Title: The effect of the media ban
Post by: Skinny Pete on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, 18:43:57
So, 2 weeks since a game, zero news from the club.

Is this really what Power wants with a struggling team with dwindling support. It's at times like these that the local media could/should be using the fragile feel good factor with our recent upturn in results to encourage fans to return to the CG.

Does anything appear on Fanzai or is it the heap of shit many thought it would be?

Fucking strange way to run a business

It's his money, so it's upto him how he runs his business.

Maybe so, but seeing as he says the success or otherwise of said business relies on 7000 plus attending but gives the appearance of not giving any encouragement to his 'customers' to attend he can hardly be surprised if they don't fucking bother.

Couldn't imagine any other business using this as a model

What do you want to read about then? Bearing in mind that there may well actually just be no news to report on.

They've finally got round to installing some new floodlights. That's reportable

Have you looked at the press reports from same periods last season and the season before? Both we suffered 1st round cup defeats so had free weekends....

I would imagine you'd find very little in the press either in either of those 2 corresponding periods or anytime where we've had free weekends in fact.
If there is no news then there is no news, unless of course you just make stuff up as the Adver seem to do a lot of the time anyway.
Ultimately the press ban has had little to no impact on us, the struggles on the pitch are the reasons for our 'dwindling support'. Crowds drop when teams struggle, when we had Hart in charge our crowds were mid to low 7k then so nothing new.

On my fanzai at the moment is a Nathan Thompson post saying 'buzzing for this one last night, form is temporary class is permanent'.  With a picture of him and his brother.

Im not sure its that up to date.

It's an old football cliche, that you're as good as your last result, so we've been able to bask in that somewhat, had it been on the back of the Fleetwood result, might have been different.

I now think of Second Round weekend, as our annual mid season break...

Had totally forgotten about the media ban.

That probably sums up its relevance for me

I on the other hand don't read as much about the club as I used to.

probably partly because Morsehead used to do a good job, and I don't seem to catch ASDs posts on twitter as often. partly because there isn't much to read on the adver site.

not sure the club lose out though.

floodlights or floodlight bulbs?

hope it's the latter, I like our floodlights.

It's not just the bulbs, it's the lighting units. All the old square units have been removed and each pylon now is home to 10 new round units that throw out a ridiculous amount of light. Bearing in mind the previous floodlights were installed during Hoddles reign, this upgrade is long overdue, and only happened after pressure on the club from the Football League. Either way it should brighten up The County Ground on these cold winter Tuesday nights.

I've seen moaning for moanings sake but this takes the piss.

Ps can we stop calling it a fucking ban? There was/is no ban.

This can't be right, it would require the club spending money (quite a lot I would imagine) which some would have you believe doesn't happen....

£250K is the rumour I heard.

OK, shit comms/PR from the club. Valid point in general, though that horse bolted over the summer. Not much to say at the moment.

Oh wait, NT had a groin scan today, hoped if all is as expected he's still on track to make Christmas or New year games.

Fuck me, that's mental if true. Presumably we HAD to do it to meet regs rather than just a bit of pressure - think I read speculation to that effect on here before that we were below the stated min lux. Buggered if I'd voluntarily blow 1/4 million on some bulbs and tinfoil anyway.

I'd forgotten about it too, but now I'm excited for the next game under the floodlights :)

Scoreboard next?

Haven't we got a new scoreboard? Or is that just my eyes?

Weird, I was stuck in traffic on Drove Road last night and the floodlights were on and I noticed quite a few bulbs not working on the lights by the Town End.

Perhaps the new ones are so super bright that you need less of them. Hence it looks like some are missing.

Or they've blown already. Blood Wilko value bulbs.

Only one more Tuesday night home match this season unless we get some postponements due to the weather. Doncaster on 1st March  :(

It's new but it's not been working. The other week the time was actually going backwards.

I'm surprised by the lack of evening fixtures but there will be postponements, plus it's dark enough for floodlights on Saturdays this time of year :)

When the scoreboard used to switch itself off during games the guy behind me said it was because the floodlights had been turned on. Let's see what happens on Saturday with the potential increase in requirement from the grid for the new bulbs.

The whole of Old Town will brown out?

Always thought the floodlights were powered by a generator somewhere in The Town End?

Nah generators are noisy, you'd hear it in there ;)

There is a small building housing the floodlight generator at the end of the Don Rogers, opposite the back door of the club shop.  Only used in emergency.
