Title: Walsall V Swindon Town Match Day Thread
Post by: Sir Pissalot on Friday, December 26, 2014, 08:14:17
Seeing as Shaw Rosso is still AWOL (hope he's OK and returns to his duties soon) and the rest of you cunts are either still asleep or too hungover to log on......

I will be setting off around 11 o'clock hoping to see a win of some kind for the lads and keeping my fingers crossed that the weathermen are over-hyping the poor weather forecast for this afternoon/early evening.

Yes, hope Shaw is OK..

Anyway not going to this one, which is rubbish as it's so close :( But I think I'd be happy with a draw today.

Be a real good pointer of a game today.

We must be due a draw - seems ages since we did - but I'm going for an emphatic 3-0 win

Smudge x2 and Turnbull. 5612 in attendance with 1125 from these here parts

My first game of the season today, but must be my fourth visit to the Bescot now. Always a trip I've enjoyed, let's hope today is no different!

Im delighted to say my friends are ill.  As a result, no going to theirs for a nice chat and a walk with the kids.  So I get to drive 2 hours to Walsall in the rain!

I hugged a stranger last time I was there and Zaboub (I think) equalised.  I promise no hugging today.

I'm still trying to recover from the trauma of my first away day at Walsall Feb 66. 0-3 down after 25 mins, with Pete Downsborough, of all people, having a mare.

In the Saddlers side that day, one Gerry Summers, at the time who'd have thought he'd be manager of Oxford, when they won at the CG for the first time in 73, and Pikeys, for the infamous Ken Price Dean White game.

Let's hope Gerry is steering well clear of the Bescot this afternoon, as I suspect we'll need all the help we can get.

Has to be completed in full, or replay but there have been exceptions - Bradford vs Lincoln 1985 for obvious reasons and the 'Battle of Bramall Lane'.

I remember having a game against Bradford at home with around 15 mins remaining in the late 80's due to fog despite us being 3-0 up and playing against 10 men.

Bradford scored a last minute equaliser in the replayed game.

Actually Shitty are on 45, with ourselves, Preston and Franchise on 44, but you are right it's a nice cushion to have. It's already looking like a 4 way fight for the top 2 places.

Absolute nightmare getting away from their car park after the game.  Took an hour to do the one mile back to J9 of the M6 FFS!  But worth it to see that performance.

Conditions poor in second half.  First time I've seen a groundsman come on with a broom to start clearing the white lines while play still in progress!  Looking forward to seeing the goals again.  Good turnout from Town fans.  Haven't seen the figures yet.

just got back great away day the first half was pretty even although we started to get on top just before half time, but the second half was a blitzkrieg could have had more in the end and it was great to score 3 goals at our end. Great turn out by the Town fans out sung the locals who could only sing in hope "call it off , call it off, call it off" as the town fans were singing "Jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way oh what fun it is to see Swindon win away"

Did you turn left out of the car park (if you parked next to ground).
Quicker way and you get the next junction down from all the traffic.

Worth the wait though.....Great finishing.

2 actually ;) not worked up about it but I don't think people outside our fan base realise that our squad is very young and is on a tiny budget (correct if wrong) so to use that excuse when they lose to us grinds on me

If they were winning of course he would say the same thing!

Two tidy finishes from Williams today.
Is his contract up at the end of the season...and having been signed during the previous regime, do you think he's likely to be here next season?

Some fair observations on their forum with one of them comparing us to the Swansea side that were on their way up to the PL - skilful, big strong players and 2 very good forwards.

I never thought about before but compared to last season we are quite a sizeable team.

So who out of the top 4 are the 2 likely to miss out?

I think it will be us and Preston who miss out on the top two, city and franchise have stronger squads and budgets than we do. Preston don't have the quality to be top 2 imo

Depends what happens in January to a large degree, in terms of how well we cope with the loss of Luongo and Kasim and what happens between the transfer window 'swinging open' and 'slamming shut'. Maybe Power will work some more of his magic??

Good day out yesterday and a great result. The game itself, despite the score line, wasn't a classic but the atmosphere was good. I was stood directly behind Mex, who thoroughly enjoyed his half time bovril. The car park was a fucking cunt to get out of after the game, but it was just nice to be in the warm! Nice 11 point gap between us and 5th place now, a lot of people's predictions of a relegation scrap are beginning to look a bit foolish....

Damn right. Even exceeded my hopes this season so far. At least those same people have the we're "going bust" line to focus on now, as we owe the council a couple of months rent.

January will test us as we'll miss Mass and Yas (who wouldn't). I truly think we have enough in reserve as long as we don't get too many injuries or suspensions though.

Wherever Williams go he will have to take a big pay cut so he may as well stay here.

When does Reeves contract end? As it doesn't seem like he is going to stay, could be a bit short in CM even with stephens able to play there

Fair play to Reeves if he does end up going elsewhere to play week in week out. If I was him I'd ask for a deal until the end of January, see what happens with Luongo, and then see if it is worth staying. That said, none of us know who else we have lined up.

Someone may want to go on the walsall forum and tell them we don't have any attacking players on loan from spurs and that they are all ours.

Saw these posts so I thought I would have a look on the Warsaw froum and theres some good comments on there so here is a few of the good ones and the not so good.

Quote
Swindon don't look brilliant but what they are is a very big and powerful side similar to Brentford last season.

Really disappointing that Swindon didnt have to work for any of their goals. I can take being beaten by the better side but we really were masters of our own downfall today.

swindon are decent but nothing special,IMO brentford and wolves of last year would put this swindon side to bed as we did last year at the county ground

Excuse some of our thick fans...............any excuse will do although I note that Swindon are still cheating the league rules regards income and expenditure on players. No surprise there then, the club has had a succession of dodgy financial dealings for many years. I hope they go bust and end up in Estonia.

There's only what two places difference between Swindon and Sheffield but a clear gulf in quality, infact it's a lot like last season when there's a top 4 miles better than the rest.

Swindon were the most clinical team I've seen in a long time. Quick, direct, tricky but tall and strong from crosses too.

Swindon will go up if they play like that.

After the third goal Swindon went into cruise mode. Actually they were very kind to us as if they wanted they could have scored another two or three goals at will. Tippy tappy short passing(?) was not the tactic for the snowy conditions. Thoroughly outplayed by a much superior team, alas. Not seen us collapse like that for some considerable time.

PNE, Franchise, Bristol City and Swindon, those four are a cut above in terms of resources and player recrutiment as Swindon have that wierd deal with Spurs. There is no chance of competiting with those teams, they'll have their own automatic battle and one of the losers will probably win the play offs.

Swindon are a very good side at this level so I didn't compare them to Swansea lightly - a team who waltzed into the prem with some style and class. This a team that are obviously serious championship contenders.

Swindon were probably as good as any side that we have played this season. It was a case of tit-for-tat after we gave them a football lesson at the County Ground, last season, and now they have done exactly the same to us at Bescot, this season. Ignore the reasons/excuses. This was a thoroughly deserved away win.

I'm not criticising Audrey, merely responding to his post which is suggestive of a meltdown after the Eastleigh friendly, when a re-read shows no such thing....just a few posters suggesting we need some extra bodies particularly at the back, who duly arrived.

The goal at Oldham was a pip and a dandy and he did a very good job for us last season. I wouldn't take him over any of our current main three strikers but certainly wouldn't mind him as a replacement should the need arise. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though.
