I wasn't surprised that *it* happened, I was surprised that it happened in episode 2 though.

I think there'd been so many rumours on the whole thing that that there wasn't really a way of doing it that was going to be surprising and shocking.

I am very much looking forwards to ReJon, Davos, Brienne, Sansa, Melisandre and Tormund all teaming up to kick seven shades out of Ramsay though.

I was surprised to see Roose poisoned by his enemies though.

Also, the Tyrion with the Dragons scene was set up to troll book readers something chronic - a non-show character has a very similar scene to that, albeit with a slightly toastier ending, and that's the first time I've genuinely thought they might off Tyrion. The plot armour is strong, however.

so, will Jon Snow be back to normal... or just back. That is the question.

"Don't eat the help" - they can't off Tyrion..

The oath the men of the Nights Watch say when joining include 'Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death.' so not sure where that leaves Jon... some folk think he might be reborn as Azor Ahai, the chap that Melisandre thought Stannis was...

Tyrion's my favourite character. He's the smartest of all and perhaps the kindest of all those in power. He deserves his own dragon, or two.

Oh, and boobs, we got boobs. And arse. (Before she turned into an old witch)

Which episode did you watch?! The T&A was last week, ep 2 was Monday (UK). Assume you are up to dateif you are in thread.

Ramsay Bolton, they couldn't make him any more dislikeable if he bit the heads of children. Which I suppose he virtually did..

Yes. As is John Snow, who will come back as the reincarnation of Azor Ahai (The Prince That Was Promised) who originally defeated the White Walkers. John Snow is a Targaryen too - His mother was Ned Stark's older sister, Lyanna, and father is Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.

Sorry! :-( Well, the thread did say *SPOILERS*

Anyway, I am only guessing from clues that have been placed in the episodes thus far.

I was kinda hoping the Snow being the lovechild of Lyanna Stark and the Targaryen dude would come to fruition after they tried to burn him and he wouldn't.

Too much is going right at the moment though. Roose dying, Sansa with Brienne, Jonny back... Something horrendous is about to happen.

Title: Re: Game of Thrones *SPOILERS*
Post by: Leggett on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, 08:48:16
Roose dying would only have been a good thing if it didn't involve Ramsey assending to the head of the Bolton clan... but I agree, someone that is liked will meet a sticky end before too long. I really hope it isn't Tyrion, but George is a prick.

Also wondering how faithfully the Kingsmoot story will play to the books.

Yeah Roose is the lesser of two evils but it was still fairly satisfying watching the evil he nurtured take him out!

I have the subtitles on, like a little old man.

You knew something bad had to happen to someone, there's been too much happiness over the last few episodes... but yea, that properly upset me.

The Tormund/Brienne moments are brilliant though, but can't help but feel that's gonna end horribly.

Right, here goes....

- The children of the forest created the White Walkers to kill humans who were killing them
- Looks like the White Walkers are trying to get revenge on the Children of the forest and the Three Eyed Raven (The bloke in the tree) as they initially turned them from humans into White Walkers
- I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the Wall was built by the children of the forest and the one eyed raven to keep the humans out
- The Three Eyed Raven said he had been waiting at the tree for Bran. So, much like the Hodor thing (Bran Warging into Wylis in the past) I also wouldn't be surprised if the One Eyed Raven, Bran and the builder of the wall (allegedly Bran The Builder) were all one and the same person
- The High Priestess is higher up the pecking order with the Lord of Light than Melisandra the Red Witch
- The High Priestess has set everything up now for the next series (I think) by saying the dragons will torch thousands of non-believers.
- Have to remember that the original name for GoT (in the book) is 'A song of Ice & Fire'

Interesting you say that as I must admit I am getting a little bit bored of the whole thing at the moment. I know it will be setting things up for an almighty dust up at the end of the series (I assume the Stark versus Bolton battle), but the whole Bran wandering about thing which seems to have gone on for about 2 series now is just beginning to remind me of the Harry Potter film where they just wandered around in a wood for an entire film as they didn't have enough material to fill a film.

Sure it will get there but all a little meh at the moment sadly.

He'll be a key player in what's to come, there's too much been invested in him and his story for him not to be.

Are we watching the same show?

The Bran storyline was dull as fuck in season 4 but this year (he wasn't in season 5), him showing the flashbacks has been pretty interesting and is obviously done to give us more hints about the Stark lineage. The first 5 episodes have definitely been "shifting" things around but I've enjoyed them.

