Title: Re: Tonight's footy

Is it any wonder that referees make so many mistakes in this day and age? The old honest Footballers have been replaced by modern day whinge bag con artists.

Did anyone see the red card that the Wolves player got sent off for on Saturday? The Watford player is a pure cheat and should be banned for 15 matches for feigning being headbutted.

In last night's match Januzaj's dive was nothing short of pathetic and why was Rooney in the referees ear for every decision, stupid phallus.

I don't really care much about Yeovil, and have given up any hope of finishing above City. It'd be lovely to go up with them on 1/5 of their budget though

Title: Re: Tonight's footy
Post by: 4D on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, 00:09:23
I remember many moons ago, me and three mates went to Yeovil to watch chippenham in some cup game or whatever. There wasn't segregation and we sat in the stand that's to the right of the away end. We made it obvious that we were supporting chippenham. A few wurzels starting looking back at us from a few rows in front, and one of the more yokel/vocal ones shouted.....

"why don't you piss off back to Dorset"

:idiot:

At the start of the season I had us down as relegation candidates. To finish in the playoffs would be a superb effort. To finish 2nd would be quite simply remarkable. Unlikely to finish above City who lets be fair have been the most consistent this season.

This. Although I care a little more about Yeovil only because I have quite a few mates that are fans, living down here that obvious really.

They are hating this season :D I should be winding them up more than I actually am but it feels a bit churlish because they are so very poor.

I bumped into a Reading fan last week, ended up having a good chat with him. He asked me whether or not we sings songs about them as, apparently, they often sing songs about us. According to him, and he goes to the Majedski quite regularly, rather a lot of Reading fans still see us as their main rivals.

To be fair, they used to.  Before Oxford existing (pre-1960ish), the Reading rivalry was taken very seriously...according to books I've read anyway.

I don't think it would make much at all for the rivalry to fire up if we had a few consecutive seasons playing in the same division again.

Noticed that our biggest fan, Parkinson, had a dig last night saying the game was between 2 honest teams and will not see some of the diving, timewasting and feigning injury of some teams.

Quite right, Parky, that is far worse than some of the tackles your lot were launching into, picking up bookings and a sending off.

Rather have players diving than trying to maim others.

I did laugh when Martin Keown commented when a substitute was coming on 'and he is taking final instructions from the assistant manager' - I assume that those instructions were if it moves kick it, and if it isn't moving just kick it to make sure!

Ryan Mason played for League One Swindon Town last year and last night he gets his England debut. Fantastic.

I still have to ask though, where in the hell is Austin? If Kane can get in the side based off of one decent half season then why can Charlie not when he's been scoring goals for fun for donkeys? Oh wait. Charlie doesn't play for a top 6 side. Therefore he doesn't 'deserve' it.

Saw the last 10 minutes last night and was actually quite happy with how we played, which is terrifying considering how atrocious it has been for a fair old while. Townsend/Kane/Walker/Mason all looked good. Can't help but feel there's a coincidence there...

Title: Re: Tonight's footy
Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, 21:50:17
Kane got picked ahead of Austin because he's got a far far better premiership record. It's not very complicated to understand. As much as the Austin fairytale is nice (and I still have doubts that Kane can maintain anything like this kind of form for most of his career), it's a pretty obvious one.

Title: Re: Tonight's footy
Post by: Abrahammer on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, 21:57:03
We are quite well off for strikers at the moment compared to recent years.

Austin is presumably 5th/6th in line, there is no way he could justifiably be picked ahead of any of the 4 strikers in the last squad unfortunately.

Unless, and call me crazy here, we use things like friendlies to try out different combinations of players. I am not a fan of Rooney, particularly as an England goalscorer (do not even try and use his scoring record as a defence here - he's scored most of his tally in games against much weaker opposition than the people he's being compared to, and has yet to make a proper difference in a tournament since the first euros he was in whilst still at Everton). In an ideal world (i.e. one where selling shirts wasn't as important as the football), he'd be dropped for games like this for a different option.

Similarly, I don't think there's much to be gained in letting a bunch of players from the same club spend precious game time together in Friendlies - they play together in their day jobs, so it's the interplay with the other lads in the team that's the issue, might as well make the most of the few chances they do get.

Title: Re: Tonight's footy
Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, April 2, 2015, 06:09:45
35 of rooneys 47 goals have come in competitive games. He might not score as many as we'd like at tournaments (although he is tied 1st as goalscorer at our last two, and was our best player in Brazil) but he is a large part in us qualifying for those tournaments so easily in the first place

The best striker we've got at international level is Wellbeck. Scores goals, works unbelievably hard at closing down opposition players, has intelligence and has the touch for international football. He'n nowhere near the best Premiership striker but by far England's best.

Title: Re: Tonight's footy
Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, April 2, 2015, 07:28:30
I love Welbeck he is not a great striker but works so hard in the channels, gets in scoring positions and set up a lot, is very unpredictable at times and sometimes misses easy chances but then manages to score regularly, I would pick him above any other England forward player.

If we win our three games in hand and beat them on Tuesday we'll only be 3 points behind them.
FUCK YEAH!

And they lose to PNE and we"ll be equal points.

I'd laugh me cock off we AND PNE both overtook them!

Anyway, it's always been about what we do

Exactly this we just have to go out and win games.
Mind you as always a few twists and turns will happen.
Tomorrow is massive though........just need to turn up and get behind the lads for 90 minutes.
If we can "support" like we did at Port Vale with less numbers then it can only lift the players.
Looking forward albeit a little nervous.

Sometimes there is more pressure on those looking over their shoulder than those doing the chasing.
Let's hope its the case for the the top 2

Tomorrow is a massive game. We have to win really. I'm hoping City take points off Preston a week tomorrow. If we can get 4 points from the next 2 we are still very much in it.

I see us drawing tomorrow, melt down on the cards, then winning at City

2-0 now. I just hope we can deny the 82ers the Championship by beating them tomorrow.

As it stands PNE only 5 pts behind the 82ers and yet to play each other

We can wave goodbye to 2nd, pretty much in the playoffs already though. Would love Preston to finish top instead of 82ers

I know where you're coming from, personally though I don't have the energy to be bothered. I think Saturday sucked it all out of me.

Let's put in a shift tomorrow to help it become reality!

City 6/5 v Swindon . Fucking good odds. Hate betting against but a great way to jinx it.

Love your positivity but am expecting the worst. I put a wedge on City at the CG ( call me a cunt obviously)  thus allowing us to win.  Trying the same trick.

A trip to Wembley and a double over the 82ers and I'll be happy (and no I don't expect us to get promoted this season).
