Title: Pre-season friendlies

Last seasons game was surely last time Alan Navarro pulled on a Town shirt lining up alongside Luke Roopney and Paul Benson playing at centre half. Kayden Jackson played too I think but no sign of the lesser spotted Agombar

A day before the World Cup Final then (I think). I love World Cup and European Championship summers.

Eastleigh have also signed Jack Midson, ex scum player on a free, somebody that was linked to us a few years back.

The Sun ( I know I know) is linking us with Jack Midson of AFC Wimbledon for £250,000

I once ran out of petrol on the A3, just outside of Petersfield, at some very early hour of the morning with a hired van load of people on the way back to Pompey from a Hawkwind free festival in Harlow. Rolled to the outskirts and then pushed to a handy garage....of course closed....but wonder of wonders, a machine that would take, in 73 probably a pound and dispense petrol.

I reckon this was about the time of a boom in vending machines in GB....I knew of places where you could buy eggs, from outside farms, milk machines were available and I always liked shoe polishing machines.

There was a petrol garage on Station Rd, in Tidworth, that had an out of hours vending machine for fuel. As far as I remember it took pound notes and fivers. This would be the mid 70's (I was very young).

Marlborough had one too, early/mis 80s
Odd at that time none in swindon. Was a toss up whether to go Marlborough or Membury if needed fuel late on

Can remember the milk vending machines.
Usually to be found on railway stations and dispensed in triangular cartons which were cunts to open.
Lloyds garage on Fleming way and the one in Highworth had vending petrol pumps iirc.

On Belgian railways stations they have beer vending machines. Admittedly they mostly sell Jupiler but a beer is a beer when you need one :)

you would of been amazed at a 10 Bob note. Worth 50p at the point of decimalisation.

What a con that was.

After we kick Europe into touch, we can bring back 240 pennies to the £.

Power to the people.

The irony here, is that the original pound was based on the Roman libra.... a sort of 2000 year old Euro, used throughout the Empire.  Hence LSD and lb for mass, as the currency was based on a set mass of silver.

Yeah, make sure you have a bit of ventilation....and that you don't allow it to run out of fuel....burns the wick, so then doesn't work efficiently.

Oh and don't put your hand on it when hot, or worse still sit on it forgetting it's on.

I was thinking that.....but I'm now wondering if the game v Los Periquitos actually happened, or if it was just proposed, and never materialised.

We  got completely mullered by Sporting, who if memory serves had Luis Figo playing.  We've also had friendlies v Real Sociedad and Sporting Gijon.

It will be their development sides, last season we had Spurs at home who brought almost their entire first team squad.

I think I read that the players are reporting back for fitness tests on 30th June so I guess that date sounds about right.

Pretty easy to get into. i've not had much of a queue in the last 4 years. The PdC game was a bit crowded but last season was pretty sparse.

Those 'funny looks' are just the natural looks of your average Gashead, right?

My father-in-law managed a shop in Yate for quite a long time and have old college friends who lived in the area so I've been around there a fair bit.... Not my favourite place in the world!

Have to say the fact that Feltham is still on the list post-Jed is something I (probably quite unnecessarily) find a bit worrying. Sure it's just a coincidence and all that, but I'd be mightily relieved if someone could suggest a good reason why we're playing them.

It'll be fine going in. More risk of a slow get away. Flying finishes at 6 but the reds are on at 2 something and the f35 may not make it so people may drift earlier.

Would have thought it wouldn't be too bad unless heading to m4 from A419 anyway tbh

According to LP last night that was the original reason, however, Eastleigh cropped up which they thought would be a better test, but as a friend of his is involved at Feltham they said they would still send a "team" there, probably a development squad.

I left at half time as the kids have school tomorrow so can only report up to then.

Petersfield didn't offer up a great challenge so our players looked a class above. Town sat back a little at first but as the game became more stretched we started to take control, got down both wings and passed our way through the middle with ease - with better finishing and a lesser performance from their keeper it would have been a whole lot more.

As mentioned before Barker looked very eager and keen to impress, good feet, good skill but was lacking a good final ball. Not sure if this was in part to do to with erratic desperate defending. Byrne was good going forward as we know he can be - he linked up well with Luongo and Smith. I am glad Smith scored his second penalty and it was a good pen - the first wasn't bad it was just a great save. I think confidence will play as big part with him this season (as it will with Williams). Branco looked solid and at the back, Rodgers showed some touches of class (is he replacing Ranger in our token rape charge role ?).

Luongo was his usual skillful self but..dare I say it....looked a little disinterested. World cup hangover, Brazil to Petersfield too much of a shock ? Or wanting to move ?

Presumably that's a guess expressed as a fact. There's no point in arguing about it, but it's obvious that a good few of our players are not on peanuts.

Sure, we need a couple of centre backs and a bit more depth (in the way that most lower league clubs still have incomplete squads in mid July), but nobody with a shred of common sense would suggest that they have a better squad / team than us. By suggesting that they are favourites, I assume that's what you are doing.

Shows how thin our squad is at the moment. Apparently Nathan Thompson limped off tonight.

Hopefully we can bring in these loanees soon, Gladwin had to play makeshift centre back tonight I think.

Eastleigh have a lot of recognisable players, wouldn't surprise me if they go up this season.

Glad about Thompson.

Nobody wants a crock!

Our season is going to hinge on what sort of reinforcements Power can get in the loan market.

There must be about 3 weeks to the KO, so a bit of time to sort something, and then we'll have a better idea.

You would have thought we were the non-league team tonight, only a friendly and we'll be better when we get some more bodies in.  Eastleigh looked good value for their win and should have  good season.

Stop taking the piss, he fought in the Crimean War for us.  If it wasn't for him we'd all be speaking Russian.
