Title: Now TV Sky Sports passes
Post by: ChalkyWhiteIsGod on Monday, August 24, 2015, 12:23:40
Anyone know of any deals on this at the moment? I'm aware of the £6.99 day pass at the moment but looking to see if anything better. I know Carling were giving them away with crates before.

If not might just look for a deal on eBay.

I occasionally buy a weekly pass.

I see they now offer a monthly one,  too, for £31.99

If you buy a roku box (they are the exact same build as the NowTV ones) and root it you can get pretty much whatever you like.

Now TV box = more configured/shafts rooters
Roku = Totally open source

All those premium channels... ahem  :flaccid: >:D

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you "root" it?  I am interested in buying one and doing this "rooting" malarkey.  Also, which one is the best one to buy?

I would love to stop paying Sky a million pounds a month!

I have BT TV, quite happy with the package, especially with them having the UCL.

For my sky needs, I have SkyGo (thanks to my parents) which I load on my Mac in the bedroom.. lovely.

I cancelled my Sky a few weeks back. It was like closing my Facebook account, it made me feel all warm (and smug).

I've not seen anything on Sky I can't get elsewhere for free. And I noticed in my planner it's only terrestrial I'm recording and/or watching, so let's see how it all pans out.

What did you go with?

What did you go with?

Just Freeview, Netflix and Amazon Prime, the latter 2 I use much more than Sky anyway. Been with Sky for about 10 years, they didn't really even try to keep me, not that they could have tbf - I don't want free Sky Sports (to not watch) or movies made in 1996.

If I want any telly/films that sound good, I'll just download it.

I wouldn't bother buying the "latest" ones. They'll be do able, but will have more security/anti hack protocols on them. You're better off getting one of the early models so a Roku or a Roku 2. Try ebay or even a charity shop as these are likely to have been untouched. If you know basic electronics, then they are pretty easy to figure out. The circuitry is pretty basic. After that it then comes down to programming and knowing "a little bit more" than basic code.

If you've a little a patience, it's surprisingly easy to do  :)

I can barely change the clock in my car, for that reason, I'm out.

Likewise, I ditched subscription TV about a year ago. I hardly ever turn on the freeview box anymore unless there's something I want to watch live. It's usually just Netflix.

Anybody not purchased one of those loaded Amazon fire TV sticks that are used to illegally stream basically anything?
