were fucking abysmal too. Thoroughly fucked off with it all.

Constant fucking moaning, whinging, ironic cheers, booing own players, Power Out bollocks... from the second they scored their second (which was a screamer tbf) there wasn't one ounce of support or atmosphere.

We should be trying to raise them. But in all honest I sat there in silence. It was the inevitability of it all.

The writing was on the wall when the midfield trio of Kasim, Colkett and Gladwin were announced. Today was a day for Ince and Smith to compete and win second balls and let Gladwin create chances for Ajose. Kasim produced the kind of display that reminded of the time he was deemed not good enough for Macclesfield. He has not been the same player without Louis Thompson to do his running. Colkett simply not up to what was required today. Williams announcement after the game that he had decided not to select Ince on merit was absolutely baffling. Though not as baffling as to how he is still employed by the club.

Brophy was a threat. Norris and Ajose had a good first 30 minutes before being isolated. Great strike from Dabo. Best I've seen the centre halves defend 1v1 in a long time. But they simply had no chance with our midfield trio not having the faintest idea how to combat Oxford. The subs bench was similarly useless being packed full of our identikit lightweight players, none of whom were capable of offering anything different to change the momentum.

I thought Oxford were impressive. Started slowly but very powerful with players who have technical ability. The fullbacks constantly created 2v1 overloads and after 30 minutes it felt a matter of time till they would score. Would not be surprised to see them end up in the playoffs.

That Colkett chance before half-time will haunt us. All in all though, simply cannot see Williams & Embleton keeping us in League One.

While what you say is true regarding the advantage, he did briefly have the ball before arsing it up. Should have been a free kick but we still had opportunity to deal with it.

Oxford's plan was quite simple and did the job, they knew we could be broken down. They went down every time after Dabo's goal to break up the play as Town were kicking on well after the goal. WE DID LOOK GOOD ON THE COUNTER AT TIMES (in the first 45) - poor decision making saved them. Dunkley didn't look at all comfortable but we didn't exploit it.

They also targeted the booked players knowing that Norris could easily find himself in bother and Gladwin is prone to stick his foot out thus essentially killing off some of their, erm, intensity.

Maguire was their weakest link before Appleton moved him, far too interested in becoming a cult hero for their fans than successfully participating in the sides win. Buy hey, it worked for him... and them.

- Ajose should've scored early on.

- Colkett absolutely should've made it 2-0 in first half injury time (but we still would have thrown in away based on that second half showing). Colkett perhaps isn't the sort of player you need at times of crisis.

- Vigouroux can't cope with fans giving him what for. One of the reasons he's a divvy three footballer.

- Kasim's performance makes me sad, he's a great footballer but his heart isn't in it at Swindon. With that goes his performances and there's the reason the demand for him has seemingly disappeared.

- Conor Thomas was dreadful upon his arrival.

- Branco wasn't terrible but the ease in which they got past him for the equaliser was dreadful and that wasn't the first time they did that during the game.

Just another view of today's game. Don't know if anyone else noticed but powers today seemed a lot more animated. Occasionally I found myself looking over him from the drs and quite often he was waving his hand around or holding his head. I think he felt that game too. Can't wait for next game. There's nothing in our position that say 4 wins in a row couldn't put right....but I just can't see it happening. I suppose Ince might offer something, and if Obika could get fit and get back working with Ajose, there might be a chance....but it's really clutching at straws.

Just about calmed down after that second half today, on reflection the Pox were a decent side far to good for us. I keep going week in week out more by habit than enjoyment but that is it for me there is no way I am parting with money to buy a season ticket for next season. I have been going for 35 years and a ST holder for the last 15 but the displays we are getting served up are just pathetic and will not change while Power is at the helm.
The model of young non league players and 5 to 7 loans is just not viable especially if you keep selling your best player each season it would be ok if there was a light at the end of the tunnel but there just isn't.

Colkett has been total wank the 3 games I've seen him in. Gladwin no better but I do rate him. I still don't fucking understand how you can bring on a useless cunt like Thomas but not have Smith on the bench as an option. I gave up all hope a few games ago. Stupidly i got myself excited for this one. That won't happen again. I will still attend home games but I won't clap or cheer even when we score. I will sit there arms folded for the 90. If I had the money I would tell every player and every member of coaching staff to fuck off and start all over.

gladwin has great qualities, but not in a midfield like that during a relegation battle. tracking, hard work not his strong point.

Lots of sound points I agree with - Venks, Costanza, aroundthefur for example from the last couple of pages.  So my turn and right, let's try to do this without getting sweary or too ranty.

