Title: Black Friday
Post by: Saxondale on Thursday, November 27, 2014, 22:44:24
So this is a new one on me.  Never bloody heard of it until this year.  Load of american bollocks coming over here causing us to spend money on cheaper goods.

So hypocritically, despite hating the idea of this capitalist shite, anyone know about any really good deals?  Anyone found any?

We're doing a black Friday sale at work. I work for a channel only wireless distributor. It's political correctness gone mad.

Last year I got a Samsung Galaxy Note for £129.  Well actually I bought three, but then my catalogue informed me that the price was an error and should have been £229.  There was obviously a backlash from people who bought them, so a few days later they decided to honour the price, but 1 per customer.

I also witnessed a man being punched in Asda, because he pushed in front of somebody and took the last tv.

Definitely seems to be alot more companies doing it this year judging by the adverts I've seen.

Yes, traditionally the sales day after thanksgiving - the day they celebrate kicking the native Americans off their land.

Bloody loved the 2 Thanksgivings I spent over there.  The day is all about food, beer and sport. The perfect ingredients of a
national holiday

I've not seen much that's worth purchasing after I decided to have a look.

I need some new headphones and just saw some Sennheiser HD 518 for £50 and almost bought them, but I then came to my senses and decided I'll stick to the cheaper 'phones that I genuinely want.

So, why are we having it?

MONEY.

Black Friday was better when no one knew about it and you could go onto Amazon and pick up some real bargains without worrying about whether anything would sell out in seconds. Someone has ruined it this year ad every retailer seems to want in on the act. Must have been a bad year for sales for a lot of shops.

Ps4's don't seem to have come down at all online. Amazon maybe by £20 or so. Anyone found a decent price on them yet?

Every major retailer bar Amazon appears to have crashed their website.

How unpredictable was this surge in activity, really? It's not hard to expand your storage.

I've spent most of the last 12 hours slagging it off, but have just bought luggage - something I actually need/want - at massive knockdown prices so no longer grumbling!

£304.99 for a PS4 GTA bundle is pretty impressive.....I was hoping for a bit more discount though considering how outrageously low Black Friday prices are supposed to be. I'll take my chances on waiting for the new year sales I think, hopefully it pays off.

Probably deliberate. Its like the virtual equivalent of queuing outside the door.

On the one hand, it can be difficult to judge what the demand will be and it's possible they got it wrong.

But on the other, it is simple to set things up so you can add additional capacity on demand (especially through cloud services such as Amazon and Azure) so there really is no excuse for it. As you point out, Amazon can cope so why can't others.

I've tried to get onto Currys, best they could offer was a 40 minute wait - that was down from an hour!!  But i managed to get what I wanted on another site, got a 299 camera for 143 delivered!

Was in Tesco in Yeovil at 11.45pm last night and they were queueing up to get the bargains, probably 200 people there waiting.

Good deals if they are selling stuff you want, but I have no money so it didn't bother me.

And if you need anything just put it on your Christmas list.

Title: Re: Black Friday
Post by: Ardiles on Friday, November 28, 2014, 16:42:18
I don't understand the logic to this.  Surely 4 weeks before Christmas is just about the very last time of year that most people need to be offered a discount?  Folk are spending freely at the moment anyway.

You may have fought your way to the front of the melée to get that bargain, but you lost all your self-respect and dignity on the way there.

I'd rather pay extra for something than go through that bullshit. I mean that literally, I'd rather pay for the convenience of buying what I want without being surrounded by cock wombles. If I can't afford it then I'd just buy something that I can afford instead.

Another thing that gets on my tits..... Cunts queuing up for hours and even sleeping out for the latest phone (or whatever). It'll be readily available in a week or two. So you were one of the first to buy one? Just fuckoff!

I bought one thing online. A digital piano which was 25% off. No hassle and got something i've been looking at getting for a while, happy enough with that.

Yes...the same happened with GTV5 when it was launched, 100s queued for hours, near me, waiting until midnight to buy it from 'Game'. I simply turned up to Tesco's the day after and bought a copy involving no hassle whatsoever. Queuing to be the first? I don't get it.

On a related note, I don't understand the mania around the Sales as well.  Seriously, anyone who finds themselves in a queue outside a department store at 4am on Boxing Day

(a) needs to have a sharp word with themselves; and
(b) must have had a really shit Christmas.

Christmas is a time for family and over indulgence.  And enjoy both.  Shopping on the other hand, fuck it.
