Title: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 18:45:32 Anyone watching? The 3 CM's look very flimsy to me, be happy with a point
Mass starts for Australia as well Title: Re: Post by: Frigby Daser on Monday, September 8, 2014, 18:51:25 Following in the wake of Danny and Gino Invincibile, the Aussies next superhero footballer starts at right back tonight: Josh Brilliante.
Dave Amazing and Hugo Unstoppable apparently on the fringes. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Nemo on Monday, September 8, 2014, 18:52:01 I quite like the team, we don't really have a midfield general type so can't really blame Roy for not playing one. Best in England at the minute is Lee Cattermole who I actually think is quite underrated but he's a serious liability.
Look forward to seeing how Delph goes, he was outstanding against us at 17. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 18:56:11 Silly card from delph with only 9 mins on the clock. Watching the first 10 mins I'd be surprised if Switzerland don't hit us on the counter.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Mother Brown on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:08:31 Draw written all over it.
Title: Re: Post by: sonicyouth on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:12:20 The Norwegian commentators sound terribly bored. As am I.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:13:39 I think it will liven up when delph gets himself sent off
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: RedRag on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:14:18 Aus 2-0 up after 10 minutes - think Mass might have got an assist
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Nemo on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:15:47 Oh Danny Welbeck, 95% brilliant...
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:19:40 We have been through twice now with men to spare, have to take those chances!
We give the ball away too easily Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: suttonred on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:25:38 From Aussie twitter feed.
Luongo looking the part. Having some nice touches early. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Nemo on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:25:59 Was there just a chant of "we're only here for the cows?"
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:30:02 Phil Jones looking a liability at the back...even though he nearly scored there.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: kerry red on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:35:21 Thought we bossed that half.
If we dont go on to beat the cuckoo clocks I'll eat my own dirt. And what's with that Swiss sort with a fucking cheese on her head Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Red Frog on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:43:30 If we dont go on to beat the cuckoo clocks I'll eat my own dirt. You do remember what happened last time you made one of those silly promises, right? Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: kerry red on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:44:55 Sucker for punishment
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:51:16 I can't really complain, given the relative inexperience of the team.
Delph has looked quite good. I still reckon Jones is more of a midfielder than a centre back. He's just can't cope with people running in off his shoulder. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:55:02 4 great chances now!
Sterling and stones disappointing so far for me, delph and welbeck looked good Title: Re: Post by: Batch on Monday, September 8, 2014, 19:59:47 Well worked counter that.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:00:05 Great goal
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Nemo on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:11:50 Well done Cahill
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:36:00 Game over, another good goal.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: REDBUCK on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:38:55 Work in progress but a good result.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:45:11 Work in progress but a good result. Totally agree, a lot of work to be done in that team/formation but couldn't have asked for a better result. Well done to them!Title: Re: Post by: Frigby Daser on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:49:53 Hoddle: Cahill has just taken a feather from John Terry's book there.
Almost as good as Stuart Pearce's carrot at the end of the tunnel. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: reeves4england on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:53:57 Hoddle: Cahill has just taken a feather from John Terry's book there. Almost as good as Stuart Pearce's carrot at the end of the tunnel. He also described us as a counter-acting team. Thought that was a reasonable display given the inexperience. Delph showed some nice touches and movement, was hiding behind the sofa with some of his challenges early doors though! Stones seemed to get caught out of position a bit but nothing disastrous. Poor from Sterling but we've seen what he can do. Credit to Welbeck - let's hope a regular striking role at Arsenal helps him with his England form. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: JoeMezz on Monday, September 8, 2014, 20:56:38 Good away performance, very impressed with Delph. Wilshere very average.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, September 8, 2014, 21:18:41 Welbeck > Rooney. Although apparently Rooney created 4 chances tonight.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: adje on Monday, September 8, 2014, 21:23:37 Rooney MOM for me
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Abrahammer on Monday, September 8, 2014, 21:40:47 That's a cracking result and pretty decent performance.
No reason why we can't go through that group with 100% record really. Build up a few hopes for the finals and then crash and burn as per normal. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: 4D on Monday, September 8, 2014, 22:05:51 Two very ordinary sides.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: reeves4england on Monday, September 8, 2014, 22:13:48 Two very ordinary sides. True. But Hodgson is clearly picking a team that he wants to stick together for a few years, which is exactly what people have been calling for. As we've learnt at Town, it takes time to build a side with a number of new youngsters. We need to give players like Stones, Sterling, Delph, Wilshere and Oxlade-C time to grow into a team. Hopefully this qualifying group and some friendlies against decent opposition will be the time where that happens. For now, a 2-0 away win where we really should have scored more will do for me. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: 4D on Monday, September 8, 2014, 22:25:03 Can't complain about the result, the Swiss didn't look like the same team from Brazil. England did.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: ExiledEric on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 14:36:09 Thought we were OK and probably a bit better than that. Bit dodgy at the back but lots of options going forward. Lob Theo Walcott and one or two others back into the equation when fully fit and maybe there is room for cautious optimism. Most of us said to give the youngsters a chance so I guess we should accept that it may take time to move forward but I would have settled for last night's performance and result. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 14:55:16 Something I thought about earlier...the England XI plus subs and the youth academy they were from (in case of complicated ones I took their club at 16)
Hart- Shrewsbury Town Baines - Wigan Jones - Blackburn Rovers Cahill - Aston Villa Stones - Barnsley Wilshere - Arsenal Delph - Leeds Henderson - Sunderland Welbeck - Man Utd Rooney - Everton Sterling - Liverpool Milner- Leeds Jagielka - Sheffield Utd Lambert - Blackpool Makes you question what those multi-million pound academies are doing, doesn't it? Especially Chelsea's considering the talent they've hoovered up and then squandered. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 15:03:44 Jeez spot the southerner full stop.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 15:40:25 I was there.....manic before and after.
Great atmosphere in the town before and after....didn't see any trouble at all. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: 4D on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 15:44:01 How many went? Sounded quite a few on telly
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 15:47:28 About 3000 I think?
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 16:35:30 Just under.
I shit you not but I had official tickets and was two blokes away from the Swiss....no mesh...nothing. It was great. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 19:56:28 My folks went. Ill get a report when I see them tomorrow.
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 20:46:22 Happy we won't be playing andorra on that pitch, nowhere near good enough internationals surely. Wales lucky to get the win
Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 20:53:06 My folks went. Ill get a report when I see them tomorrow. I'm quite sure I saw Mr. Webb in a crowd shot after one of the goals. Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: donkey on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 21:13:19 There's a bouncing Czech here!

Especially Chelsea's considering the talent they've hoovered up and then squandered. Sterling was a QPR youngster Title: Re: England v Switzerland Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 21:47:22 I'm quite sure I saw Mr. Webb in a crowd shot after one of the goals. May well have done. I was listening to it in my car in London whilst I was supposed to be working. Dull. |