The real shaking, anger rage stuff for me was the last home game, lining up with Kasim, Colkett, Gladein and Goddard in midfield: all dandy and fine individually,  but utterly ill suited to the rigours of playing together to win a professional game of football.  You simply cannot play four wannabe no.10s.  One of those luxury lightweights or two at most, if it's one up top - supplemented by a gnarly artisan or three.  If that wasn't blindingly obvious after the say, Eastleigh game, then I despair.  And boy, do I despair,

So it was hope rather than expectation that took me over the roundabout at Honda, when I heard the team and my head said turn the heck round and go home.  And if we don't have some hope, then what's left?  So yes, we are playing three of those, it is hard to see how the hell we're stronger after the window, but you never know...

And for half an hour we did play as well as we have in a long while - let's be fair in giving praise for creating genuine opportunities, playing with pace, verve and enthusiasm, thoroughly deserving of being in front, and putting our mid table visitors on the back foot. However, we didn't exploit a number of promising situations with desperate defending or poor decision keeping the score down.  But, fine margins and all that - for me the momentum changed in a breathless spell before half time - there were a couple of fantastic end to end passages of play, with both teams giving everything toe to toe.  The glorious chance then came, it was ours, and miserably fluffed by Colkett, it felt as good as a goal to them., smack on half time.

Tactically they had our number in September, and today again, we had no response to their change.  Even so, they went gung ho early and once more we missed numerous chances to play a killer ball to set Ajose free.  Norris, fantastic in the first half, didn't win another ball. Our midfield was utterly over-run, and it was bizarre, frustrating and fateful that no changes were made.  Lamentably, even whilst winning we lost semblance of shape and control - Jones losing the ball 20 yards out of position on the half way line was the source of the first goal, then Kasim doing likewise from our advantage for the second.  In professional football terms, this is criminal.  There are a million aspects of being a great coach and whilst I'll be the last one standing to defend our high risk purity, I also demand that we are disciplined, resolute and defensively capable.

Conor Thomas having about three goes at tieing his sodding laces up two minutes after coming on, whilst we were defending, sums up this miserable shambles.

Reality bites hard - we bring about 15 players in during January, and still have to bring Thomas and Hylton on.  We have changed nothing in developing a more robust, aggressive style relevant to winning professional games of football.  We capitulate, mentally and physically under pressure because we didn't expect to be winning, or it was too noisy or we're still learning or because we forgot that we were supposed to 'go again' or because that's just what we do.

And yeah, just what I do is think, I might well go to Bury.  You know I could drop Colkett, Gladwin and Feruz off somewhere and pick up Tom Smith and Rohan Ince.  I just hope there aren't too many roundabouts on the way.

Good player when you're better than the other team, dominating possession and looking to unlock a defence; end to end game and he just can't keep up with the pace, either left way up field leaving us a man short or desperatley diving into challenges because if he was any slower he'd be running backwards.

Haven't posted in a while but if Williams and Embleton put the same effort into defensive sessions in training as they do lambasting the 4th official all game we might actually have a few more points than we already do

 - Branco was useless all day and embarrassing for the first goal

I remember lot's of bad things Gladwin did unfortunatly, he was awful yesterday along with most of the others. That lot can get fucked as far as i am concerned after yesterday. I agree with most of you here that the coaching is shocking but it was more than that yesterday i cant excuse players not being able to control 5 yard passes or put a fucking foot in to tackle.Yes people will say the coach should install that but fuck me if a player can't use his own brain then we are fucked.

Lots of comments consistently about our apparent lack of fitness. The fact that Oxford, who are in the 5th round of the FA Cup and the semi final of the boycott trophy and thus have played more games than us recently really suggests something is seriously amiss.

They finished really strongly and we faded, surely it should have been the other way around?

gladwin/colkett/kasim totally lost midfield. the amount of space and time pox had was incredible, they could run 20-30 yards without a challenge.

WTF was wrong with the sicknote yesterday I missed any mention of why Obika was not in the squad yet again and the decision to leave out Rohan Ince was an absolute joke when you have a powder puff midfield on the pitch and then have to bring on Thomas who is stealing a living as a pro footballer.

Question for people if we got rid of Williams/Embleton do you think a new manager could get these players motivated or is it just that they are not good enough?

Are they still training on a 3G pitch everyday? I can't see how training on that 4/5 days a week and then having to play on a proper pitch can get them fit to play on a heavy pitch for 90 minutes at this time of year.

I see a lot of the players at the gym and they sure as hell don't do anything there to get them fit, unless sitting on the bikes chatting is a new fitness trend.

I believe they are good enough, they are desperately unfit (Williams and co.) and definitely not motivated (Williams and co.).  Power is a football man, surely he can see the problems or does he not want to as it will cost him money to do the right thing a get a proper manager in.

3g pitches are energy sapping fuckers in my experience. you don't need a 3g pitch for fitness work, you need a flat surface for sprint, a pavement will do for endurance and hills for strength

When you say fit do you mean fit as in a professional footballer way, or fit as in a Swindon Town player way - there seem to be vast differences between the two.

