It might be a bit controversial but if we go up I hope they come with us. In second, obviously. They may be miserable entitled bastards, but they make things more fun. And at least they're slightly more of a real club than Franchise.

I actually agree to an extent, two games against the Salve traders, or two games against Franchise. Or a shit journey up north to Preston. Hmmm.

Its not like Oxford or forest green Rovers are going to be around for a while. Even if we don't go up.

That said, being the undisputed best in the West would also be good.

(long way to go yet though).

City fans 'all too regular' comments that need addressing.

1. Swindons lack of support.
2. Swindon will fade
3. Cheating etc
4. Lack of funds etc
-----------------------------------------------

1. Our home crowds are down on previous years but are still pretty good compared to most in this division. City's averages ain't good for a city of their size and 'ahem' success.
2. When?
3. When?
4. As far as I'm aware we are pretty stable. I'm very happy with my clubs set up.

The bottom line is, we are gatecrashing their 'god given right to the title' party.

Theres a city supporting driver at my place who comes in every morning giving it the big one, his latest is that he knows the wife of one of our directors who has told him that we are about to go down the shitter and there will be a fire sale of players. You cant make this shit up.

Id love to beat them to the title, an entire summer of meltdown for the shitheads. Beautiful.

I know a lot of the comments are incoherent and difficult to read, but the latest straw they seem to be clutching (since we beat them) is the amount of diving / play acting etc. Is this true? Or, perhaps we are actually a very skillful side who frustrate opposing players (and fans), inevitably bringing about rash challenges?

Both Williams and Obika could have gone down for a pen when rounding the keeper last night
Both stayed on their feet and had a go at goal,
Was mentioned last night on comms fair play to them for that esp Will who was on a hatrick at the time

My favourite was some fuckwit saying we were cheating because the Thompson brothers didn't have the letter L and N on their shirts to distinguish them so we could pull the wool over referees eyes.

The fact that both DO have the letters seems to have escaped him.

You'd have thunk that being 6 points clear of the 3rd placed club they would be pretty happy with things - apparently not

I think its the stab at the finances that grates me. Their chairman wiped off £35M and their losses are huge... all to play in League One.

IF we go up though, I'd rather they came with us. If we finish 2nd them I won't care, most people will be more impressed with us finishing 2nd than them finishing 1st and we've already had a lot of creaming over us in the media which seems to be getting stronger.

Cooper will win manager of the season if we come 2nd too, and rightly so. Cotteril wouldn't take us up with the budget we have! Long, long way to go yet. The imploding they've predicted for us for the last 4 months may well happen yet!

Yeah I know a couple of them personally and they are ok just a little angry on t'net.

In actual fact they are scared shitless of us getting promoted and them missing out.

In their words....we are in the same boat, you cannot help your allegiance with your football club, its either where you lived or were brought up or a family thing, NOBODY would choose Swindon or them over a Premier League team if you didn't have a connection.

We both support essentially middling to crap teams and can't help that.

More Swindon fans are posting now so that usually results in about 10 knee-jerk responses per post.

A lot of their posts are blown out of proportion by the time they're relayed on TEF but lots of them are really focusing on how Town are cheats, like Steve Cotterill's created some kind of 'Corinthian spirit'. Which is quite funny.

It's also interesting that since Power came out with the 'City's budget is 10x bigger' line, Cotterill has tried to downplay the size of their budget in reality... Like the rest of us in L1 are that stupid.

An independent view from a Preston fan

Gerry Gow, on 11 Jan 2015 - 15:10, said:

It's getting to the point where I think it's jealousy. Top of the league and having a chance to buy quality players.
If it isn't jealousy, what else is it? I'm interested.

Jealousy? Give over!

It's just the constant self back slapping you give each other over absolutely everything. It's fucking infuriatingly tiresome mate.

You all go on like you're Barcelona, when in truth, you're just a slightly above average League one side.

As someone else pointed out earlier, we had Wolves with us last season; they were by far the best team this division has probably ever seen, yet they were infinitely more modest about it.

There are ways to conduct yourself in all walks of life, and if you're constantly blowing your own trumpet at every opportunity and on every single fucking thread on the forum.....it's going to piss people off. Which we're now starting to see.

