What are they going to do? Prop up a mobile phone on speaker in the dugout so he can dial in his touchline instructions from Geneva? That'll upset the "passion" bloke behind me - "Look at that mobile, just stood there leaning against the dugout, no passion, no inspiration"

Only reason for Power to be in temp charge is if Williams has gone as well as there are no other coaches. Unless he genuinely has put himself in charge in front of Williams which would be a real worry.

In terms of managerial ability, Evans all day long. But he's a fat odious odourous prick. Whereas Sherwood has a body warmer.  Hmmm.

Then again, Twitter's DP Hunt suggests Kevin Nolan player/manager. Not entirely sure he's not just pulling a Lomas though. Edit: Yup - total chain yank

RE: Sherwood. Within modern times, you simply don't go from managing a Premier League side to dropping down to League One at one fell swoop. Too much pride.

Sherwood's friendship with Power has resulted in approximately no favours loan players during 2015-16 and if they truly are best pals then why jeopardise this with working together is tough circumstances?

Steve Evans might be a candidate. Ugh, we're hardly the most loved football team out there. Imagine that. Shudder.

Hard to imagine what anyone else can do unless they are some sort of miracle worker that can get the guys who are out injured fit and back on form sharpish.

Shame really but he never addressed our shit defending did he and he's had long enough to do so. Lets hope the next guy can fix that at least and stop us being a soft touch and at least make the players try harder.

Not too much to ask for is it?  :hmmm:

Title: Re: Cooper gone!
Post by: THE FLASH on Saturday, October 17, 2015, 21:18:12
The manager 'by default' has gone.

I for one am not unhappy, never liked him. I wouldn't of changed that opinion if we would of somehow scabbed victory over PNE and gone up.

Inability to change games, baffling formations and the attitude to fans that for me sometimes bordered on contempt. I will never forget that abortion away at a piss poor Blades two seasons back....fans disrespectful? Fuck off! I think the shit he got at Peterborough has a big bearing on that....but I paid for my season ticket, away tickets, fuel, food and booze to follow my beloved Town.....so I don't give a fuck!
I don't expect PDC but I expect a bit more.

The injuries (and THEY are bad) have exposed another weakness in his armoury....inability to motivate and lift the players he has left. You could see from space that the players v PBoro seemed to be going through the motions because they had to, rather than because they wanted to.

Great season last year? Well very nearly. But the limp display at Wembley seems to have set an example for this season.....and we had better players then.

He deserves however, to leave with his head held high, unlike Malpas and Hart.

When other managers have been ousted it strangely filled me some excitement but not this time....I really am concerned about this season and beyond. We are on a knife edge from disaster at the minute.

Time will tell and by doing this now, we do have the luxury of six months to fix it. I have everything crossed.

Cooper was in the job far, far longer than most of us ever expected when he was appointed.

However, I fear that 2013-14 and 2014-15 will go down as seasons where we'll look back and say that we really should have done better.

Guess now we will see how much say Power had anyway if not much changes?

Yeah that's the thing that always worried me with Cooper: never quite sure how much of our success(ish) last couple of seasons was down to him. The fact remains though that during his time as manager Swindon have played some of the best football I can remember.

However, regardless of injuries, last few months has seen some of the most passionless, unimaginative and generally resigned football I can remember us playing (certainly since Hart), so regrettably it was definitely time for him to go. 79 minutes without a single shot on goal vs a struggling Millwall side is a bloody joke.

Got to say that this is a rather strange decision by Cooper (if it is a resignation) as yes we have had bad results but the current injury situation would leave many managers in the deep doodah. Cannot see that Mr Power is going to work miracles in the short term and anyone who takes the job on has real difficulties until the end of November at least.

Oh well the usual STFC roller coaster ride is up to speed once again.

Very disappointed and sorry to see Mark Cooper go. I think that he was part of a team at the club that has done very well over the last year or so.

I think he has conducted himself well and I am only sorry that he departs when his stock is low. I guess it will make it difficult for him to find another job in the near future. Its a shame that he didn't go at the end of the play off debacle. His stock would have been high and all would have wished him well after us having a better than expected year - which admittedly tailed away badly towards the end of the season.

There are always Mongs (with a capital M) around that bad mouth everyone and are unrealistic in their expectations. Unfortunately, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

It wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Darren Ward brought in. It also wouldn't surprise me to find out that the change at the top was scheduled to take place in a couple of weeks time, but Cooper left earlier than Power anticipated. But maybe I have been watching too many conspiracy theory programmes!

I'm surprised at the timing, with a game on Tuesday night, but something had to change.
Whoever the new manager is the first thing he needs to do is teach the players how to defend, at least make them difficult to beat because at the moment they are a soft touch.

As for Cooper, he did a decent job but did appear unable to adapt. Our defending has been poor for months (including last season) but nothing has changed. That might be because he was told to play that way, if that's the case then nothing will change but we won't be in a worse position.

One thing that didn't help cooper was his insistence in almost every post match interview to say we played well, even though it was obvious to most that we had been awful.

Title: Re: Cooper gone!
Post by: LittleRed on Sunday, October 18, 2015, 08:06:32
I believed cooper has walked. I don't believe power would have sacked him and risk paying him off. Cooper seemed a beaten man at the end and people could tell he was talking through gritted teeth. I'd imagine Williams will not be too far behind there is no real reason Williams could not have taken temporary charge even if he was uncomfortable with it. If this was powers decision surely you have someone lined up to come in. Also any new manager worth while would surely want input and financial backing something again powers would not have wanted. All in all I think cooper leaving and the circumstances leaves us in a bad situation, wrong end of the table, a lot of players out, I'd imagine not a great deal of money available and a chairman that wants to control a lot of aspects. Who is gonna want that job. Cooper has walked, the situation was doing nothing for him or Swindon.

