Title: Most seen Bands/Performers
Post by: suttonred on Thursday, November 10, 2016, 21:21:50
Adje started me thinking on this about the Fall. Only seen them once and they were shite. But i guess you need to see a band more than once to be sure if they are any good, So who has everyone seen the most more than once?

I've done:
The Cure x8
Bloodhound Gang x3
Primal Scream x3
Pogues x2
Counting Crows x2
Pretenders x2.

These are the only ones I've seen more than a single time.

I've only seen the Manics twice and I was a super fan once. Okay, not really but the gig at Roundhouse in 2014 was amazing.

I've only seen bands once with the exception of Morrissey who I saw 1.1 times.

An interesting question. So most seen means the largest number; therefore Clash....band. Roy Harper.....performer

I haven't been to a proper gig for best part of 5 years. In my teens, early 20's the most frequent band I saw was probably Sum 41, probably almost hitting double figures.
Because of the music venues such as the Vic (not of late) and the furnace I saw quite a lot of local/uk punk bands very frequently such as [SPUNGE] and 4ft Fingers.
Man I miss being a teenager

The Furnace used to be brilliant for that. Used to love watching the likes of Spunge, Zebrahead and local bands like British Beef and Last Nights Hero.

There's still an active local scene at venues like the Rolly and Vic etc.  I see a fair few of these bands, mainly through the connections to my kid's band.  Of course, a lot of covers bands, which tend not to be to the purists liking, but if you've an open mind plenty to enjoy.

I know a good few old farts who love their live music, with the same passion as when they were kids.

Cover bands get double / triple the fee of original bands so this is why there's a lot of them!

I play at the Vic quite a lot. It's the only place in Swindon now where any kind of alternative music is accepted. Whats your kids band called?

Now weirdly I had very few guest list requests on the recent tour I did with the you tubers Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee mainly on account of not knowing that many 13 year old girls.  I did however have one person to get in in Sheffield.  And that was Mr Ginger Wildheart + 2.  I presume he now has some children or he may have to go on a register.

During Euro 96 in Newcastle at the fans village thingy I inadvertently saw Herman's Hermits, it was actually one of the best times I have ever had at a gig. Conversely I saw the Levellers at some festival thing in Brighton and me and my mate were so pissed we spent the first 40 minutes convinced they were just a shit cover band!

This sounds like confession time.....I once saw 10CC, I thought it was shit, because it was in a theatre and you had to sit down. I was used to standing up, much like football.  10CC were, maybe still are, a curious outfit, as they were resolutely unhip, and difficult to pin down, as to what they were.

Young music fans tend to like their music easily pigeon holeable into genres and then often stick with them into later life which I always think a bit sad.

It's not the embarassment of who I've seen, it's the lack of them.

Stereophonics
Manchester Orchestra
Biffy Clyro
Kings of Leon (x2)

And if you count people you've taken the wife to see, Backstreet Boys and The Script.

Fell out of the punk / new wave / alternative music pigeon hole and saw the late great John Denver once.

Clannad were good as well.

Also Long John Baldry and Tony McPhee at Level 3 in early 80's.

All of the above were cases of being dragged along by mates.
No fucker ever wanted to watch the bands I wanted to see.

I once saw Michael Nesmith of Monkees fame at the ICA in London.  I liked The Monkees TV show, it used to rile the purists something rotten as it was viewed as pure saccharin pop, an early example of manufactured for TV music.

Nesmith actually churned out some more than decent Americana, but it didn't sell, so you could pick up his imports cheap, and they came wrapped in that sealed polythene . Always added a sexy feel, especially anything from Jamaica.

Apparently he's still performing, although now well into his 70's.  Michael's mother invented Tipp-Ex and made a fortune.

Mine's quite short!

James
Oasis
Manic Street Preachers
Boo Radleys (by default on them being a support act!)

Probably one of the more surprising ones for was Basement Jaxx, which I had not expected to be as good as they were live.  Seen quite a few once, but tend not to go back and I'm a bit armchair when it comes to bands.

The one I have never seen and wish I had was Suede (I know they are still doing gigs, but it's not quite the same as seeing someone in their pomp).

Not a great array or artists really:

Loads of others once: Noel Gallagher, David Gray, Stereophonics, Scissor Sisters, Ocean Colour Scene, Kooks, Jake Bugg....

Off the top of my head. the big multiples for me...

Pogues
Manics
Bunnymen
Bragg

Even without referring to my lovingly kept spreadsheet I know that I'll be seeing Frank Turner in a 5th different Oxford venue in a couple of weeks, so chuck in a few others elsewhere and he'd be up there too...which leads to so many different questions...

at which football grounds have you watched from all four sides?
longest gaps between seeing bands...?
bands watched over the longest period...?
