Not sure my answer to 18 of 168 is correct. I used npr calculation of 7 and 3 less 7and 2. 7 numbers, only 3 numbers can be used at the start (1,2,2), only 2 numbers cannot be used at the end (1,3)

Surely if it has to be an even number then it can only end in 2 or 6?  And as you say it can only start with 1 or 2.

So 1,xxx,xx2, 1,xxx,xx6, 2,xxx,xx2 and 2,xxx,xx6 are the only ones that can work, right?  SO then it's just a case of how many permeatations of each can there be with the five numbers in between.  120 in each one? so 480 in all?

edit:  actually, because there are two 5s and two 2s then that doesn't work as you'll be doubling up some of the numbers...  480 minus 25 odd should sort it... my head hurts.