Its going to cost him money after relegation also (which will I suspect in turn go two ways either accelerate his departure as he cannot be arsed anymore (I do wonder whether this is the case already, but if so why not sell now when we can at least claim to be a third tier club?) or mean he is considerably less likely to sell as the asset value will have dropped considerably?) For someone who is apparently only in it for the money, he is doing a piss poor job of actually doing anything to generate money?

Also when I said (if fit) I mean fit this coming Saturday as we seem to pick up shitloads of injuries in training this season too.

Totally agree. I really don't like abusing players on my own team, but I lost my fucking rag yesterday. Simple through balls that could have resulted in chances being over played, lofting balls to your team mate 5 yards away. It's pathetic. It's stuff you get taught at school that these players cannot do, which is made even more frustrating by the fact that some of them are technically very good.

Had the same kinda feeling I had after we got dicked at Wembley. I don't think I'll go back this season, it's a lot of effort & money for me to get to games anyway and when you get unfit players blowing after 35 minutes who cant kick straight and make no effort it starts to really make you question why you bother. And I genuinely hate feeling this way.

For the first time I'm actually slightly jealous of Oxford. Imagine having a team who fight for everything and can still play decent football.

These 2 points I agree absolutely with, I had a chance to go yesterday but it meant £40 in fuel, 2 hours there and 2 hours back, I haven't felt this crap after a Town game since Wembley.

I went yesterday 100% convinced we were going to lose. And then we scored and for a while looked pretty decent. They started to put us under pressure towards half time and I assumed that Williams, would address this at half time, particularly in midfield as they were MIA for large parts. Instead, we came out for the 2nd half like lambs to the slaughter and the useless cunt waited until pox had equalised before making any changes. Not that it mattered, as his changes were equally shit as the shitcunts already on the pitch (Hylton excepted). Gutless performances from the majority, clueless tactics, although it looked more like no tactics and an insipid and ineffectual contribution from the bench throughout the game.
I walked home thinking that we are seriously in the shit. Then I heard William's post match comments.... What a cunt. What a total, absolute, 100%, gilt edged cunt. Power admitted on last week's phone in that he'd made mistakes in the summer. He now needs to acknowledge his biggest mistake so far and pay Williams off. I felt sorry for Williams initially, he was put in a difficult situation and was found wanting, no shame in that, he could've said to Power that management obviously wasn't his bag and he needed to return to a coaching role. And, a couple of months ago, that would've been ok. Now he can just fuck off. His 'team' (Fucking team, what a joke) are a reflection of him: clueless, gutless and tactically naive.

Yes I totally do. Nathan Thompson and Yaser Kasim during their times here have looked very good players and they look absolutely bobbins at the moment. I 100% think the players here are better than they are showing, its the management that seem to be holding them back, for whatever reason.

Same here. We know we have some players that can deliver. We've seen them do it. Granted, some are likely just shite, but when your good players look poor then something is very wrong.

Indeed. The lock in seems to be a lost art amongst managers these days. Paolo was a master at it and even the sometimes absently minded post-leaner Danny Wilson was partial to handing out a post-match rollocking.

This. Summed up that we haven't been able to defend since he's been here, last season we were reliant on Ajose scoring to win 4-3, 4-2 etc. Even the season we lost in the playoff final, we shipped a lot of goals.

Interesting that the new Hull manager has gone down the Paolo route and had them training every day and repeating the drills and drills. Hey ho, suddenly they stop making errors and they pick up results.

Our approach seems haphazard by comparison. Players get injured and then brought back quickly. Chopping and changing the team doesn't help the fitness and performance levels. Williams seems weary by the whole situation and you doubt whether he has the energy and enthusiasm to turn it around.

Hockaday and Chalkie are spot on with what they say about fitness, it is and has been a concern for a while. Would explain lapses in concentration perfectly, as it goes with fitness.

Being fit wouldn't of itself keep us up but it's an absolute minimum requirement, not met.

To think we briefly rose from the swamps to restore the "natural order" for just one game not so long ago.

If Power is too proud to do it and Williams too weak, then Sweet Jesus, in the name of all that is good and righteous, smite even those of our own who doth make us shit and let us (miraculously) finish 5th from bottom.

2 days later...still raging at the decision to leave Ince out, as well as the appaling fitness and discipline (someone would do well to pass Sercombe's quote onto the players and staff because he's spot on).

Looking at the two squads theirs is clearly better than ours this season and I can see the bastards making the play offs. Just hope we can somehow keep ourselves up, hope to god most of the shit is binned and we recruit much much better and finally learn from our mistakes.

May be a big ask but as Swindon fans we can only live in hope!
