Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 18:06:19 First half XI: Vigouroux, Rossi-Branco, Thompson (C), Sendles-White, Barry, Rodgers, Kasim, Thomas, Brophy, Goddard, Obika Does Branco get a hyphen now? Along with Sendles-White and Ormonde-Ottewill? It's a little known fact that if Toby Roland-Jones plays v Pakistan on Thursday, he will become the first England cricketer with a double barrelled name since dear old "Mandy" Mitchell-Innes claimed his one cap at Trent Bridge in 1935 v Saffas. "Mandy" was a decent chap who was called up from his 2nd year studies at Brasenose, Oxford....just not much good at cricket. Out lbw for 5 going in at 4, in his only innings. Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Tails on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 18:51:37 Sounds like we've had a lot of chances...
Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: The Artist Formerly Known as Audrey on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 19:19:27 1-0. Beaker!
should have had 5 or 6 already Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 20:17:22 Well we used 20 of our own players tonight, quite a few being kids, but I can easily see this being how Wiliams will want to progress....prob a couple of loans and perhaps one more permanent, and we'll be good to go.

Good turnout. Took a while to work out what the formation was. I'm going for a 3-4-3 with midfield diamond and the two wing backs pushed right up. Very adventurous if that is going to be Plan A this season. The starting line up, as it stands, is probably first choice with toss up between BOO & Brophy. Nathan is a class act now. Looks to have bulked up a bit as well. The youngsters looked very good in the second half and Hylton did well. Was sat a few rows behind a Southampton scout. Don't think he was watching anyone in particular, but a fair bit of scribbling going on. An EFL Trophy dossier maybe. But one or two may have been filed away for future reference. I'm guessing Jordan Young in particular. Interestingly Shelbourne play Leeds tomorrow evening, then have a league game at the weekend. No idea if that was their first team tonight. Good luck to them though, contrast ramshackle old ground with Croke Park just up the road. Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 21:43:24 Thanks Wobbly Robert.
Did our Irish Messi play? Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Wobbly Bob on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 21:53:54 Did our Irish Messi play? He did, came on in second half. Looked a little lost, but a couple of glimpses of some good close control and dribbling. Worth persevering with. Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 07:49:39 It was their U-19 team according to a Dublin reporter - who is a town fan - on Radio Swindon this morning. Hodgetts also said our new goalkeeping coach was present, Paul Crichton. Didn't he have a loan spell with us in his playing days? Ex Grimsby keeper wasn't he? Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 07:51:45 Ex Grimsby keeper wasn't he? Yeah I recall him from his Grimsby days (when they were good). Plenty of coaching experience too. Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 08:21:17 On 23 June 2014 he returned to former club Grimsby Town as the club's new goalkeeping coach.[16] On 9 July, having only taken part in a week's worth of pre-season training, Crichton departed Grimsby and joined Blackpool in a similar role.[17] On 7 August 2015 Crichton joined Queens Park Rangers, again as goalkeeping coach,[18] and left the club on 28 January 2016.[19]
Doesn't seem to stay anywhere very long! Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 08:26:50 It's not rare for support coaching staff to come and go though.

There's a huge list of clubs he was contracted to as a player too! Not that that's an issue, more of an observation.. Sort of reminds me of pitching up at Elm Park, Boxing Day 87. To find some bloke in goal who wasn't Fraser or Nicky Hammond. Fraser had bust his thumb earlier in the season....Lou obviously didn't fully trust Hammond, so got Tim Flowers in, when his loan ran out, Hammond came back in, but he got injured in training just before Christmas. As there was no media news because of the hols...had no idea who he was, let alone heard of him. It transpired it was Paul Crichton who Forest had let us have for the emergency....we won 1-0. Hopefully Kean can have a similar impact. Crichton was still going at 40 and picking up a pay cheque for coaching and bench sitting....goalkeeping can be a very decent career. Title: Re: Shelbourne v STFC Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 09:11:35 Paul Crichton wasn't a bad keeper, made his debut for us in an away local derby vs Reading when he played really well in a 1-0 win, at the time he was very highly rated by Forest and we tried to sign him permanently but it never came off.
I do remember he was a good kicker and commanded his area well, hopefully he can pass that onto our keepers. As for the game, seemed like a good result, shame no trialists played but then again even if it was their youngsters you can only beat the team in front of you. Sounds like a good run out.