Title: Re: Cooper gone!

I believe that with the players we have (and considering how many are actually available), a change of management will achieve nothing. We have no battlers, no size or strength, and very little quality or creativity.

Title: Re: Cooper gone!
Post by: michael on Sunday, October 18, 2015, 08:28:11
Whilst I am sympathetic to the circumstances behind Cooper leaving, I think he'll probably do alright out of it. He'll get another L1/L2 job on the back of the success he had last season, and he'll possibly have a more conventional role in that too.

To quote the man himself, "We go again".

It should be remembered that basically last season's side was sold/recalled and this season's team has been replaced with players who are clearly nowhere near the talent of last season. Getting L.Thompson and Gladwin back on loan is only papering over the cracks. Yes we've been very unlucky with injuries but to not keep a stable side from one season to the next isn't going to make the manager's job particularly easy.

Title: Re: Cooper gone!

The players we do have show very little desire or fight. Cooper had to go for that reason in my opinion.

little disappointed with Coops going. Liked the bloke and always came across well on interviews etc. Who cares if he's not a shouty manager. his approach worked last season but the inept chairman who has sold the organ grinder and brought in monkeys to try and replicate last season has no way worked. As bob's orange states changing the squad to the extent we have will only make the managers job harder. Then injuries makes it near on impossible when you have the players we do.

Power being in charge for tuesday only highlights that he has been in charge all along if he's gone over Williams to appoint himself. clearly has no confidence in his own staff.

i just hope he has someone lined up who will bring some fans back and not some of the names being put forward. Some names are embarrassing to say the least

Cooper did sound like he had given up. Imagine after game yesterday power said to him what the hell was that performance. And cooper replied, what do you expect with the rubbish players you signed. For a manager to practically write off the up coming games until we get some players back is hugely defeatist. We all recognize the injuries we have. What is interesting is are we allowed under power to change the style to try to scrap results ? In summer cooper said he wanted more steel in the side this season. We didn't get any. Young players in past have been on radio saying how great it is to play along side an experienced player, that they are learning from them. That's not happening now. We lack leaders. Youngsters don't have people to look to. The balance is all wrong in my eyes. We sign technical players. But no ball winners. There is no guidance on the pitch for the youngsters to look to. And sadly they didn't have a manager to look to either. I think power has gone to far in the tippy tappy football model. He needs to get in a manager who players will look up to and respect. Someone who will motivate and encourage. But importantly he needs to bring in someone and let them do it their way. A manager should fail be his own decisions, not from the chairmans. Always felt a name manager suits out club. Fans like it and it's worked for us. Kevin Nolan not a bad shout as he can play and guide those around him. Club needs a voice, a leader. Over to you mr power to do what's right for stfc and find a new manager and let him manage.

while there has been online criticism of him I'd say the match day crowd have been extremely muted given how things are going.

I'd put that down to a large amount of understanding of it not being all coopers fault

I also did this but didn't want to admit it until someone else did for fear of looking a bit pervy.  I concur with Bob and would say she is definitely better looking than Shaun Hodgetts.

Nothing yells out masculinity more than when a load of blokes objectify women on an internet message board for a third tier football team.

I am deeply manly.  I watched rugby today.

Oh dont get me wrong; objectifying anybody is one of my favorite things. It helps me feel better about myself. In so many ways.

Indeed. I removed the cork from my good lady's wine bottle for her this evening.

I've seen more testosterone in a prostate removal surgery survival forum.

Is it possible to remove the prostate?

Is that some kind of metaphor?

People seem to be upset about the statement but I'm not sure why? What were they expecting?

seems a fairly normal statement. in fact hoping to appoint by the end of the month, and ruling power out was more than I expected.

I guess people were wondering why Williams didn't step up, but I'm sure that'll be more apparent as time goes on. I'm assuming no news simply means he didn't fancy it or wasn't deemed suitable, but is still doing his thing.

No, but I did pop her cork for her later on if that satisfies your daily metaphor quota?

My issue with this whole thing is that I feel Lee Power is just using the club as a shop window for making money. He buys in good players on the cheap and sells them at a profit for what I can see is just personal gain.

Any success on the pitch is a by-product of this process and not the main driver. He talks a good game about training grounds, re-development and sustainability as a club which is all well and good but fans want success on the pitch ahead of anything else.

Maybe I am missing a point, maybe he is in it for the long term and we will follow other successful clubs into the championship but on a more sustainable footing. Who knows ??

Until the revolution comes and we nationalise football, surely that's the same as any owner?

Well I am thankful that I was tempted back to the CG a couple of years ago when I heard about the lovely passing football, whatever the contribution that Cooper made.  I hope he does well if he manages to get proper control of another club, and show how good he really was ( or not).

I like Power just for the fact he says at 3mins 10 secs in on the above "I played Fucking twelve years"

:D I thought I heard him say that as well but it sounded a bit muffled when I heard it the first time.

He's not just talking a good game regarding the training ground. That's actually happening. Players like good facilities and it shows we're taking this football thing seriously.

Yeah I am mortified. All because I am not 100% comfortable with Power's intentions for my club ?

Wish I was under the age of ten - then I could talk to Steveg in the playground. What a clown.
