Tonight at 6 pm, Lingy will be on, not sure about Power.  Radio Wiltshire.

I look forward to Hodgetts relentless, challenging questioning if Power is on. He makes Paxman look like Andy Peters.

Well that was a waste of an hour!  Either nobody contacted the BBC to ask questions or Hodgetts just wanted to hear the sound of his own voice, I suspect the latter!  :flaccid:

Unless you listen to BBC Wilts Radio - shudder - you wouldn't know there was a phone-in.

If you promote apathy that's what you get.

In this case he has a point, though I think the fact there hasn't been a game last weekend didn't help. We'd have probably heard it on BBC Wilts pre/post game last weekend.

I forgot it was on anyway.

It's called an opinion, numbnuts.

How about you offering an opinion on the phone-in or are you just like the others on here who never offer up anything.

TBH, I would think people would prefer to question Power than Lingy. Things on the pitch most people understand and accept, it's the club people want to know more about not the team.

IMHO, of course.

And what exactly is it you want to question? The club has bought a training ground, sorted the floodlights, last season they even sorted the PA system in the DRS. These are all things that not even Fitton and co achieved so demonstrate Power does spend money when and where it is required....
On the pitch people moan about the recruitment but low and behold suddenly now our players are returning to fitness we are winning games again, so maybe just maybe  the recruitment wasn't actually as bad as some make out...

Until I see a winding up order in the Gazette or evidence of financial wrongdoings somewhere then I'm willing to give Power the benefit of the doubt. So far during his time here from the outside it looks like the club is stable and building for the future, I even find his no bullshit approach with the media refreshing!

I'm intrigued. Which questions would people like to have been asked by Hodgetts and/or callers during this call in?

Just listened, seemed a fair enough hour to me. Quite enjoyed it.

My comment was aimed at SH not pushing Power for straight answers when he gives vague and flippant answers. I'm not surprised though, a combination of Advergate and the commentary going to Brunel Radio last time BBC Wilts showed some balls means he's in a tricky position.

Title: Re: Fans Phone-in
Post by: Skinny Pete on Friday, December 11, 2015, 21:52:04
I was surmising as to why no fans phoned in - not that I wanted questions answered.

You're right, everything has been asked -not all answered - so the phone-in has probably served its purpose.

If there is just one question I would like to know the answer to is who actually owns the training ground. And if not the club,  then does the club pay the owner a rent for a specified term.

Title: Re: Fans Phone-in

About the fact that unless you listen to BBC Swindon you wouldn't have necessarily known that there was a phone in going on as it wasn't reported anywhere, so the lack of callers/listeners will likely be diminished.  So his point on this was valid, not even many on here listened live as they either didn't know or forgot about it.

The fact that you lot are using this post to have a bleat about him being negative about everything is neither here nor there, I couldn't care less if he wants to be negative or you want to be positive, that's what forums are for.  His point in that post though was a valid one..

I'd like Power to provide more information on a few things:

Is the training ground to be owned by STFC ? if not then who owns it and what are the terms of the lease ?

When will a full set of accounts be released ?

Can the job role of the new sporting director be explained what is he responsible for ?

We have employed a new chief scout what exactly is his role within the club - i.e is it his responsibility to identify transfer targets or just check out opposition and report back ?

With the staff increase recently and the club being reported by yourself to have been breaking even and then the wage budget increased to allows us to sign Ajose & Thomas are we now making a loss by employing extra staff (coach, scout & director) and signing players with better wages ?

Are there any plans to use the money from Nigel Eady ?

Will you be looking at plans to redevelop the CG ?

What is this continuing obsession that a lot of supporters have with the training ground ownership? Why does it matter? I find it surprising when we don't even own the CG land. It's a good investment for whoever has paid for it, land always will be, so do I care if that's Lee Power, the club, Don Rogers or from Sir Seton Wills's loose change? No.

Reg will correct me if I'm wrong but has the club ever owned a training ground? Not Foxhills, not Calne, didn't we used to train on the Wills sports grounds and the other ones along Shrivvy Road that used to be there?

