Title: Treasure Island Diizzy.
Post by: flammableBen on Monday, August 22, 2016, 02:13:46
You'd move the chest to the left and jump up and and have a world to explore. Then you'd get the Snorkel and you could go under-water and have another world to explore. You'd instantly die of course, you'd catch that pink/blue/turquoise/limitedPaletImagination jellyfish and have to start again. And you'd get a little bit further. Magic Stone! Crowbar to the depths! Onboard Motor! And then you'd hit the jelly fish again and start again.

Flippers! I'm sorted now! Just that little bit further each time.

No Save Points. Just one man and an egg. And that little bit more.

That's what I miss.

Probably the best of the series, very closely followed by Spellbound Dizzy. Bloody Dora, always getting lost.

Used to love it. Any game like that: Space Quest, Kings Quest, Leisure Suit Larry.
Hours of fun

Monkey Island and Beneath a Steel Sky

On similar lines to Monkey Island, They've recently remade Day of the tentacle for mobile. It's brilliant.

I never got on with Spellbound. Too much used to the easy gameplay of Magicland, Fantasy and Prince. Those later one's were a bit easy, but still had the dizzy magic. Spellbound was a bit annoying to play.

That's why treasure is the best one. Harder than the later ones, but still making sense.

There's all these indy platformers which go on about Metroid. Dizzy was clearly the pre-metroid british exploring platformer of the day. I'm going to call them all Dizzylikes from now on.

Couple of the young lads at work have been talking about that new space game. Loads of galaxies to explore and shit.

Elite did that in 32kb of memory on the BBC Micro almost 30 years ago.

Guru Larry has a YouTube channel with some excellent reviews and memories of older titles. Games that yanks can't wank is a fine series.

I always remember old games as being better than they actually are, so I end up being disappointed when I play them again. I avoid them to prevent destroying my memories.

I get that with some games, but the absolute classics stand up. Chuckie Egg for example is still one of the most replayable games of all time.

Chuckie Egg mirrors life in a lot of ways. At some point the big fuck off yellow duck thing will catch you. Just not today.
