Title: John Goddard
Post by: Tails on Friday, May 13, 2016, 14:42:39
Signs from Woking, 3 year deal.

I've seen this guy play a few times, decent player who should fit in here.

Thoughts? Nice to see business getting done early!

Won the player of the season award at Woking, highly rated, sounds a promising midfielder who can score goals.

One quote from the Woking forum that sounds very promising.

Quote
Cheers John - you've been ******* fantastic for us, in amongst dozens of fabulous games for us, Halifax last game of the season a year ago was one of the best individual performances by any player we have ever had

hope it works out well for you

17 league goals from midfield and an England C international, sounds very promising and still only 22.

Sounds like a good acquisition, nice to see some business being done early. With a surname like that, he'll fit right in at the CG.

What like Howard Goddard?

I suspect the first of many ins and outs.

He'll be better than Howard even if he loses a leg between now and August.

More like the Goddards of Old Town, lords of the manor from the 16th century sort of thing

Looks like he can use both feet and some decent goals in here. Encouraging non league signing.

or who could forget Yinka Casal?

Enjoyed the clip actually and one or two featured "Moaners Corner" at the Kingfield, Woking.  It must be every non-leaguers dream to one day play in front of the Moaning Massif that is the Arkells - hope he isn't overawed

Welcome, John Goddard and well done Power!

I know its only Youtube and as shown by others that doesn't count for much but boy can he hit a ball and some of those close in strikes are worthy of a centre forward.

Had to wipe the man-goo off this first from a Woking fan

'Over riding thoughts are that I am proud of my club for the way that we conduct ourselves, but also that John Goddard is an absolute gentleman. A young lad who appeared to never think he was too good for Woking,( although he was, ). And from what I hear, he never caused an ounce of trouble, worked his socks off, and was an absolute star. I hope he reads this forum as he deserves to read how much he was appreciated.,He is just a top human being, and people like him deserve all they get. What you do in life , echoes in eternity, so John, be very proud of who you are , you are a young Messi in the making, so go and rip up some trees in division 1, your family (and Swindon) are very lucky indeed'

Happy with that. Scored goals with left, right and head in that 'montage'.

If he's half as good as Gladwin he'll do very well.

If I read any more comments on the Woking forum I think I might cry  :D :(

With the Redditch episode in mind, it's good to see that Power has made a point of praising Woking.

With the way it's panned out, with hindsight perhaps Redditch did best out of the deal?

One of those goals was past Phil Smith (so he must be good). Sounds like the right kind of signing. It'll be interesting to see where he plays in a 3-5-2 - the most advanced midfielder?

I had a look on that FB group and even on there the response is mostly positive, it must be a good signing.

I bet he'll turn out shit.

Fucking power splashing the cash on shit players. Why has he done that? He could have bought a private jet instead.

My brother watches Woking now and then. Rates Goddard as one of the best players he's seen at that level.

That looks like a positive, decent signing for us.

Good to get some business done early doors too.

Could be the new Harry Arter....remember when we were going to sign him from Woking but Bormuff took the punt instead?

That was a pre money Bormuff...

Anyone know why so many transfer fees are now 'undisclosed'? What's the advantages for the clubs involved?

I suppose, when it comes to a club's accounts, the fee would have to be stated.

We will soon coach that range of shooting out of him.

Why are you in an advanced position? You should be on the edge of your own box waiting for the 'keeper to pass it out!

No one seems to have a bad word to say about him, I'm now convinced he's going to break both his legs in pre season

Lifted from a Non League Forum - sounds promising from the young signing

England 'C' 3 Slovakia U21 4
International Challenge Trophy at Sutton United
Admission; Free
Programme; Free - funny, small fold out issue- but as it was free- who can complain - teamsheet also available for free in club shop
Attendance; 1527 (announced)

Good game with Slovakia winning in injury time from a direct free kick, they probably deserved it after the ref turned down what seemed a stonewall penalty for the Slovaks in the 90th minute. Their coach was sent to the stand after chucking his water bottle on the pitch after the penalty was not given.
Best England player was John Goddard and no surprise that he will be playing in the League at Swindon next season
England seemed to lose it (from being 3-1 up) after all the substitutes were all used in the second half.
Not a bad game for the last of the season and makes a change to need an ice cream rather than a half time Bovril