And just to illustrate my point, your reaction to it, is to come out with this quote, and dismiss it all as jealousy? Fuck off eh mate. Jesus Christ.

I've actually no 'beef' with Bristol City FC whatsoever, after all, PNE & your lot are supposed to have some sort of weird bromance going on but, by fucking Christ, your fans are testing my patience this season.

They are the gift that keeps on giving, surely there is a law about that many retarded people congregating in one place.

"Longer term though, should we both go up, how the Donald duck are Swindon going to maintain Championship status? They've got where they are through a very shrewd manager (who will inevitably be poached and not adequately replaced), exploiting the loan market (not sustainable long term) and cheating (for which they will be found out for at some point). In sum, they have got where they are by hook or by crook. All this on attendances of 6,000ish.

I don't know the ins and outs of Brentford or Rotherham but whatever is happening at those two appears to be entirely more wholesome than at Swindon.

They can not defy the odds indefinitely, I wouldn't have thought. Can they? "

Title: Re: Chin up
Post by: Batch on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 13:21:09
in fairness, I've no idea how we'd maintain Championship football either. I'd like to find out whether we could. Still not sure how we are cheating, and unwholesome mind.

That said, I've no idea whether City can sustain championship football either. Their recent history suggests that blowing £10M+ a season doesn't work for them. Who is to say our way isn't better. It's certainly cheaper.

Haven't seen any mention of this anywhere else but it was on Sky Sports yesterday.

Quote
Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill spoke to SSNHQ earlier, saying the club would struggle financially in the Championship if they were to go up. His side are currently three points clear at the top of League One.

“Our playing budget probably isn’t as big as a couple of teams in our league. Everybody will say ‘I don’t believe that’, but it’s a fact. We have a chief executive who speaks to a few people so we know what is going on.

"What has helped us is we have had some finances to go and cherry pick a few players. So we have been able to do that to buy some young players but then we have ended up getting that money back in and are in the plus column because we sold Sam Baldock, so thankfully that has worked out well in the end.

"We have been able to cherry pick our players but if we go into the Championship we would be struggling with what we are on that’s for sure.”

He does himself no favours by speaking out about "hard done by City" all the man ever does is whinge whinge whinge about everything not being fair.

Cotterill is an absolute weapon.

He remains our biggest hope. Everyone knows once he loses it, he really loses it. They just need a couple of losses, that are fair, and him berating a player or 2, and boom. Implosion. They're perennial bottlers, so we can but hope he helps with that as he uses his infinite capacity for going Full Cotterill and loses the dressing room.

Saldy, I don't think that'l happen. His team are very expensively assembled and I expect even Malpas could get them promoted.

Title: Re: Chin up
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 16:10:06
He deserves a bit more credit than that. He's spent but he's spent pretty wisely and they are a good team. They were camped out in their 18 yard box here and they defended very well until Smith took the piss out of them. It's quite interesting that they often state our methods of player recruitment as unsustainable.... And bringing in a core of journeymen is?? It's worked for them this year but I can't imagine Wilbraham, Elliott & co will be particularly effective in the champ whereas technically sound youngsters will probably fit in better.

It's all if's ands & buts anyway. I have no idea what will happen, and as much as I enjoy their random and completely midguided obsession with us at times I am much more worried about what we do.

Don't like them as a club though. Never have. Hope we win the title and they blow out and lose in the play offs. fuck em.

He always sounds defensive and looks like he's going to lose it any moment now.

Fear pure and simple, If he fucks up promotion for them this year, the best he can probably look forward to in the future is a return to Cheltenham.

Nice, Chesterfield play extra time - good news with Saturday in mind.

Slavetraders get to play another game. Hopefully they will be distracted by playing Everton or West Ham next week.

Just as a matter of interest, question to those who have managed to get to more games than me: is there any substance to the accusation of our players falling over too easily?  I heard that Swift had been accused last week at Fleetwood...but he has just come from Chelsea...  I saw nothing last night to suggest anything untoward; in fact, quite the opposite, as others have noted - a couple of occasions when it would have been easy to try to call a penalty, but they stayed on their feet.

Swift is a bit of a lightweight and has probably been taught the dark arts at Chelsea.

As for the rest, they are no better or worse than all the other namby pambys

If we did you'd have thought we'd have had a player booked for diving at least once over the last year or two and I can't think of a single one.