They are hinting at a massive Stark 'comeback' of sorts. History teaches us that it will end horribly for them.

They definitely hinted that, but nothing confirmed. If he is Lyanna's son, then he's most likely a Targaryen, which makes things very interesting indeed.

Talking of unconfirmed hints, that touch that Bran got which allowed the walkers into his little Tubby Hill place - he's going to cross the wall and let them into the north, isn't he?

Also...

Don't mean to be crude, but any knobs yet?

Proper Genie "be careful what you wish for" there...

I thought so, I have an idea then that he and Sansa may get it on (he has history with gingers) and unite the Stark house?

Title: Re: Game of Thrones *SPOILERS*
Post by: Leggett on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 09:06:50
The Ned Stark - the Early Years flashbacks have certainly set that up. Lyanna was abducted by Rhaegar Targaryen and she was in the tower the two Kingsguard were defending, so stands to reason that Jon is Lyanna and Rhaegar's sprog. That'd help with Danaerys' plans for Westeros, should his origin be known!

The R+L=J theory has been around for years. That's Rhaegar Targaryen (dany's older brother) + Lyanna Stark = Jon for those who aren't as obsessed with this show as my other half & I are!

Yarrrp.

I thought it was a good episode, but like you say, clearly one of those mid season ones that's building up to the big events coming in the next few episodes (Ramsay v Jon Snowdown, Cersei's probable trial by combat, whatever goes down with Marg/Tommen/Pope Rasputin).

Feels like much of this series has been a big game of chess, putting the players into place for the big fight - whether or not that's this series or next I don't know..
---
Bronn and the hound in one episode, good stuff. Oh and Lord Percy Percy Heir to the Duchy of Northumberland...

The Arya storyline was odd. All that "a girl has no name tedium", finally runs away and looks ready for a fight if needed only to get stabbed. Guess she'll be OK and eventually kill the waif.

I heard somewhere that Arya is not actually Arya, but has a 'face' and she will leave a trail of blood to the actual (alive and well) Arya that will kill the waif with her sword 'needle'.

Dany getting dropped off like a mum dropping their kid off at school felt a bit shit to me. Her city is under attack and her dragon just casually flies in and drops her off. I thought the whole point of drogon or whatever he's called was that he's completely unstable and does what he wants. Does Dany have a dragon sat nav or something?

I think about these things too much  :D

Have we seen them actually in the air?

“A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell. And I’m going home"

Well, that took long enough. There must be a point to the mostly tedium of her storyline though. Presumably, that she is refined in the art of disappearing. And staggering medical recoveries.

not read anything but,:

one assumes this is headed for a Bolton v Stark showdown, a cercie v grand sparrow showdown, a mother of dragons v whatsit  showdown. surely all too much to fit in before the end of the finale.

I guess the white walkers will make progress come the end as a hook into the next series

The last episode is extra long.

The faceless men story was probably the second most tedious after the Dorne one last season. Thankfully they seem to have forgotten about the sand snakes.

In past seasons, episode 9 has been the cracker and episode 10 has just set up a bunch of cliffhangers for the next season.

That said, Cersei is definitely setting off the wildfire under King's Landing - Tyrion even brought it up this week to make sure the slow viewers at the back understood. Roast sparrow, anyone?

Excellent episode last night. Felt like it needed a 'good' character to go and Rickon has barely featured so it didn't feel that bad losing him but it was enough to provoke old Jonny Snow who seems to be almost superhuman atm.

I feel like we're due some overwhelmingly bad news. Next weeks bumper episode will be interesting, although I think it's more likely to set off some cliffhangers. I'm starting to feel like one more season would do this show fine.

Cracking episode 10 that, the same director has done that, the previous ep and Hardhome. Hand the guy a blank cheque to make the rest of the series please.

He even did a good sand snakes scene - admittedly by getting Olenna to totally undermine their credibility, but every line of dialogue they've ever had has done that.

Also, the acting budget just got cut dramatically for the next season... stick it all in the CGI please

That's if it was 'R' that was whispered.

Series 7:
- Jamie to kill Cersei
- Arya to become Lady Stoneheart & join Brothers without Banners
- B without B to kill Breanne (of Tarth)
- Sansa to betray JS
- Bran to break spell holding Winter King behind the Wall

Since we've lost Ramsay and to some extent, Walder and Jamie is very much being portrayed as a good guy these days, I think Cersei is gonna take on the role of main antagonist (along with the Night King). I can see a massive Lannister struggle as Tyrion is heading towards Kings Landing, but I'm not sure about Jamie killing Cersei (although Monarchslayer seems like an upgrade from just a pissy Kingslayer)

It's hard to predict.

