Title: What pubs for Oxford?
Post by: Jayk on Sunday, October 4, 2015, 19:40:38
Where is everyone heading pre-match then? Considering there's fuck all near the ground I assume we'll be in the centre?

I'm heading to the Glue Pot in Swindon before I get the coach down, but if you fancy a treat in Oxford, there's a hidden pub called the Turf Tavern, located down a tight, high walled alleyway in a side road off the City Centre.

Went there on my 21st pub crawl, the in house ale they make is quite something.

Here's a pic of said alleyway.

Ha, good ol Reg Hollis. The bloke didn't have a clue.

They ruined the bill by bringing it back. Just wasn't the same,

I can't help but be suspicious of a post asking where we'll be in Oxford or how we're getting there at what time by an account that has registered to ask that one question.

Are you Oxford in disguise?

I believe its more likely that this one has had Mr Camerons old chap in his mouth.  Squeal piggy.

Signed up in January 2014 mate, and no, I'm not Oxford or DCI Slater in disguise.

Do Police usually post on here around derby days then? Any previous examples of this?

I can remember similar threads when we played them before.  Not conclusively police but seemed a bit odd that all of a sudden newbies were on asking where we were going to be.

It might seem weird that I've just started posting now but I'm being genuine here, just want to know where to drink with our fans beforehand. I can imagine TVP will be on top of any trouble anyway.

They won't be on top of any trouble that starts in the City Centre. It's a night game, if there's trouble in the air and there will be it will almost be impossible to police. Managing trouble at the stadium is a given but that's the only place they get a true handle of things. If you don't want no trouble my advice is to stay clear of any boozers in Oxford and go straight to the game.

TVP will be all over the city centre in the afternoon, make no bones about it

They're confident they'll hit just under 9k including us.

This will be only the second time in history, whereby we've played Oxford and been complete underdogs.

The first time was April 82....we were on our way to Div 4 for the first time ever and Oxford were starting to piece together a decent side.  Our side was a mixture of kids and punts on the future, with little experience.

We got beat 5-0. I missed it  :), being out of the country, but saw the previous home game losing 1-5 at the CG to Uddersfield, who didn't finish a whole lot higher than us, a performance I'd rate as one of the worse I've ever seen.

We still managed 52 points mind, but in classic Town fashion, did it in one of the rare seasons it wasn't enough.

Surely we were underdogs for the "smoke-bomb-gate" game ?
And we turned 'em over then !

But doesn't the hoolie code state 'thou shalt not bring thy violence to bear upon those saddos clad in thine enemies colours'?

Neither wearing colours or going 'naked' has saved me in the past.

Oxford city centre is a mecca for tourists. There's loads of pubs you can have a beer in safety.

Just stay off the Cowley Road and you'll be fine. Lads will be looking for lads, but there'll be a lot drunk wannabes about so stay safe 😎

Just leaving now, probably be in the Glue Pot for a cider or beer. I'll be on row Y at the Kassam.

Is the ground big enough to go that high in row letters (or is it sat on the coach roof in the car park behind the goal!)

Don't mock their ground, someone might take a fence

Row Y? Perhaps they now have a trellis on top of the fence.
