Title: Wallsall Away
Post by: doomster on Sunday, December 7, 2014, 12:26:02
Official site says tickets have been released yet nothing on the website.  Anyone know whats going on.  Surely we haven't sold them all already.  Like i know boxing day can be drab but surely not.  Although the wallsall social club is a very attractive proposition tbf.

This is not a bad away day for Boxing Day, traffic should be OK. Getting out of Swindon northwards and the 417, can be a nightmare these days.....much better when it was a Roman Road, and you could hit it just past Groundwell Farm, and Blunsdon  was in the sticks.

I had to go to Cheltnum for a quiz couple of weeks back....left home at 6, and didn't get to the Air Balloon until 7:45.... >:(

I know I'm getting tickets for me and the missus for this trip to Walsall tomorrow morning. Luckily my Dad's Season Ticket is available with enough points so we should get them no problem. Even then I bet there will be some left for General Sale.

I just rang walsall direct and bought 1 adult and 3 u18 tickets for £46 in the away end just need to show ID when i collect on the day.

The prices from our site that would have cost £70 so bargain.

Shouldn't this be in the cycling thread,  Reg?

Years ago, I had a work thing in Cheltnum for about 6 weeks; the daily commute consisted of chucking my bike in the guards van of the Swindon built DMU. The dear old DMU's were by then about 20 years past their planned sell by date and used to really chug going up from the Golden Valley through Sapperton Tunnel....lovely downhill to Kemble mind. I had a mate who was  Station Master at Kemble....always used to think possibly one of the best jobs in the country.

I checked my loyalty points a few days ago and I had over 500 from 2 season tickets and a load of away tickets. But I went to buy this morning for me to only have 300 points and for them to have removed one of my season tickets?!

Luckily I could buy 2 on the Walsall site.

Reply from @STFCStore said that apparently everyone's Season Ticket points were being doubled. Just get it from Walsall if you want to guarantee getting one. But I doubt we'll sell out.

To be fair the online ticketing has been pretty good since ticketmaster powered it. Which did happen on Jed's watch. It's the only positive I can think of.

Bit shit to lose the loyalty points though. Though I'm not sure 'the rules' were ever clearly communicated.

That's my problem. I had a go on twitter and they just explained why almost everyone had lost an amount of loyalty points. We would understand but it's the fact they announced this loyalty points system for these tickets a week before they go on sale, so almost everyone will have checked their points. Only for them to be changed the day of with no notification of it happening...

Nope, don't think they ever were. The response on Twitter was that they get cleared down each season. Doesn't really wash as its now December. The concept of "loyalty" points should surely mean they're carried forward from season to season. In general the ticket office staff are very good and Claire and Jason are both very helpful. Think something's gone a bit wrong on this one though.

The problem with that is that it gets distorted over time. Is an OAP who has attended sporadically, averaging twice a season for 35 years, more loyal than a 21 year old who has gone fifteen times a season for 4 years no matter what? The OAP will have more loyalty points.

Or you could have somebody who went week in week out for few couple of years then didn't go at all for 3 years yet is near the front of the line when we get drawn away at Old Trafford/Anfield/wherever in the cup.

All very true and there will always be individual examples where it's not overly "fair". The counter argument is that a guy who started going at the start of the season is in the same boat as the guy who attended virtually every game the previous season if we get a big draw. I think I assumed that they'd just accumulate over (as they did until a couple of days ago). Fair enough I suppose but Reading's loyalty scheme has been going for ages and no points have ever been cancelled. I suspect the majority of the top two divisions are similar but I don't actually know.

Title: Re:
Post by: Batch on Monday, December 8, 2014, 19:15:37
I just want a clear description of the rules. And what the points can be 'spent' on.

On the very rare occasion we get a massive draw the number of years with a season ticket certainly counted as higher priority in the  past. Is this not the case now?

Mate at works a chelski fan, pretty sure theirs roll back at some point during the season to the current seasons only.
Though theirs is a lot more intricate than our 15 for home/10 for away
They get more points for unpopular midweek games than the plum games so if you want tickets to a CL away game you have to turn up for the dire midweek ones.

Controversial, but there is an argument for cancelling the Boxing Day matches. I mean there is no public transport and surely people can't be arsed leaving their warm food and drink filled houses to go and watch a match in fucking Walsall!

Think that's a bit conservative...

I know times change, but traditionally, your average bloke was desperate to get away from the missus, outlaws etc after a days incarceration on Christmas Day....football neatly fitting the bill, although obviously not at the CG for Town fans.

I actually thought we would struggle to muster 500 to Walsall on Boxing Day in total so to sell 500 by now pre-match is not bad going at all. I imagine if we wallop Donny on Saturday we may be looking at around a thousand travelling.

Stfcstore just tweeted around 750 sold so far

From www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk - our recent away followings to Walsall:

Tues 28 Jan 2014 - 1-1 D - 422 STFC fans
Sat 10 Nov 2012 - 2-0 W - 962 STFC fans
Sat 18 Sep 2010 - 2-1 W - 853 STFC fans
Sat 19 Sep 2009 - 1-1 D - 735 STFC fans
Sat 29 Nov 2008 - 1-2 L - 626 STFC fans
Sat 12 Jan 2008 - 2-2 D - 781 STFC fans
Sat 9 Dec 2006 - 2-0 W - 1,072 STFC fans

With it only being a 1 hour 15 minute trip from Swindon, it does often surprise me that we don't take more to Walsall? Yeovil takes about 2 hours to get to and we normally take 1,500 on a Saturday!

I was away in Australia so can't comment but given it was a promotion rivals game and STFC were still riding the crest of the Wise/early Sturrock wave, wouldn't surprise me if we took over 1,500.

Was always a local Derby as well thus little distance to travel.

Up until the late 50's as Audrey said, it was common to have back to back fixtures v someone reasonably close like a Brentford or Bormuff, but I recall being away at Bradford Park Avenue, Boxing Day 62, when then last big freeze hit GB, and it was touch and go getting back to Swindon.

The following 3 seasons we had Norwich twice and Grimsby...

Definitely looking forward to this one.

How many are you all expecting? We have definitely sold 750+, so it should be a good turn out.

Shall I bring the old flag to wave above us? I'm interested to see how it goes at an away game. It feels a bit of a moot point in Arkell's because nobody else seems to give a shit about showing any kind of passion or excitement at the game. At least the Town End boys keep the noise up...