No!

Raegar Targaryan, who was the oldest son of 'The Mad King' (who Jamie Lanister killed because he was going to burn all his people with wildfire) is the father.

[The Mad King's other children were Dannerys and her brother who sold her to the Dothraki (and who was killed with the moltern gold crown)]

Leanna (Ned Stark's sister) was the mother.

She was betrothed to Robert Baratheon (Cersei's husband) but was whisked away by Raegar. This made Robert rise up against the Targaryans and he killed Raegar. At the same time he sent Ned to find his sister - The visions that Bran saw this series, where Ned killed those guarding her and took John Snow from her.

Leanna told Ned to promise to look after John as Robert B would kill him if he knew who his true mother and father were.

Keep up at the back!! :-)

how the fuck are they going to wrap this up in the remaining 9/10 episodes. we must surely be in the end game of the domestic battles but that will leave not long for the Night King main event.

Good episode though, spunked the budget on the last bit but worth it. Can't see Jamie offed mind. Assume Bron saved him but it would be cool if it turned out to be Tyrion (he was too far away though)

Was half expecting Jon Snow to walk away from the caves with a packet of chalks in his back pockets :)

I've just managed to watch it myself, but not before I've already has somebody spoil some of it for me

I know this is a spoilers thread but I'll keep it to myself until it's broadcast. People come to this thread to be able to talk about it without spoiling it for others, not to have it spoiled for them.

Because he's posting spoilers for episodes that have not even been broadcast yet. This is for people to discuss what's been on TV without ruining it for those that can't watch it when broadcast. Not for some smart-arsed cunt to come along and think he's funny by spoiling it before anybody has had a chance to watch it.

Apologies. In my defence, I was still very drunk from the night before.

Thought the season, overall, was actually quite poor. A lot of big moments but it was so rushed and the writing is becoming so stale it wasn't as enjoyable as the earlier seasons. Also there is nothing shocking anymore and to me, it feels like it's really becoming "good guys v bad guys" which it never was before.

Ah well, they have one more season to rectify it and at least we did have some epic moments in S7.

No I am totally with you on this. I thought the battle scenes were great but didn’t really see the point of the night king or white walkers in this whole story. There were no omg moments. Think it would have been much better if a major character died.

Title: Re: Game of Thrones *SPOILERS*

That and the direction was piss poor with overly dark scenes adding to confusion.
Plus the main characters swamped many times by WW, yet all seemed to survive.
Plus all John Snow did was shout at the bad dragon.
Plus Bran is fucking useless.

But there were some good bits.
Arya finishing it all, Lyanna Mormont sticking the giant on her way out, the dothraki flaming sword charge being snuffed out, Cleganebowl still being on.

Guess no shocks and a rushed end to the NK story* (not the battle, wouldn't want that dragged over 2 episodes)

* presumably.

Yes and no. I still wasn’t sure who was killed. I took it for granted that as Jamie and Brienne weren’t actually shown dying heroically - like Theon - that they survived. Same goes for Samwell - is he toast or not?

I presume now that Jamie is destined to die in front of his sister back at Kings Landing.

It was way too dark, but most TV is these days I find, in parts could barely see what was going on! Likewise its become the norm in TV stuff for people to survive the un survivable, I must admit it got on my tits about half way through when it became clear that only something special would win the battle.

I find Bran unbearably smug and irritating, and once again Jon Snow fucked up and was saved by others.

Probably going to watch this one and last weeks again stone cold sober to see what I have missed!

I don't mean the battle itself. That was enough, though I thought we'd see some kind of duel with the NK.

Just thought that  years of "winter is coming" came to an end in one episode. Assuming it had

Still, with so few episodes  left it was either NK+WW v Kings Landing, or North v South. Think they went the right way.

Why does/did the NK want to kill Bran ? Don't get this.

He said something or other about being the world's memory in the last episode, and memory being the opposite of death. But yeah, Bran seemed to not really have much of a role other than sitting around and being mysterious - even the bit with the ravens didn't really achieve much?

