Take a wander down the back streets for off the beaten track shops, bars & eateries. Doges Palace is a must. Go to St Mark's Square around 7 or 8am to have it to yourself. Nightmarishly packed during the day. Grand Canal cruise is excellent and maybe a ferry to some of the outlying islands e.g Tchaikovsky's burial place.
Venice is simply stunning! Title: Re: Post by: STFC_Chris on Sunday, September 27, 2015, 16:18:01 Take the train from the mainland. Arriving at the station and walking straight out to the grand canal is the way to do it, not the big car/coach park.
I'll second the suggestion of the smaller islands. Murano and Burano are worth the boat trip, far fewer people around. Title: Re: Venice. Post by: Bathtime on Sunday, September 27, 2015, 17:01:07 Totally agree that any visit to Venice should include arriving by train - a must - if you want to get away from the people wander behind the station area - no yellow signs - just walk about getting lost. Otherwise get the water bus and do a circuit getting off where ever - don`t bother with a map impossible to follow.
