Title: Flag Dilemma
Post by: Fowey on Thursday, May 21, 2015, 10:00:53

I have purchased an Iraqi flag in support of Yaser Kasim - my favourite player.

Should I either,

hold up the Iraqi flag in support of Yaser Kasim

or

Not hold up the Iraqi flag as it might offend.

Any views?

You need to get it in the ground first, but hold the damned thing up otherwise you just purchased an odd blanket for the day.

Firstly, this is a great idea for a new thread.

Secondly, he has about 15 friends & family coming from Iraq to support him with Iraqi flags. Are you Iraqi? If yes, go for it! Be proud of your countryman. If you're not, it's a bit odd IMO.

Paint STFC in white on the red bar on the flag if you want?

Why would anyone be offended by an Iraqi flag? As others have said, might seem a bit odd to some (esp if they don't recognise the flag/realise Kasim is Iraqi) but offended?

Anyone who gets offended by someone raising the flag of his or her country needs a kick up the arse. Unfortunately these people are all too common.

If US flags were fire-retardant, that'd deny thousands of photo opportunities around the world.

Thanks for all your comments.

I'm not Iraqi, but a massive fan of Yaser. I will try and find a way of putting STFC on the flag.

I will be holding the flag in Block 112 - I've just got to work out how to hold my mosaic tile up and throw my streamer at the same time. :)

Hundreds of years of chalk hill carvings and we go with a chicken looking creature.

None of Wiltshire's chalk figures are that old....the really old ones are Uffington (Berkshire) and Cerne Abbas (Dorset).  Some recent family history research, produced the interesting fact that many of my forebears were from Cerne Abbas.

The claimed but now disappeared hill figures at Foxhill, would have made an interesting flag emblem, mind.

There used to be a stuffed giant bustard at the museum in Devizes, which now seems to have cropped up in the museum at Salisbury.

Well, of course, time is relative, but the proper old hill figures are a couple of thousand or more years old, whereas the extant Wilts examples a couple of hundred.

I'd quite like Silbury Hill.....there's plenty of stone circles in the British Isles, but nothing quite as uniquely strange as the pudding by the source of the Winterbourne and Kennet.  OK, I'll give you the mesolithic pink flints found near Amesbury.

I am unsure if this has been answered as yet but, in order to get flags and instruments into the ground you have to declare it prior. It may well be in your best interest to contact stfc tomorrow to register your flag. Not sure though if this is on poles only or for draping over the hoardings

Flags more than 250cm in size at their widest or longest section will not be allowed and flagpoles greater than 1m in length will not allowed.

- Permission must be sought in advance from the stadium and event owner to arrange use of the very large supporter flags that are designed to be passed over people's heads. In such cases the flag must be flame retardant and the organiser bringing the flag into the stadium will need to provide the appropriate H&S certification

Quote
WEMBLEY have advised the club that they will not be approving any more flags wishing to be brought into the stadium.

If Town fans have a flag they wish to take with them and it is under 2.5 metres in size and on a pole made of wood or plastic, this will not need approval. However, if the flag is larger than 2.5 metres, it will not be allowed in the stadium.

Any smaller, 'hand waving' flags are acceptable providing they are not on a metal pole - this, again, must be either wood or plastic.

Should anyone wish to check their flag meets the criteria, please e-mail [email protected].

PLEASE NOTE: anyone attempting to enter the stadium with a flag of any size on a metal pole will have their flags confiscated.

Streamers are officially a no due to the mess they leave being a safety hazard. Good of them to get back to me on the Friday before the Sunday match.

This was the official response I got:
"How about coming and just singing and cheering!"

How about letting us create an atmosphere and show that Wembley isn't a corporate, boring mess that's a prime example of why fans have become disillusioned with football.

I went to the new Wembley once. It's was an anodyne experience. Plastic identikit bollocks of a place. They are only too happy for you to bend over and take your hard earned cash for the wanky produce they pass off as food and drink. Vowed never to go back after the one visit. Not surprised that their regulations prevent any form of 'alternative' celebration - sums the shit hole up really.
Good on you Jay for the efforts!

To be fair I think they mean a whole packet of polos (or any hard sweet really) as opposed to just like one of the little mints

With the right intent almost anything solid can be a pretty effective weapon!