Overall, I'm getting serious Star Wars XII vibes about this episode. I really enjoyed watching it at the time, mostly for the set pieces, and thought the number of named characters surviving implausible situations whilst nameless allies died in their droves was a bit much, but since then I've been on the internet and discovered an incredible amount of moaning about every single part of the episode from military tactics to the ending.

I do think they'd written themselves into a corner a bit where no ending to the Night King arc was going to be narratively satisfying, but think he should have taken out a few more named characters first. Think I'd have quite liked Arya doing the deed from behind whilst NK was duelling and beating Jon/Jaime/Brienne in a mirroring of the Tower of Joy flashbacks from the last season.

thought it was very good. i dont think it would have come across as good being a day battle, as said the fire swords disappearing at the start was brilliant and so much of the story came together in this one episode. People being kept alive to have their part in the finale, arya having killed brown eyes, green eyes and then blue eyes- should have caught on earlier that she would have popped up at the end.

those saying it was a limp exit for the NK, well yes it was but he had to have been defeated in this episode, otherwise it would have been a two episode battle and if he had won then all of the main cast except cerci and crazy boat man would have been left.

its still going to be fascinating how they get another 3 episodes- 240 mins out of the remaining story line.

I suspect that Crazy boat man (also known as finger up the bum man  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: in our household!) will have a big battle with Alfie Allens sister (in the programme not Lily!) whose name I cannot recall as she is going to be well pissed about her brother and was in the process of retaking the Iron Islands, so thats one episode.

Cersi will I assume have a big dust up although not sure how much army she has, and what will Jamie end up doing, on that basis I suspect the machinations of House Lannister will also take up much of the time, plus of course we have to see how Jon and Dani overcome their little incest problem?

Plenty to play with.

Quite agree.

Here's what I wrote elsewhere:

Well that was awesome and disappointing at the same time.

You can't argue that the awesome power of Drogon wasn't shown in full! The action was so well done, and the lack of morality from Dany and a vengeful Grey Worm was sobering in its consequences..

10/10 for action.

And yet, as is this season it all seems a little rushed again to get to next weeks finale. The Cleganebowl wasn't as awesome as it could have been, but the expected payoff over Cersei's death didn't really arrive. Fitting that Jamie and Cersei died together maybe, but like that? Not good enough for me.

I have reservations about trying to resolve what's left in one episode. Presumably Tyrion and Jon Snow will be looking to dispose of Dany, and Drogon. And then there is Sansa and Winterfell to come into play. Probably. Who knows.

Hopefully Dany will head north to toast Winterfell as well.

Who was Varys writing the notes to?
Dorne?

I reckon a crossbow bolt from Bron will be heading somebody's way, and it might not be Tyrion.

Arya, still in business, might want to reopen the kill list after a nasty bout of smoke inhalation.

Go Dany go.

That’s the problem when scriptwriters have to write where the author hasn’t written the books yet.

Ending was a bit too Hollywood schmaltz for me - reminded me of the ending of Lord of the Rings.

I was still half expecting Drogon to come swooping down to finish the job.

Totally!

Given the rushed nature of the season, I didn't hate the end as much as I thought I was going to.

I must confess to was all a bit meh about the whole thing, had an air of after the Lord Mayors show about the finale after the two previous ones. On one hand I can see the writers would have got battered if they had not concluded (to a degree) everyone's story, but it was all a bit tame, Dennis's ending was incredibly rushed and emotionless when considering how much time has been spent on her 'story', much as was Cersei's the week before, Bron didn't swear enough when he finally reappeared.

At the bit at the end when they panned away, is Sansa incredibly tall or Ayra incredibly short, I still cannot get my head around there only being a years difference in age between the two actresses.

As for Jon being banished to the Knights Watch, as the Wildlings are on side and the White Walkers gone (And the wall basically destroyed by the dead dragon) why do they actually need the Knights Watch anymore and where were they actually wandering off to at the end.

Honestly I think they have done this just to keep it open to sequels. I don’t know how or what, but I think they are going to milk the hype and make a couple more iffy seasons. If the current writes are involved I think they may only be one season wonders.

They had to do so much in 1 series so was a bit of a shame I thought. Enjoyed it nonetheless and it wasn't as ridiculous as the 'Lost' finale which left me thinking what a waste of time watching that was.

I'm impressed with how incredibly fit Sansa has become. My word!

Check out her halloween costume... She went as Morticia Addams:

Just watched it.

Pah. Dirty Northern Bastards. Even in fiction, nothing changes.

George R R Martin can now hopefully pull his finger out and finish the books.
