I'm finally on my way after a 15 minute delay at Swindon station. My last away game was Walsall (we won 4 - 1)
Same again today. A comfortable 4 - 1 win coyr.

No particular reason to believe that the run won`t continue today - not many goals so a sneaky 1-0 victory coming up - not going to come a croppy until Burton...happy bloody Christmas...

As stated in Mr Box's earlier thread, today is a key indicator of where we're at.  Get something and all is good we look upward, lose and we're back to square one.

We're capable of both on the evidence of this season, but we could do with getting as many points as possible while we have Louis and Gladwin about the place.

You kept saying similar things last season, then never mentioning it when we won said game.

It's a good way of never being wrong though, I'll give you that.

One STFC!!! COYR!!!

For those that missed it:

TOWN TEAM: Vigouroux, Barry, El-Abd, Branco (capt), Turnbull, Rodgers, L Thompson, Robert, Gladwin, Obika, Ajose.
Subs: Belford, Ormonde-Ottewill, Brophy, Traore, Iandolo, Ojamaa, Hylton.

You haven't really played football have you?
It's all about slowing the game down and stopping the opposition from getting any momentum. Plus the time doesn't really get added on, i'm pretty sure if you totted up all the stoppages there should be about 10 minutes added on every game...

Anyway we won, job done!

No, I haven't and I think you'll struggle to find a huge number 40 year old women who have  :) However, I've watched it for long enough to know why it's done.  It can backfire though, Wigan away being a prime example.

As a general rule of thumb the ref adds on 30 seconds a sub. So even without any 'timewasting' you are looking at 3 minutes minimum added on. As I said previously you never really get the real amount of time wasted back, a keeper can easily waste a minute or so per goal kick without getting booked or the time added on.
It's not quite as easy as just saying 'finish the game off', if we tried that and got caught on the counter attack this thread would look quite different, it's called game management!

That was a game of two halves. First half, clear precise passing and competing for the ball. Making Shrewsbury look like twats. Scoring one in the process
Second half they took the game to us and made us look like prats, not scoring in the process.
Well happy. Merry Christmas one and all.

Unlikely, but in football you can never tell.

Look at someone like the Scousers, both Anton's old man and Klopp have had 8 Prem games apiece.  They both won 3 drew 3 and lost 2. Brendan got fired becasue he's apparently clueless, whereas Klopp is supposed to some sort of genius  :hmmm:

I did point out to my mate at Rochdale he was the only one wearing gloves.. But it's the only game I've seen him play where he didn't look utterly shit, so I've let him off in case it's a luck thing.

Why does everyone hate it when players in wear gloves? One less thing to distract you when you're playing
Why they cannot just put their hands down their shorts like we did when we used to play I just don't understand.

if you get distracted by cold hands as a professional footballer you're in the wrong sport

Especially when it's really not cold...

So why is it acceptable to wear long sleeve shirts/underlayers but not gloves? Maybe it's just my age and I've grown up as it being acceptable

Plus heat leaves your hands easier than it leaves your arms.

Any footballer wearing gloves should be shot.

long sleeves are part of the standard kit, underlayers belong with carpets and not on adult footballers and gloves just unnecessary.

As for losing heat through your hands It's a slightly chilly day in Oldham not the Antarctic circle.

If Dave Brailsford was a football manager and his players preferred to wear gloves, we'd call it marginal gains - or one of Clive Woodward's 1% 'ers. I'm far more upset by a misplaced pass than a player wearing gloves.

Storm in a T-Cup for Woodward.

It's all part of the testosterone driven neanderthal macho bullshit that unfortunately still surrounds football. "Real men don't wear gloves". Fuck off. I don't give a fuck what he wears as long as he puts in a decent shift.

The only footballer that's bothered me with his glove wearing, was Zaaboub!

You'd be happy with our boys wearing Keith Weller 70's retro style tights then?

What happens if he's wearing a tiara and a tutu, and is stil shit. Would it be fair to associate poverty of performance with incipient transvesticism?

On the subject of gloves what I didn't get was Zaboub used to wear them in the spring but was quite happy going out in town in just a t-shirt. Strange cunt.

It depends. What if the tiara and tutu are part of next seasons Puma range?

Yeah, I do realise that was why. It bothered me because it used to make me sweat just watching him running around on hot days with them on.

Oh yeah, you're right. I think I probably read it was because of a skin condition on here. I should probably stop getting all my facts from here really, I have been awfully confused lately.

There was a referee in the Swindon Sunday League a few years ago who wouldn't allow anybody to wear gloves if they intended taking a throw-in!  On a very cold January morning I can assure you he got a little bit of abuse!

Bunny Uzzell that was Ronnie. He booked me once for not going to get the ball after I knocked it out for a throw

He did have aids though. He must have got better because my brain told me that in the past simple.
