Title: 2014 was a very good year for STFC
Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 14:05:35
Just in case you were in any doubt about how good a year it was, here is the yearly table of wins/draws/losses in the Football League.

http://www.football-league.co.uk/documents/2014-stats549-2175141.pdf

For those who aren't able to open adobe files basically Wolves were top with 27 wins, Brentford & Derby 25 , Bournemouth & PNE 24 then us and our great friends down the M4 also on 23 wins.

That's some turnaround.

We have to cross the line in 2015.  We'll have been outside of the top 2 divisions for 15 years by the end of this season.  By any measure, it's time we made a return.

MC's appointment was, quite understandably, an underwhelming one when it happened.  But there's a lesson there.  Everyone deserves a chance.  We may need to remember that in future.

(As an aside, is Kevin McDonald still involved in football these days?  His departure still strikes me as a bit of an odd one.)

I would guess that, having been a coach for so long, he needed to at least have a go in 'the hot seat' to satisfy his own curiosity as to whether he could do it. As soon as his Scottish buttocks hit the afore mentioned hot seat, he decided he didn't like it and got out at the first opportunity to do what he is probably best at.

Just guessing...

Why?   We were quite happily in Div 3 for 43 years from 1920 to 63.....WWII excepted.

Maybe it's not happily now though? Would be nice to see us playing against 'bigger' clubs..

Well the title gives you a clue, that it has been a happy time....some good wins, achieved by some decent players.

Yeah absolutely, although it would take it to a new level being able to go up..

TBF, because of natural turnover and cups, there aren't too many in the Championship we haven't played relatively recently.

Maybe Ipswich, Derby, MBoro, Bolton, Blackburn, Brum, Watford and Reading....besides Reading, not too much there to get over excited about.

I'd much rather an awayday at Ewood Park or Portman Road than Fleetwood or Crawley..

Most of the away day regulars and semi regulars I know are quite excited about Saturday....novelty and a cheapo overnight stay for a bit of culture...

...my basic point is that our hardcore supporters love it for what it is....of course, going up would provide a bit of novelty, but it's not the life or death thing that Ardiles implies.

Doesn't look too dissimilar to the top flight tables of yesteryear..

No idea :)

Comes from here.

I am guessing it is made up of all teams that have competed in the top 4 divisions of the Football League so includes Bristol Rovers, Torquay, Cambridge and Luton as its made up of 94 teams.
