Title: Fleetwood away
Post by: kerry red on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, 19:25:09
Looking to make a weekend of this one.

Anyone know if it's worth actually staying in the town or decamping to Blackpool?

I'm probably in massive minority but I can't stand Blackpool. I can only imagine Fleetwood to be slightly less bad.

Fleetwood isn't as tacky/in your face as Blackpool. But other than an outlet place, ferry port and good fish and chips there isn't a lot happening there.

Only up the road for me, so I'll be going.

No idea what the town is like to be honest. It has an outlet village down on the waterfront, and a big old market. That's all I know.

Blackpool is turning into an absolute hole, half of the places on the seafront were boared up when I went about 3 years ago

I went there when we played Morecambe in league 2, it is a complete dive. I can't imagine why anyone would ever want to spend a holiday there.

Its always been tacky, but less of a stag/hen do town back in the day where foreign holidays meant going to Tenby.

Tenby is great. Don't diss it.

Complete hole, I live around 40 mins away and haven't been to Blackpool for 10 years or so.

In face last time Invincible missed a last minute penalty and I had to sit in the home end as they wouldn't sell me an away end ticket with a lancaster postcode!

Amen. Saundersfoot has a nicer beach though.

The last time I went to Blackpool I puked on my own shoes.

That was the highlight of my weekend.

We have a couple of lads staying in the pub atm who are Blackpool and proud, but they both admit it's a fucking shithole.

I haven't been to Blackpool for 20 years, and it was pretty grim then.

0-0 when we got promoted (or won league) under McMahon was my one and only.

Cracking weekend. Stopped on M6 service station on the Friday and saw a car full of Town fans who had just nicked a fucking huge rubber plant and had it sticking out the sunroof

It's a ball ache on public transport although will involve going on the blackpool trams!

I like Blackpool a lot. Great history and heritage.

Of course, any town that pretty much has its economy based on a single industry (principally holidays for the working class) is going to suffer when social and economic circumstances change dramatically.

I have just got back from a winter break in Blackpool, I love the place.

Public transport is great with the trams passing 100 yards or so from the ground and £4.50p for a day pass on buses and trams so park for cheap in Blackpool or Clevelys and get the tram up, they run every 15 mins.

Loads of cheap b&b's in Blackpool from £20 a night.

I would suggest if you like beer then visit the Strawberry Gardens in Fleetwood, part owned by Syd Little who is often there serving customers. Hes a lovely bloke too and usually welcomes football fans. Great food and excellent beer from a regional CAMRA pub of the year winner.

The Highbury Stadium is about half a mile from there.

I believe Jacko will reach all 92 clubs at which he's seen Swindon... Pretty impressive.

Jacko deserves a medal. Whether that medal comes from CAMRA or STFC is another matter....

He'll get a medal there for sure. Unfortunately, it will probably be the pissy variety on the front of his jeans...

My father-in-law lives in Blackpool fact fans. Enough said......parts of it (Stanley Park) are nice, but the whole seafront is crap and tacky (says he who lives in Weston :-))

As for Morecambe, well words fail me.....

Morecambe is about to change beyond recognition so we shall see. I have got a meeting in Blackpool on Monday morning,  cannot wait!

Not bad considering distance and time of year
Am sure if this was beginning/end of season would have 3 times that
Having said that am pretty sure another couple of hundred will be added to that

Got to say I've got an eye on the weather first.

Would love to go as I may not make another game for a while

Can't see the weather being an issue. It's due to warm up over the coming days, and this part of the North West doesn't really tend to get snow like other areas. Looking forward to my second closest game of the season!

Title: Re:
Post by: horlock07 on Monday, December 29, 2014, 16:13:11
Don't worry about weather, we have had a couple of frosts in Lancaster and that's it - as above it rarely shows up here. Plus it's getting warmer everyday.

Another ground to be ticked off list but a two trains plus tram ball aches to get to!

A complete guess but I would imagine best to drink in Blackpool and jump on a tram to Fleetwood.

I had the same question, spoke to our ticket office and you can pay on the day. My preference (however many or few we take) is always to buy in advance. So I've reserved a ticket for collection at Fleetwood's ground on Sat. Anybody who wants to do the same, phone the ticketing number per the club website and select option 2. COYR!

Better for club too as IIRC they get 5% of away ticket sales
As a well known supermarket says, every little helps

I personally can't see us taking quite that many up there, about 400 to 450 IMO even though its a new ground for Swindon to visit, if we were playing them over Easter I could see us taking well over 1,000 but its a cold and wet/frosty January.

Hmmm didn't realise how much white was on their kit so I guess we will be
Hope it fares better than its last appearance

Just checked back, wasn't aware of that, cheers. Law of unintended consequences with a positive outcome for once.

I haven't had any credited over the last couple of days so guess that's a no. Sorry, response likely to be too late anyway. Oh well, will know for next time. Cheers.