Correct we've never "owned" a training ground. In the same way we've never owned the CG. The nearest was a similar arrangement as that with SBC, with BR for the A Ground. Namely the structures built on it were the clubs, but the land rented.

The A Ground, had a small stand, floodlights and changing facilities....a great shame, that no-one (including myself) had the foresight to see that Thatcher would sell it of for housing and evict the club.

Then that would be self defeating as the higher overheads for the club would erode any operating profit he might make. Or turn it into a (funded by him) loss?

In answer to question 1 - I wonder whether it is owned by SALUBRITAS ET INDUSTRIA LIMITED - Company number 09897543 incorporated on 1st December - sole director a Mr L Power? Blue touch paper lit, I will now retreat a short distance and watch the following conspiracy theory shit storm  :girlgiggle:?

Or actually could be the amusingly titled POWER GENEVA LTD (company No: 09780370) incorporated 15th September 2015.

Registered at the County Ground - Directors Mr S Anderson and Deborah Louise Carney (any ideas?), Mr L Power resigned at a director on 10th November?

you make assumptions that the club doesn't have the funds, but it could have generated them by player sales and wage bill slashing.

technically that player sale money could be owed to Power as a ROI mind.

even I don't beleive this and so I find myself arguing for no reason..

said it before, we'll never triely know until power up sticks. which is what happened with the 'open era' of  black really - all rosy until one day...

The A Ground, had a small stand, floodlights and changing facilities....a great shame, that no-one (including myself) had the foresight to see that Thatcher would sell it of for housing and evict the club.

Curious. I didn't know that Maggie had hung on in power until 1997?

Quote
DDCS bought the site from British Rail in 1997 for £625,000, and since then Mr Slattery has submitted plans to rejuvenate sites such as the Cross Link centre and St Marks Recreation ground.

I do struggle to understand why raising concerns gets people's hackles up. It's really 2 sides of the same coin.

You either take Power at face value and that things are - relatively - rosy until it transpires they are not, or

You have concerns Power's lack of transparency is worrying until it transpires it is not.

Getting slagged as a serial moaner is as annoying as it would be if those who hold the 'rosy' attitude are constantly referred to as happy clappers.

If there is no room on here for different perspectives what is the point of it?

Along Shrivenham Road, towards Stratton past Wills Ave  and Copse Ave, then take that turn on the left. It was boundary between Swindon and Stratton. You had Martin Lynshaw's Boundary Works, where they made stadium seats, later a tyre sales place, then through the gates to A Ground, it was on a scrubby bit of land next to the railway....not exactly prime real estate or so it seemed.

I think, Mr. Audrey, you are just as guilty for slating people having an opinion. For example, my opinion is that you are a whingy bastard (which you are). I'm just as entitled to think you're a whingy bastard as you are to have your whingy bastard opinions. I have accepted, however, that you are probably an old git and that one day I will be a whingy old git bastard too. And thus the cycle of old git whingy bastards will continue.

I just hope Swindon are slightly better when it's my turn to grumble about them.

Therein lies the problem.

For some reason you have to resort to abuse yet I don't recall calling you a happy clapping bastard.

You stated in an earlier post that the club now own a training ground - we do not know if they do or who does and whether the deal is a good one for the club.

Also you stated the club is debt free - we do not know this to be true either as there are no published accounts to prove or disprove it.

That's what pisses me off - people making statements as facts when they patently are not.

I believe the rule on here is that anything is a fact as long as the author writes FACT after the post!

I thought the rule was nothing is a fact unless Ironside decrees it to be.

Ah, I stand erected. My concerns are, therefore, now deemed erroneous.

Probably time for me to call it a day.

Hope you all have  a good Xmas and you and yours keep safe in the coming year.

I've never deleted my account due to anything said to me on here. I know that doesn't fit the attention seeking, hissy fit label that usually gets bounded about but that is the fact of the matter.
