Title: How to stop away teams playing for a draw
Post by: yogi bear on Monday, December 22, 2014, 18:51:13
with all the moaning of away setting up for a draw the the way forward would be for the FA to change the ruling and award 4 points for an away win

I don't have a problem with them setting up for a draw. Its up to us to break them down. Defence against attack, both legitimate skills.

Fair point but it would encourage the away team more

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. But I was a (really bad) defender when I played :)

Change it to the American sports system and introduce overtime...one team has to win. Scrap promotion and relegation whilst we're at it.

Added time multi-ball.

I still think 4 point for an away in would work just like I'd did moving from 2 points to 3 for a win

Decide games on the number of corners in the event of the teams being tied on goals at the final whistle. Playing into the corners could see some more interesting scenarios.

Let Steve Cotterill decide the outcome of matches - he appears unbiased and sane

Yes that's true just like the city fans who blame every defeat on having a man sent off

So you'd prefer to see home teams setting up for a draw then. Much better

I don't think the hom fans would put up with that

Do teams set up for a draw, or because they know the emphasis will be for the home side to attack, set up accordingly?
I think it's the latter. Teams will be trying to win but are usually more cautious when on the road so it may appear they are playing for the draw.

That's why the 4 points for an away win would encourage a more open game

A 'defensive' set-up could be with winning in mind. Doncaster have quite a few wins away this season. Perhaps they are setting up the way that they do with the intention of winning? It certainly seems to be quite effective for them.

Hey, I just discovered you have an auto-replace of "Franchise" with "Franchise". Not happy with that, actually...

It's a form of censorship. I wrote the name of the team.. that is what should appear, not what a moderator has decided should appear. It's a principle thing...

Disagree. If I wanted to write that, I would have written it. I didn't, but it appears as though I had. Don't want to make a big deal of it, but I was surprised when I noticed it...Any other auto-edits that we should be aware of?

Mate, your pettiness is only encouraging the the very thing that you are kicking off about. Why get so fussed about such a small thing?
