Title: STFC signature moves
Post by: jayohaitchenn on Thursday, March 24, 2016, 12:54:51
I thought this comment was worthy of a new thread:

We have had players good enough to have moves named after then, the Flint Hoof and the Keith Scott mis-control to name but two.

I nominate the Michael Pook Flick - an aimless punt into the channel delivered over one of your shoulders without looking.

Fair point, but perhaps the "youth team headbutt" needs to be put in too. You know, for balance.
Also the Branco elbow was mentioned :D

The Adi Viveash Switcheroo - to be substituted after coming on as a substitute.

The Kingy Kick-off - needs no explanation

The Gurney Principle - the theory that because you once managed to score an amazing free kick that you'll be able to repeat this feat despite all evidence suggesting otherwise

The water off a Duke's back - to be a scapegoat for an extended period of time

Cant remember if it was Viveash or Gooden who were subs then subbed after shockers on debut's first ? iirc. Cant remember details but both were at home and I think Gooden's first touch he trod on the ball and face met pitch rapidly.

It definitely happened to Viveash. I could have sworn it was Wolves (H) in the Ardiles 'promotion' season but have looked it up and it wasn't that game. I don't remember that fate befalling Gooden - doesn't mean it didn't happen though.

Edit: Got it - Viveash was against Boro, early in the 90/91 season. He came on for Alan Mac in the 49th minute and was replaced by Summerbee in the 70th. In possibly not the greatest tactical move ever, Ossie decided Adi could play in midfield but the poor bastard looked about as out of place as I would have done.

You can't say it often enough, http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/ is an unbelievably good website.

The Don Rogers Bob - to go around the Arsenal goalkeeper, Bob Primrose Wilson, and slot the ball into an empty net!!!!!!

The 21st Century adaptation when one on one with a keeper at Wembley was not so effective. The Charlie Austin Bobble.

In reply to my own previous post two above - Ty made his debut v West Ham in '94 as a sub for Frank McAvennie (Frank McAvennie FFS!!) and was not subbed himself.

On something of a tangent, when you look at the lists of ex-players on the afore mentioned and excellent http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/ it never ceases to amaze me how many players have made appearances for us in recent years (i.e. last 10 years) who I have no recollection of. Ahmed Abdulla being a prime example. The last of his two appearances was in 2011 v Hereford - I was at that game, I've seen the mother fucker play but have no recollection of him whatsoever!

Any way, back to the point of the thread (sorry)...

The Bobby Barnes V Sign. A two fingered harmless gesture to a lino after your 2ND disallowed goal that get's
interpreted as the offensive V sign. Results in a sending off, suspension, loss of form leading to the end of your Swindon career.
