@SamMorshead_SA: The Swindon Advertiser has been banned from press conferences & barred from using press facilities for home #stfc matches by owner Lee Power

They knew Ranger was going to be playing since Thursday, but wanted to keep it under wraps to prevent Peterborough from being aware. Sam undid this (rightly or wrongly is another argument) by announcing it before teams were announced, thus giving Peterborough time to make changes and prepare for the different threat.

In no way does it justify this action, but I can understand the emotion. I'll imagine all will be back to normal by the end of the month anyway.

Sam didn't have to keep quiet for the 2 days previous and cost himself a decent exclusive story for the paper.

As mentioned by SY I'd expect this ban to last a few days max once Power calms down and sees sense.

Quite, Sam has a job to do and it's not like he has betrayed anyone's confidence. Counterproductive from the club to say the least.

They may be a bit of a joke paper, but the sports coverage is very good for a local rag and it was public knowledge before Sam tweeted what he did.

Oh well, I expect this will be reversed very quickly. No doubt it will.

I recall years back when Plymuff had a similar falling out between their chairman McCauley, and the local rag. The rag hired a cherry picker so that the hack could see the game and write up his reports...although in this case it seems Sam isn't banned from the ground....yet. :)

So why the big secret,if the club had news on the player they should have used there sense and announced it....would have saved it spilling out and also may have put a few extra bums on seats...not many granted but every little helps.

I can understand the Club's position on this, Peterborough may well have been following Sam on Twitter but not the fan who posted the photo or Rangers instagram, so therefore the only way they would have seen this information before the team sheets would be through Sam tweeting about it. If he'd had just waited until the teamsheets were out then there wouldn't have been a problem.

I noted Ranger's shirt on the stadium tour Saturday and can't understand why anyone would want to post this on twitter etc.
Sure Ranger posted something and this is a matter for the club.
Power's reaction a a little ott however football, tactics and team sheets are private stuff.
Peterborough banned all fans from their changing room.
All part of football with delays to announcing team sheets, trying to view the opponents even at our level.

Let's hope this blows over and normality resumed. I like the coverage the adver provides.

Fair enough...but banning the paper?!  A quiet word on the side would have been enough.  Seems like an error of judgement on Power's part to me, and I can't see the 'ban' lasting more than a week anyway.  A face-saving cover story will be concocted that the Adver will be asked to go along with...and they'll all be friends again.  Silly over-reaction.

Yeah I did mean to put at the end of my comment that it does all seem like an over reaction from Power, I can't seen the ban being upheld for too long a conversation about social media/privacy would have sufficed and I'm sure that's what will happen in the end.

This sort of reaction from an owner always looks unbelievably tinpot, and banning the Adver for something that the club's comms fucked up is just petty. Owners often forget how important the local press are in building relations between club and fan base, and Sam has generally been pretty respectful of the delicate balance between scoop and discretion. Who was the last Town fan in his role?

Agreed,or tell fans pre tour that tweets arent allowed, I'm sure 99.9% would comply. Can understand Powers frustration the news was leaked, and Sams that, having sat on the story, he was scooped by a fan on a tour.

FWIW I think the only ones to blame here are STFC what do they expect these days with social media a fan see's Rangers shirt and of course he will 'tweet' or 'facebook' the fact as it will be a shock to everyone, and Sam being a journo would be expected to confirm what he knows as it is then out on the public domain.

So what if P'Boro changed their team due to Ranger playing, it worked really well didn't it with them losing, and I don't buy that either I'm sure no change was made and didn't I see it mentioed that Ranger was by the players enterance when Fergie entered players area.

I think that stfc need to have a think about how they do stadium tours before games so as not to get anything leaked in the future.

I expect Sam to be banned for 1 home game though and after that he will be back in his usual seat, or maybe he can do co-commentary for BBC to get in the press box

I find it funny that a Tweet has called all this, considering Power said on the BBC that you would not find him on Twitter !!

I agree with PtP as it was already out there on the social media after putting Ranger's shirt up in the dressing room, and basically it is STFC's fault for that reason.

Let's hope not. This is already a quite ridiculous over-reaction as it is, would be a real shame if the stadium tours got curtailed as a result. Utterly ridiculous, remember how we all laughed at Southampton? It's a curio, that, off the pitch, we seem a bit of a rudderless ship atm, whereas on the pitch we're at least OK.

Maybe Sam should don his deerstalker and do a bit of research into Power, associates, and how the club is presently run. Might give them a proper reason for the ban  :sherlock:

Statement time

PUBLISHED

19:10 14th January 2014

by Swindontownfc.co.uk

THE Club's actions to place an embargo on the Swindon Advertiser was as a result of a series of issues with the newspaper of which the Nile Ranger incident was the most recent.

The restriction on the Swindon Advertiser covering fixtures is in effect for home matches only, the first of which is at the end of this month.

The Club feels it has acted in the best interests of Swindon Town and its supporters.

However, the Club acknowledges that supporters do need a conduit and, as such, confirm that they will be meeting with Gary Lawrence, the Group Editor of the Swindon Advertiser on Monday to resolve our differences and to rebuild trust between both parties.

The Club would like to reiterate that this decision has been made with supporters in mind and would like to thank all supporters for their continued backing.

Huge over-reaction by myself.

Your digs amuse me, Berni. You are trying far too hard, and it is clearly annoying you that you haven't got a reaction judging by the amount of attempts you have made over the past few months.

Keep trying pal, maybe one day eh.  ;)

Don't flatter yourself Changster, I just say it as I see it and the fact that you think I am serial digging you says more about you than me.

I put your name on the overreaction line as a bit of a joke, I don't see anything untrue about the rest of it, so funny you should bite at the one line I was trying to joke about.

I tend to have digs at people that I believe are spouting shit, that's probably why you think I am constantly having a go at you. Spout less shit, simple.

This has been going on for weeks and its great.  Its the TEF equivalent of name calling, hair pulling and the classic game of knickerchase.  I fully expect Chang and Berniman to be snogging behind the bike sheds and playing "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" before the end of term.

I bet Chang has lovely pert knockers too.

I see the Adver is running one. Less objective than a TEF one, but with a wider audience. Depressingly, current results show 54% backing Power's stance.

I think that Power is forgetting that Sam is a journalist and that is his job, and by his good (mis)fortune is also a fan, he is there to get the 'scoops' and 'exclusives' and to also report the not so glamorous goings on at the club, he is not there to be Power's lap dog and only publish what they / he tells him to write about.

Pointless post really, but having been reading Chris Hargreaves autobiography (sorry it's only a few quid on the kindle)
He mentions about Power and how he blown all his money during his career and was in serious debt, then the next time he sees him, he's a director/chairman of football clubs.
Didn't go into any more detail or how he did it, just saying he was surprise about it.

Anyway back to Sam.

There seems to be a group of about 20 or 30 people on Twitter who see Jed as the best thing since sliced bread, some mong even wants to protest to get him back. I think they need to realise just because someone posts on twitter doesn't mean they know anything about running a football club.

I do like that Power has told Jed not to come to games, smart moving keeping the lying cunt away from the club. You could just imagine him going around the crowd on a matchday spreading rumours and spouting a load of bollocks!

On a side note I could quite imagine Fredi being something to do with Jed, he's just the type of twat who loved people talking about him be it good or bad!

Doubt it, s/he slated Jed and co from the off. And didn't it eventually transpire that Fredi was an anagram of "Fired" and s/he had been sacked by Jed, hence the bitterness? Or was that just speculation in the end?

It's going to suck ass, as the adver can't print/tweets the facts without upsetting the cunt.

Most democracies don't let you vote as many times as you can be bothered.
