Getting a six-figure fee in January for effectively nothing (kind of a sweetener on any future plans) sounds like this company are very keen to do something with us.

Dare I say this sounds very positive - no more Imagine Cruising on our shirts would appeal to me!

Doubt it will happen once Luongo is sold in January ;)

Its not really anything we don't know though (Powers quote not Sam's article). The Bank and Town End won't go on forever but I can't see the Council shutting them down anytime soon. They've been "battered" for as long as I can remember.

It's nice to see that LP is at least listening to what they have to say. Previously, he's refused any speculation re. The ground I think.

You're far too trusting of SBC.....of course their bumbling incompetence in some ways helps us out, but Power's interest in the ground, has probably been activated by the conundrum of a possible Championship side playing in a 2 sided arena....and not in a Sporting Braga sort of way.

I'm sure you're correct to an extent re. Powers motives. It's not about any element of trust though, I'm not sure on what grounds they could shut the Townend?! The Bank maybe different but then it probably just needs some money spent on the bogs. As long as they're "safe" then I can't see how the council can close them.

Interesting that they approached us. I wonder what's in it for them, it's not as though we can pay them.

I liked Power's words about the fact the CG is falling apart. It's not about a shiny, aesthetically pleasing stadium oh with some extra businesses thrown in. It's now about redeveloping as a matter of necessity.

Maybe it's naming rights or it could be a first move in trying to start a long-lasting relationship? Maybe they've been looking for an 'in' into the Stadium construction industry and this is theirs? I have no idea about the construction industry and this happens but I'm looking at it from a web developers POV :P. That's what we do early on.

The likely scenario is that we agree a deal for them to sponsor the CG in the long term.

The key question is why are they keen and what would they get out of it? As with any redevelopment idea I'll believe it when I see it.

Anyone who's ever spent any time 'backstage' at the CG can tell it has issues that need sorting.

It's just getting very long in the tooth and it's about time something was done.

I think naming rights is a given. One does have to wonder what they will get long term out of it but if they do indeed develop the CG then I am all for it.

Although we have been told this since time immemorial from every previous board we have had.

But Powers track record to date and the fact he is having meetings with preliminary deals in place makes me think this could be the day...

I do hope that whatever sponsorship/naming deal is in place when it is shown on websites or on tickets etc that it is printed upside down :D

It worries me more because it reads like possibly getting the excuses in early as to why it's just not possible to redevelop the CG so we'll have to move to an out of town flat pack instead.

In the Town End? a few years, probably 3+.....why? does that make me less of a fan? yes I guess it does, I live 90+ miles away and rarely get to games these days due to financial restraints.

It was a question because I pay no attention to who sponsors each stand as they change all the time and are largely irrelevant for most fans.

Well after not missing a home game for 25 years until about 6 years ago I thought I would give you young uns a go... :)

I'll get there... the last game I missed was 29th March 2013 v Oldham. So I'm getting there.

What got me was power saying that they love luongoover there, a little superstar, it's like they know that we are still losing money and we will have to sell our most saleable asset, (luongo) so they said how much do you need not to sell, hence the 6 figure sum?!?!

To me it will always be Town End,  North Stand, Stratton Bank and South Stand (although I will I'm sure get used to calling it the Don Rogers Stand in time). As for the sponsors' names, I have not the faintest interest.

thats why i dont understand a lot of fans aggression at stadium naming,especially in the lower leagues where money is tighter and more important. if we could get shit loads of cash for naming rights and it keeps the club in the right direction go for it. it will always be the county ground to the fans.

Hopefully if Power can come to an agreement with the council for the ground, but it sounds like he want's the rent decreased to help with the redevelopment.

Sounds like he has been speaking to the Trust guys also to get a bit of history on our beloved council.
