Title: Tyres punctured at Brighton Game. WARNING. Do not park in same place.
Post by: OrangeTransits on Monday, September 1, 2014, 13:41:06
So I was running a bit late for the Brighton Game last Tuesday and normally park in the fire station. Got there a bit late and they had shut there gates. So turned into Dudmore Road and then followed round into Burford Avenue. I parked on a Single Yellow up on the verge to allow traffic to pass through. Was on the Junction of Burford Avenue and Bampton Grove outside of Number 28 Burford Avenue. To cut a long story short, when I got back to the car the 2 driver side types had been punctured with probably a dart through the side-walls. Cost me a bit to get this sorted and a day off work. Police have been informed and they tell me they've made some enquiries and there is nothing they can do. ( No Evidence ). 1st time I went out to Gablecross police station to report it they said they needed the exact location. I wasn't sure so I went back to the scene of the Crime and started to take a few photos of house numbers and street signs so I knew the location. Within 2 minutes of me pulling up, a guy jumps out of a car and walks with a big smirk on his face into 28 Burford. Call it a 6th sense or something but the moment I realised what had happened I just had the feeling it was a disgruntled resident. The Guy showing up the next day out of the Blue smirking  was suspicious to say the least. Almost like I was being watched from the moment I pulled up there. So whats the point of this Topic ......

1. Has anyone else had any problems in this area re damage to vehicle when parked for games. if so please let me know. I guess any information might help in some small way to nail the culprit.

2. Don't park your cars anywhere near that location as I suspect it will happen again.

6: If you were the culprit, what are your darts made of? I hear Tungsten are probably the best?..

"The main issue is football fans but it is mainly commuters who park in West Walcot and walk into town rather than pay for town centre parking"

So there are 2 main issues then.

How do they know it's commuters? Could be shoppers.

I quite often walk my dog in that area in the morning, and see people park their car and then walk off into town, or to the nearby bus stop... Must be annoying for the residents.

If you think about it, then the roads outside of people's houses, are just as much the property of other road users as any other, contingent of course on local bye laws, and the application of common courtesy, like not blocking drives etc.

So really nothing to get annoyed about...however in our modern stress riddled society, there are way too many people who look for any old excuse to do something daft.

Even worse if you live anywhere near a school.

Fuckers park where they like so their foul offspring dont have to walk too far

It seems  that (imo) people with driveways choose to park on the road outside their house,so that nobody else can.
Mind you ,most households have at least 2+ cars nowadays.

That's true for a normal day, yes. There actually is a "no parking on matchdays" sign on Burford Road...

Sorry OT,  I'd be fuming if it happened to me. I used to park in that area on match days years ago and it was always rammed with fans cars. I thought residents only parking was in place in central Swindon or am I totally wrong?

Old Walcot isn't in central Swindon.

Although it is obviously central enough for commuters to park there and walk.

I park around those streets every game. Never had my tyres vandalised, but had goons watching out their windows and the odd occasion a moan. I never park on anyone drive,or yellow lines, but some residents feel they own the whole street/road. One even tried issuing parking tickets for some cars last season (they wrote it out on paper) dumb asses.
Some wouldn't look out of place on benefit street.

Old Walcot isn't in central Swindon.

Old Walcot only exists as an estate agent's construct....the proper term is Walcot West....as it's not really very old.

In fact the historic settlement of Walcot, is more in Walcot East, the area around New College, and consequently more befitting of the name.
