Title: After a laptop
Post by: chalkies_shorts on Saturday, April 23, 2016, 09:27:15
I'm after a laptop for my lad. He plays some pretty low level games and the kind of spec I'm looking for is Intel Core i.5. Ram 6GB. Graphics nVidia GeForce GTX 660.2GB. He won't be gaming online or won't be playing the shoot them ups. He's more into Sims and Cities Skyline.
Last time I asked for advice JJ came up trumps and recommended a laptop for my daughter which proved excellent.

If hes not playing too many intensive games then I wouldn't bother too much with a GTX660 (I take it you mean a GTX960 as thats the newer model as the 660 is now obsolete) he can get away with lesser onboard graphics.

Depending on budget....this is a cracking cheap option at £499.

If you prefer better graphics (950m) and an 250gb SSD which will speed games and Windows up considerably..then this one at £719.

If these are no good what budget are you looking at?

Cities Skylines requires quite a bit of graphics power if you want to play it on anything other than low settings.

It would probably work out cheaper to spec out a decent desktop if it doesn't specifically have to be a laptop.

JJ pardon my ignorance but one of the games my lad will play needs an Intel i5 3470 3.20ghz. The Medion one seems to have less ghz. I am as thick as shit - will it be ok or do I have to look for something else.

What game is it? Doesn't seem to be a low level game if that's minimum requirement.

Google pc specialist.
They have a good range of base spec gaming laptops.
Then just build up the spec according to budget and requirements
Excellent build quality and reviews are very good.

As Samdy said earlier, it's quite a demanding game

Regardless of the processor, Cities Skylines is going to struggle on laptop graphics.

If you really must get a laptop instead of desktop, Chalkie, just get the best available spec for your budget.