Thompson pretty much said in the post match interview he went down for the penalty when he felt contact but 99% of players would have done the same.

On the flip side Williams could have easily gone down when he had that chance for his hat trick but he stayed on his feet

Looked like he deliberately crossed in front of the defender then went down when there was contact. Nothing wrong with that, doubt many complained when Owen did similar against Argentina in the WC.

It is a fine line though.

The only real issue there was why the referee failed to issue 2 red cards...one to Nouble for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity, and one to the donkey centre half for stamping on Louis?

Nathan Thompson at Yeovil this season? Or was that for deliberate handball? But yeah, few and far between really.

The only question in that incident was how the Coventry player has escaped any sanctions after deliberately standing on Louis' nuts.

I can accept the officials missing it, but in retrospect . . .

One thing we do know is that many sides in this league will try to kick our young lads and intimidate them....you could see how Cotterill had sent his side out to intimidate with Elliot head butting Stephens after 90 secs...we know Elliot has previous, having ended Keith O'Halloran's career.

Earlier in the season we received an apology from the FA that referees were not being sufficiently watchful and protective of our ball players contrary to the current stated aims of the game to eliminate deliberate foul play.

Coventry had a bit of a go on Monday, 21 fouls conceded....Webster's stamp on Louis, but we've largely shown an ability to stand up to this shit and earn the right to play....the only thing I will say in favour of Franchise, is that Robinson's side does try and play the game properly, not in the dated style of Cotterill and Grayson.

U wot m8?

Back in November from Adver...

Quote
Mark Cooper revealed after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Franchise that the chief of referees had apologised to him for some of the decisions that had gone against Swindon Town in recent games.

Officials have been a bone of contention for the Town boss recently and he indicated they might have been again today, without revealing exactly why.

Kyle McFadzean was lucky not to be sent off after 30 minutes when he clattered Yaser Kasim and got booked. The Dons’ man should have been on a yellow already having scythed down Nathan Byrne in the build-up to Jonathan Obika’s opener, but was not reprimanded.

I thought he deliberately handled the ball because he assumed he would get a free kick from the 'push' in the back. Thompson was stupid for assuming the ref would give a foul for a push and for deliberately handling the ball.

That's the way I remember it as well. Thing is with Nathan he defends at 100 mph, and if he does get pushed/clipped, he only has a micro second before he hits the deck, and no time to think. if that makes sense?

Yes Nathan would have been stupid had he actually handled the ball. I think that's what the ref gave but I watched a few replays and couldn't even see him lay a hand on the damn thing.

The 82ers are hoping for a Bradford win tonight as that will mean another mid week game for us!!!

I have no idea how their brains work but we have the same amount of games left until then end of the season and whether we play on a Tuesday or Saturday does not make a jot of difference, selfishly I want Bradford to win tonight as I am going to see Korn/Slipknot on that Saturday in Cardiff and it is going to be a mad fucking rush getting there after the game.

I suspect the 82ers, will now lose interest in us, as they have bigger fish to fry in the form of West Ham....who they doubtless feel are more worthy of sharing a pitch with such a massive club.

Of course, the 82ers have never beaten West Ham.....the old club only ever managed 7 wins v The Irons, compared to our 16.

No reason why they shouldn't rearrange the Doncaster game as far as I can see. It would make sense for both teams as well. I know we have done this before. I remember a few years back (98/99ish) we brought forward a game at Bradford when both sides had been knocked out of the Cup.

I can sort of understand why we're keen to play, however it's another game without Yaser and Mass. Okay, we've done well without them and there's no guarantee (esp Mass) they'll be returning, but surely it's best to play this game when there's a chance you'll have a full squad to choose from.

You didn't sell your soul and go to the soulless plastic dump in November then?   It was as pre-meditated an attack on our players, Byrne in particular, as I've seen, both in its early violence and later repetitiveness, breaking the game up at every turn.  Shamefully and spinelessly refereed, I'm still just a touch bitter about it now.  Yes, they play football with some style and panache, but perlease, ready yourself to be venting at their cynicism come April.  In contrast, and to my surprise, I thought that this season's Preston model were meek as when it came to the dark arts when they visited.
