Last time I recall hearing Harry Roberts was that Cheltenham game under King, when Gurney got involved with the crowd. Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 07:00:34 He's got to be dead, shirley. I would have said the same but it's true enough...Where are the releasing him from - his coffin? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29734816 Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 11:42:34 Harry Roberts is our friend, is our friend, is our friend, Harry Roberts is our friend...he kills coppers. In the days, when coppers used to form a line in the TE, and wade in when things kicked off....helmets would fly everywhere and then be bunged around like beach balls at Wycombe. A mate of my old man was a copper, who I therefore knew, he was a lovely old fella, who liked nothing better than delivering a good smacking to someone in the ruck :) I once took issue with a flat cap senior officer, who responded by slapping me round the chops with his leather gloves like some sort of Gestapo officer.... Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 11:47:23 My ex brother in law was in the force in the early 80s he too loved that sort of thing, giving a beating to unsuspecting hooligans!
Until he got hit on the head on the Stratton Bank when on duty with a brick thrown by a Boremuff fan in the trouble filled match in 87 when we were 3rd and the muff top. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqS-bfkWLF8#t=23 Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: @mwooly63 on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 13:45:05 Good old Roger " Brizzle city " Malone

This has been running through my head all day. I realised what an old git that makes me when no other fucker I spoke to today knew what the hell I was going on about. Anyhone read the Jake Arnott book that nicked the name? Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: Posh Red on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 19:25:09 Harry Roberts is our friend, is our friend, is our friend, Harry Roberts is our friend...he kills coppers. I remember joining in with these, although not having any idea who he was. Back then it seemed you spent as much time in conflict with the OB as you did watching the game Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: suttonred on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 19:41:22 I don't remember that chant at all, I didn't even know who he was until I saw the article. To be fair though he was inside well before my first game.
Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: Flashheart on Thursday, October 23, 2014, 19:42:51 I'd never even heard of him until this thread.

Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: paddieu on Friday, October 24, 2014, 19:08:42 interesting, looks like no-one else so far remembers the other three HR songs, other than the ring a roses
reference. am enjoying y'all filling in the gaps in my memory/hearing :-) being deaf i was always fascinated by the chants, cos i had to work hard to grasp them. was stood in middle of town end for years. so i bought all the chant books that were out there, and found that several that we sang didn't seem to be in them... [i don't just mean the changed words, but the actual chants themselves] am still puzzling on that one so this HR mystery has deepened that also ! Re the brutal one, ok i'll set it down and see if people amend it. I don't recall Jeremy getting into that one, but it was nice to be reminded of him in the other one :-) If you go down to the woods today you'll get a big surprise If you go down to the woods today, you'll never believe your eyes [then next 2 lines something like, and 3rd line deffo that one] There's lots and lots of Swindon fans Shouting with joy and clapping their hands Watching Harry Roberts kill the coppers. [ouch !] Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: suttonred on Friday, October 24, 2014, 19:10:50 To the superstar theme Georgie best, superstar Walks like a woman and he wears a bra Trevor Morley wears suspenders, I remember from the West Ham games in the 80's Title: Re: Harry Roberts Post by: StfcRusty on Saturday, October 25, 2014, 07:48:34 A-G
