Title: Idea for a new song
Post by: JayBox325 on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 18:41:40
Not everyone has to love it, but I remember there being a big conversation a while back that there aren't any original tunes for football songs anymore...

Well I am an attendee at Bath City FC when STFC are slightly too far or if I can't make the trip (which recently has only allowed me to watch one Bath City game) and they have a great song that I thought we could 'borrow' and rejig for Massimo Luongo.

The following tune: http://youtu.be/NGFToiLtXro?t=1m18s

So we sing all the 'do do dos' ( don't know know else to explain them in type ) and follow it up with:

We love Luongo,
Cause he's a Socceroo,
We love Luongo,
Cause he'll take it past you,
We love Luongo,
Go and get us a goal...!

I'm not a fan of the "Cause he'll take it past you" line, but I have full faith that someone on here can make up a better line ;).

But yeah, hopefully you'll be up for trying it as it is quite a different tune that I haven't heard at any game yet.

If you were wondering these are the lyrics for the Bath City version:

We love Jim Rollo,
Cause he's losing his hair,
We love Jim Rollo,
He can play anywhere,
We love Jim Rollo,
Go and get us a goal...!

Thoughts? :)

Oh Andy Williams, you are the love of my life,
Oh Andy Williams, I's let you shag my wife,
Oh Andy Williams, trust in me when I say....

Been done. Won't work. People hate new songs, you actually get grief for trying to start them. Then when you stop, people wonder why there is no atmosphere.

Ah, I assume that one above didn't catch on. I don't remember it bouncing around the CG or away anywhere..?

The Nathan / Louis Thompson song works OK,  maybe because it's more a chant than song.

I was waiting for Amarii Bell to score so we could sing "He's Amarii Be-e-ell!' to the tune of "You can ring my bell"...

^ THAT I would've got down with. I do like a camp 80s based chant.

Jayos right, We were actually chastised for daring to try and inject a bit of atmosphere into the town end a while back with some songs. So weve kind of given up.

Not that I ever want to give Oxford any credit but they have a player on trial called Albert Kuqi

Guess the song they've got for that

Rule of thumb for football songs is select one from a set list of about 5 standard songs from the 1960s (Beach Boys, Andy William and then pretend you're being original by changing the words. What would be impressive for the Town End to appropriate would be some tunes from XTC.  It'll never happen though.

The problem is that there aren't that many anthemic (is that a word?) XTC songs. "Take this town" or maybe something from The Dukes of Stratosphear? Someone could do something with "Jumping in Gomorrah" maybe?

The song for Wes has dropped off.... I quite liked it.

Barbara Streisand / Simon Ferry worked well too.

Byrne deserves one, so does Michael Smith, Luongo and Kasim.

A few of the London lot have a similar one, which in turn was, I think ripped off from a Sunderland chant. It's notable because the man himself, and several team mates, had to listen to it on a train back from, I believe, Carlise once. Several times over

Oh Rossi Branco, you are the love of my life
Oh Rossi Branco, I'd let you shag my wife
Oh Rossi Branco
Yaser can have a go too.

I think you're all forgetting the rather genius "Iraq Life" to the tune of Russell Brand's Parklife.

Yaser Kasim, Super Yaser Kasim,
From the hot tarmac of Baghdad, to play for Swindon Town.... Iraq Life,
do, do do, do do, Iraq Life!

and Kasim.

Can't be arsed with the rest, but Baby D's let me be your fantasy should be....

Iraqi, Iraqi, Iraqi Yasser Kaseeeeem

Surely the chorus from XTC's Statue of Liberty could be used for a chant. Woo Woo

Harry Harry Toffolo plays on the wing for me

Dedededededede........

(If he's not injured)

In advance of the January window, to the tune of achey breaky heart (Geordies used to sing it about Cabaye):

Don't sell Wes, Wesley Foderingham, I just don't think you understand
That if you sell Wes, Wesley Foderingham, you'll have a riot on your hands

Actually best not to sing this and give the board ideas, particularly with the outstanding rent on the ground....

I'd be sad to see him go, but the chances of a keeper chance clubs in Jan is very slim.

He'll leave in the summer if he goes and the best of luck to him. He's been a Championship level keeper for 2+ seasons now... we have him on borrowed time. It's Mass, Yas, Smith and particularly Byrne I'm worried about leaving in Jan.

There was a Super John Obika song at Newport away.

"Byrne Nathan Byrne" should be a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtIRbt8BuFI
