Title: Gillingham v Swindon Town Official Matchday Thread
Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Saturday, February 6, 2016, 06:53:41
So what do we think today?

I can't see past a defeat I'm afraid, 3-1 to the pikey cunts.

Yeah Gillingham to comfortably win. 3-0. Can't ever remember us getting a result there.

Batter us for 30 minutes...late tackle and Dack is off.

Williams changes it by sending on Penhill Primary 2nd eleven bench who turn the Pikeys goal into a Coconut shy.

The bastards hold on until the 89th minute when after a typical over zealous Rodgers tackle on the edge of the box sees the ball balloon over the keeper to send the town fans into a frenzy.

Flasheart feels like he is actually there due to the pin sharp quality of the STFC Player.

The title is still within reach.

Monday morning arrives and Power loans out Ajose and Beeks.

There is still no roof on the Stratton Bank.

Town win 1:0 .....wind assisted......

What still no roof? I don't believe it.

Losing to Port Vale 1 0 felt like a decent result, losing 3 0 to Jill, ditto

That's 72-73 points? That kind of form over a season could be enough to make the playoffs. 69 was enough last season. Teams have been known to get promoted by winning the playoffs.

Depends who is fit to play, if we are at full strength think we will lose by the odd goal.
If we are still without Branco & Turnbull it will probably be a bartering

Anybody who went kind enough to give us their thoughts?

Scrappy game, mainly due to the strong wind playing a big part. Hoped we'd be able to take advantage of playing with the wind in 2nd half and nick a winner but we didn't create much.

Gills didn't impress either though.

Maintained my record of not seeing us concede a goal this season! A creditable result which could have been better if some of our players had tried a bit harder ( Obika,Kasim,Robert) Whatever was said on the commentary,Gillingham were dire for a side top of the league and apart from hitting the post after a typical defensive calamity never really looked like scoring, for all their possession, pretty much a one man team,Dack although a whingeing cheat, being their only decent player. We could have nicked it at the end through Ajose and Obika.I am not Nathan's biggest fan but he was superb today and Turnbull looked more solid than apparently of late. Iandolo had a nice little 20 minutes at the end and Doughty was pretty efficient.
- Have to say again that is definitely the worst away end in the country.I said to one of the staff "they named THIS after Brian Moore?" He replied " I know,it's an insult".

Oh my life, As it was so dreadful out I decided to trawl around buying stuff. I went to Wickes and bought some plywood sheets to panel the gazebo in and as soon as I came out of the exit with the trolley it blew over. People are so helpful though, about four people jumped out of their cars/came out of the shop and helped. Big thanks to them.

B&Q's car park was so flooded I got a bootie walking to the entrance and again on the way back. Some of the puddles on Great Western Way were spectacular for the passing car spray.

Agree Reg. You wouldn't want to watch football in that, let alone play it.

Big game tomorrow.....Fleetwood v Shrews.

0-0 then. Probably a good outcome for us, keeps both at arm's length.

Interestingly as things stand, we've 10 games left v sides in the bottom half of the table and 6 against teams in the top half. Not sure if that means a great deal really as Barnsley have shown how you can get on a roll and motor up the table, it was only last week they were below us, and now can just about see the PO's.

I think BOO got lucky on that first-half penalty shout.

What was the background to that first chance that hit the post, did Vigorous take a free kick or a throw or something (the ball appears from off screen and then he appears a few seconds later also off screen, suicidal approach whatever it was.

From those highlights our midfield seem to be neither helping the back 4 or trying to get up and help the strikers? I would hate to be playing behind a group that only seem to lumber into shot around 10 seconds after the chance has developed.

It was a bit odd. As far as I could tell, they had a corner which the guy was trying to take from outside the D. Therefore, the ref gave us a free kick right in the corner, which Vigs took and shanked a bit.

Do you think Gills deliberately got penalised, reckoning a better way to create chances was to hand possession back to Vigs and our back three?  It often seems to work ;)

Looked like a great save later by Vigs, tbf

The Gills player that hit the post is claiming that it was going in until a gust of wind blew it onto the upright.

Proof if it was ever needed that God is a Swindon town supporter.

In other news, my old club, mighty Stockton and Codford FC reach the Wilts Junior Cup final after beating Hilperton 5:1.

Fingers crossed the final won't clash with a home game.

Had many a battle v Stockton and Codford.nice to know they are still going.

If I were god, I'd do a bit more than helping us to an away draw at Gillingham.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was blown off course. I was nearly blown off the back of the stand in the gale force wind.

Nobody plays junior football on Saturdays now.

Salisbury league 1.5 divisions, trowbridge 1.5 and I think Swindon has two just about... Used to be 5 divisions in Salisbury when I played.

Used to be three Wilts. league divisions, all amalgamated into one now.

I was going to ask about this....years ago there was loads of youth Saturday afternoon football....a reason why midweek crowds were often high was that lads who played could go to a game on a Tuesday if not a Saturday. My instinct would be that there's not the same levels, but no real idea, so you seem to confirm it.
