Title: The League One Relegation Run-In (2015-16)
Post by: Costanza on Saturday, April 16, 2016, 20:15:46
Swindon Town are now the highest place side who can still themselves relegated. I think we'll be okay but facing a crucial summer considering the teams going down being strong and some of those coming up who will be able to compete.

Colchester are done while Doncaster's result today could act as a catalyst for their potential survival. They've pretty much got to keep winning but looking at their run-in, it's not impossible.

The most vulnerable are obviously and thankfully Blackpool but I still think Shrewsbury Town might come to the CG in a similar situation as Orient found themselves in last season.

Chesterfield lose their next two games and they'll be worried too (and Swindon will be safe and this thread retired)

Nice, bright and sparkly, but whichever way you look at it, we're in deep trouble.

Relying on Blackpool may not be enough, Donny's unlikely win today may just act as a catalyst for them, after all Blackpool themselves got 10 points from 4 recent fixtues before their last 2 defeats, so why can't Donny?

1. I didn't say we were relying on Blackpool, but it looks bleak for them with only 3 to play.
2. I agree about Doncaster, I stated that above.
3. You're ignoring the other clubs involved.
4. This wasn't posted as reassurance, we are in the relegation run-in (I just don't think we'll go down)

I posted more as a back up to your points about Donny. I take it as given that all the others will finish above us, 20th has to be the hope.

Because we're relying on others, there's no way of knowing how this'll end up....we're talking historical shitness here. I've said for a while it'll go to the last game v Shrews....

Colchester and Blackpool are screwed, think Shrewsbury will be OK, that leaves four other teams who all have to overtake us. They've all been shit all season, that's why they're where they are. I'm sure some of them will overtake us, but not all four. Even if we lose all our remaining games, which I accept is quite possible, maybe even likely

If Blackpool win two of their last three, they could easily go above us. They won three of four prior to their last two games. I hope you are right, but I don't think they are screwed yet. The others may well have been shit all season, but we are the most shit at winning currently.

We have enough points to be safe.

Club needs a major overhaul in the summer

If it hadn't been for the brief Martin Ling period (and a short hangover afterwards), we'd be dead and buried by now.  Just shows that we need a proper manager.  A good one, preferably.

Luke Williams' tenure has given us 22 points. I would say that without those points we'd be all quitting TEF, going down on Mediterranean hookers and preparing for another dismal loss at Whaddon Road.

We wont go down. No way will Blackpool or Donny win all of their games. Donny would have to win all 4 to catch us and Blackpool would have to win at least 2 of 3 difficult games, also there are too many teams between us and the drop zone i cant see all of them having a good run at the same time. I think a point will be enough now for us.

Don't event think we need a point. If Blackpool stay up, I think they will send Fleetwood down.

Don't forget the inevitable annual ( financial irregularities ) skeleton coming out the cupboard threatening us with 3 points deduction. Puts us right in it.

Spot on. This is the time for Power to show the fans what we can fully expect under his tenure

do you mean finding out whether we well be in for a  bargain basement rush job squad/selling anything like this year, or a considered investment job like last years squad?

or something else?

I agree but I do think this season is exactly what we have come to expect. Some good some shit, a few cheap signings a few loans and working still on a shoestring, wages budget wise, so a lean tight squad.

Power will have to choose wisely and early on the loan front with the new rules next season and I do expect a few ex Premiership/Championship youngsters coming in on frees, a few young players from non-league and maybe one or two slightly more experienced signings, exactly as we had pre season this term.

I am fairly sure we will lose one of Obika or Ajose (hopefully not both) and a few others will be released and replaced.

Donny don't have to win all four. Three wins and a draw will do it, if we lose our remaining games, as the goal difference will swing in their favour. Donny's remaining games don't look so tough now that they have just beaten Wigan.

Doncaster Rovers

19/04/16: Chesterfield (a) - Relegation threatened
23/04/16: Coventry City (h) - Nothing to play for
30/04/16: Crewe Alexandra (a) - Relegated
08/05/16: Burton Albion (h) - Championship/Automatic/Play-Off chasing

I think you are right though in that one more point for Town could well be enough.
