I have the sponsorship brochure in front of me now, they are also selling the sponsorship rights to the back of the shirt, which is where EA Sports normally were.
The naming rights to the stadium are also up for grabs according to this.

Could the TEF not put a bid in ala sponsor a player - in our present uncertain form I suggest that a couple of hundred quid will outweigh any offers they receive until ownership is sorted.

Samsung's departure doesn't bother me too much.

It wasn't very much money and we didn't benefit from the Win a Contract.

Some sound more disappointed that the club might not have a big name on the shirt more than anything.

Trying to build/rebuild relations with local businesses is in line with what 3rd division football clubs should do, in my opinion.

I'm more of this frame of mind - yeah it was nicer to have something a bit subdued on the shirt rather than some of the shitty other sponsors that we and other clubs have had over the years (Wonga and Yeovil's sponsorship by a Rubbish/Scrap Company spring to mind), but we may well have something decent again, you never know.


I asked this a while back and can't remember the answer, but I don't think they're particularly big on sponsoring stuff as a company.

I believe the year we got to the premiership Honda wanted to sponser up and build a new stadium with tge only proviso that they have a man on the board. This was declined so Honda never came back again.

The company I work for sponsored a game a few years ago, so they sent a brochure to our marketing department.

You talk about Honda now, not sponsoring things now which is totally different.

I am talking when we were going into the Premiership.  Even you know (or should know) Honda were pumping loads of money into Swindon with these new buildings at that time.

I seem to recall a new stadium and £10M as long as they had someone on the board.

Of course it's bullshit....why on earth would the small time operators, then owning the club, turn down a shed load of $, if a major investor came along. Fuck me even my 400 shares might have been worth something.

It's just an urban myth....Japanese companies, invest in their business, they don't chuck millions at local FC's.

Can't remember Honda sponsoring anything sports related in the UK other than motor sports. I remember they had a good run with their F1 engines in the 1980s.

The link between Town and them has been nothing more than rumour and speculation although I'd love to be proved wrong. They do sponsor sports in other countries but I think Honda in the UK are not and have never been interested.


 

I'm with Reg. Heard this rumour in so many different forms over the years. I just don't believe any of our previous incumbents would have turned down that deal.

From what I remember (ie not a lot it was over 20 years ago) Honda wanted someone on the board and would then invest once they had someone who had a say in the decision making...

Sponsorship is a 2 way thing. What on earth would Honda, one of the world's largest car manufacturers have to gain from being associated with a lower league club.

As opposed to smaller companies, like Samsung and EA Sports
