Title: Bike question
Post by: janaage on Monday, May 25, 2015, 16:55:07
Sorry chaps I did try and search for existing bike thread but couldn't find it. Happy to merge into that if necessary.

Anyway I'm about to go shopping for a bike, predominantly to go on bike rides with the kids and wife to start, though I'll probably start doing a bit more on my own too, as I get used to riding again.

Question is if I'm going to be towing the kids, probably only for 4 miles or so up the the south cerney lakes, what type of bike should I go for? A hybrid, mountain bike? Have no idea.  Appreciate any help!

Also any recommendations, only looking to spend £200 ish, as have to get my wife one too!

If you are towing kids then I'd go Mountain Bike, Hybrids IMO are jack of all, master of none.

Try Decathlon http://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-359112-mountain-bikes

No worries. If you look at the other cycling thread when anybody asks for recommendations of good value bikes Decathlon are always mentioned. Good value bikes and better than Halfrauds.

If you find yourself doing more roadie stuff you can all put less nobbly tyres on.

I've got a RockRider that's a few years old now. Great value for the money.

Was looking at those rock riders.  Just out of interest has anyone cycled with a kiddie trailor on the back! Is it noticeably tougher than normal cycling?

When my kids were proper tiny, the missus and I used to cycle, with them on kids seats on the back....I had the older one, she the younger....worked well for maybe what seemed like a couple of years, but could have been less, then they get too big, but not really big enough for proper cycling.....it was a good few years before we could all go out as a group.

As regards the seat and I guess it's a bit similar with a trailer, it's harder going, but the likelihood is you'll likely be doing it because you're a cyclist, and used to a bit of suffering.

I've got a top quality child bike seat and rack if anyone wants it

I was in the new Decathlon in Harlow the other day - very impressed with their range of B-Twin bikes.
Seemed great value for the spec.

Is B-Twin their own-brand ?
