Title: Southend United Vs Swindon Town - Matchday Thread
Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Saturday, August 22, 2015, 07:41:53
Ok so... seeing as no one else has done one.. here goes..

Little known fact: Southend is in Essex, which is actually in England.

I'm going for 1-3 today, Rodgers, Byrne & Robert.

Southend's twin town is Sopot on the Baltic coast in Poland. Town win 3-0. Stewart hat trick. 5,013. 763 from Town.

Half hour down the road from me so I always look forward to this one. Unfortunately, poor planning means I'm in Portugal. Will spend the afternoon in the sun following Twitter. 3-1 win and no penalty conceded.

Today should give a better indication where we are heading. Hoping for no penalties and less than 2 conceded.  A gentle unexciting 2-0 would do me.

Roots Hall, has historically been a bit of an STFC graveyard.....but we won there 4-1 last time. That side went on to win Div 4, so was a decent indicator.

This current side is still very much a work in progress, so anything could happen.....

For a team with one fit striker,we seem to be scoring freely, eight in three is impressive. Midfield to fire again and a 2-1 win. Wonder if there will be a cameo late on from Jordan Stewart?

The former caused by the latter. While people continue to throw money at a demonstrably shite service, there's no incentive for them to improve the quality of it.

Why is our game always one of the last to finish.

I noticed this a long time ago....my theory being that because the football powers have it in for us, the refs are told to add on extra minuites when we're winning. Most games seem to get 3 or 4 mins, quite often we get 6 or 7.  Tuesday being a prime example.

First half was dull but we passed the ball well without looking threatening. Neither keeper had anything to do.

Second half was better, Byrne drove forward and slipped in Robert who finished with aplomb. After that it was a bit backs to the wall, Southend missed a sitter and Vigoroux made 2 excellent saves to keep us in it. The ref played 9 minutes of injury time for some reason but we held out.

I was impressed with the work rate of the whole team in very hot conditions. The midfield were excellent, Traore probably my man of the match although Vigoroux deserves plaudits for his saves.

Sadly Nothing really came off for Smith today despite working hard. Miles came on to a here's welcome!

New songs for Robert and Vigoroux very welcome!

we dug that one out! vigoroux excellent,Traore and Kasim superb in the middle.Williams looked shaky in the first half but defended heroically in the second.Thompson not missed at all.Smith worked tirelessy and did his fair share of defensive duties but couldnt seem to hold the ball up in the later stages.Byrne surging through the middle scared the living daylights out of them and did brilliantly for the goal.Robert is class and will be the next to go after byrne,ee do manage to unearth a few gems.Turnbull was a rock.Good crowd from us but, bloody hell, they should have beaten us.

Robert - use the "Rupert the Bear" song. Newcastle used it for Phillipe Albert a few years ago.

Vigoroux - use the "Figaro" song. Always nice to inject a bit of opera...

Surely the Vindaloo song is a better fit for Vigoroux...

We got a keeper from Liver-pool
He's Swindon's num-ber one
He's eats his curry so very hot
It gives him a, sore bum..
Vigo-roux, Vigo-roux
Vigoroux, Vigoroux, nah, nah

To the tune of 'long haired lover from Liverpool':

'Weeeeee've got a loan goal-keeper from Li-verpool...'. Can't be assed to go on.

Well done to the Town fans who attended, but I thought that was a shit turnout numbers wise tbh. Southend seafront was rammed. What a beautiful day. I managed to have a paddle before the game.

timlin should have been sent off for a 2 footed challenge on branco but showed a nice touch by applauding the town fans at the end.i remember he was always the first to acknowledge us dutring his spell at town

I agree adje, but to be fair it did cross my mind that Kasim might see red for a similar challenge late on but he got a yellow as well so at least the ref was consistent. On reflection he was actually quite reasonable.

Also agree that Timlin acknowledging the Town fans was a nice touch.

Making up songs for players is fine and I'm all for it but some of my favourites are the spontaneous ones. Such as, leaving the ground yesterday...

"We kept a clean sheet, we kept a clean sheet, how shit must you be, we kept a clean sheet!"

Self deprecating, simple and amusing - good work

Poor Timlin spent the summer of 2011 being publicly positive over PDC's appointment and lasted one game.

Familiar, to the point, easily implemented.

You'll rarely get anyone singing along where there is anything approaching "lyrics" or a "new tune".

Yeah I actually meant they got their new songs yesterday. The Robert one was inspired.

I can't actually remember the Vigoroux one now!

And the passengers at Liverpool Street were lucky enough to hear it from disembarking, possibly slightly sozzled, London Reds yesterday evening. They seemed to enjoy it

The Vigoroux song was to the tune of baby give it up by kc and the sunshine band.

Simple, yet effective and LV seemed to be very happy at the end when it was belted out to him.

Now I'm confused. Weren't the Town End using that song for Nathan Byrne against Bradford?

I'm sure I heard "Na!Na!Na!Na! Na!Na!Na!Na! Na!Na!Na! Nathan Nathan Byrne, Nathan Byrne, Nathan Nathan Byrne!"

What's the Vigoroux one?
