Title: 'Big Swindon Town Survey'
Post by: Sam Morshead on Thursday, June 4, 2015, 16:17:23
Evening all,

I know (many of) you like a survey - either to ambush or honestly contribute to - so thought I'd post this here. We're running what we're calling, originally, the 'Big Swindon Town Survey' about various aspects of the club, on and off-field, to gauge supporters' thoughts during the off-season and obviously the larger sample pool the better.

So, if you're interested, here's the link: http://totalswindonsport.com/2015/06/the-big-swindon-town-survey-your-say-on-stfc/

It's open for votes til next Tuesday, June 9. Thanks in advance for taking part.

Sam

Interesting, wonder why that is. Does it block other news sites? I'll mention that to those who know how we might get around it.

We block it as our web filter categorises it as a parked domain;

Have brought this up with the people who can get stuff done this end to see what we can do to change that. Thanks for letting me know.

It blocks almost everything annoyingly (think your whole site actually)

I got invited to a wedding and the couple had created a website called www.steveandjoanne.co.uk (names not used to protect the innocent) and I couldn't get on the site as it was blocked because of pornography!

Stupid over sensitive bank!

Having realised I'm in the 26-40 age category, I'm not sure I have the will to continue

EDIT: I continued anyway. What a ridiculous question this one is!

"Where do you think Swindon will finish in League One in 2015/16?"

Ask me again in 2 months

Thanks for persevering! With regards that specific question, the idea in mind is to ask the same question again just before the start of the season and see how the answers change.

Done!

Some of those questions are a bit ambiguous in intent.

E.g.Do you think Swindon could support championship football? Now? With investment? Ever? Within 5 years??

Yep, agreed that one in particular could have been worded better and perhaps should've said 'Swindon, with its current business model'. Sadly, once one person has voted it would be unfair to rephrase the question. I can promise none have been worded with intent to cause problems, though, and the results to date have been very interesting (around 800 polled so far).

Oh OK, I voted yes but I can't see it in this model. So, erm, sorry.

Realise it wasn't done on purpose BTW :) Sometimes these things are only obvious after it goes live!

Yep, that was in retrospect an oversight and we'll mention that when we do a piece on those particular results. Out of interest, which others did you feel the same way about?

We will certainly offer full details of the results to the club to have a look at. As for what we'll do with them... there'll be a series of pieces starting on Wednesday next week reflecting on the results and concluding with a full rundown on Monday, June 15 - the day before the Capital One Cup draw and two days before the fixture release.

Been away for a couple of days, taking the better half away, so will be back at it tomorrow. There's going to be lots, I'm sure.

I'd like to see one of these surveys ask "how many town games have you been to in total" Don't know why, ego I suppose :)

Do bear in mid some people lie to pollsters

I had my 60th birthday yesterday but still didn't want to describe myself in the over 60 group and might not want to for a few years yet

I would also choose a formation after knowing who the players I had available were.

How would you rate the club’s engagement with the community?
I assumed this to include through FITC in general as well as player appearances.

Do you trust the current regime at the County Ground?
I assumed this meant specifically boardroom (Power) and not coaching/management staff.

Do you want to see Swindon’s style change next season?
I'd like to see them retain a passing style in general, but mix it up a bit at times (more direct, also change to formation *at times* - so voted yes, but its not retaining exactly the same style!

that's it really

I don't want to 'piss on Sam's barbecue' but his poll lets you do multiple entries!  I only submitted one myself, but there may be some trolls out there amongst the 800 he mentioned earlier which would make the results meaningless.  :hmmm:

I think the loan player question was a bit misleading. I know technically Louis is a loan player but, all this season I viewed him as one of our own. I therefore voted for The Gruffalo in that one.

No, because 40% of us don't feel valued.

No, because 40% of us don't feel valued.
I certainly didn't at Wembley.....I'm surprised it's only 40% actually because most players really couldn't give a toss about fans and clubs only "value" them when they realise that attendances are going down and they feel the need to butter them up in order to encourage a few more through the turnstiles.

Having said that, it works both ways - it most be so frustrating for the Town management to have such comparatively shit support with the entertaining football on show over the last couple of seasons. And it's not down to cost either - Swindon's attendances have been mediocre throughout the 35+ years that I've been supporting them. When I first started I think I paid 70p to get in and the average attendance, in the old 3rd Division, was, guess what...7975 - almost identical to this season.

You're referring to the 80s when football attendances were at an all time low throughout the country.

Apart from a couple of periods when the attendances were significantly higher (12-18k average, and even one season where they averaged over 20k)  they've been pretty consistent since 1921......

Yeah you may recognise my face. Had less moss on my chin then but I worked on Agnes from 2003 - 2010 at Troytown. I finished working not long after Sam moved back to take over his dads farm.

Brilliant years, loved every single minute of it. I would live and work there if possible.  Do you know Andy Smethurst and Declan Risdale?
