There's nothing quite like tempting fate!

Title: Re: If we get to Wembley

is this thread designed as a magnet for the trolls from other clubs for when we don't get there - so that all other threads can proceed as normal?

Title: Re: If we get to Wembley
Post by: 4D on Thursday, May 2, 2013, 06:04:54
No. After so many people have moaned about disliking Wembley etc, I just wondered who would go regardless.
Not tempting fate, most in the poll thread think we'll lose to brentford anyway.

I don't think we'll get there, but if we did I would probably go

I hate the place. It's souless, bland and expensive but I wouldn't pass up the chance to watch us there...again!

From a personal point of view I hope we don't get there as I can't really afford it. Hopefully the football league will turn round and say 'we've shafted you in the past, why not have a free ticket to the championship'. Obviosuly not going to happen though... :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

I don't think we will make it but if by some massive chunk of luck in the playoffs we do then a bunch of wild fucking horses would not stop me following my team to the English home of football where many teams will not even visit once in their history let alone 3 times in 4 seasons.

First of all, I don't think starting this thread will have too much bearing on whether we get to Wembley or not. I suspect that's got rather more to do with the players and to a lesser degree, the manager.

IF we get to Wembley I won't be going. I just can't face it.*
I could give an essay length answer but that just about sums it  up.

*For me to have typed or uttered those words only a two or three years ago would have been unthinkable.

But I also can't face not being there.

This sums it up for me, I promised myself after the JPT that I will give it a miss next time,
and this wont change if we get there, I will be going down the pub, have a nice meal watch and enjoy/ or not :pint:

Jesus H Christ!!

You lot need to man up.

Win or lose, a trip to Wembley is just about the pinnacle for a club such as ours.

Who cares if the stadium is shite, it's all about THE DAY!

See you all there!

I'll be going.

I'm a little conflicted here because I'm choosing to watch the home leg on TV with a group of friends & family - so not going to preach to anyone about going.  But...

Its my team in a play-off final, 1 game away from being promoted to the Championship.

I'll be going.

...does sum it up pretty well for me.

Understandable as it would be your first time there, its hardly a surprise that the 2 previous visits have drained excitment levels somewhat about the prospect of visiting the place.

I think I'd feel a bit stupid not being there if we did go up.  That would be the biggest motivator for me.  I was there the last time we were promoted in to Division 2/Championship (at Blackpool, April 1996).  I'd hate not to have been there if we were to manage it again.

All speculative right now though.  First up, Brentford.

As I think I have said before, I will not be going IF we do get to Wembley, I would love to blame it on a soulless shite plastic new wembely but the truth is it is my wifes 40th Birthday, and as much as I love the Town I love my bollocks being attached to my body more.

Actually a woman I work with has a plane (its not a jet, some small thing that they use to go on their jollies) which would be handy!

As Lux-London is a big business route you can actually get return flights for around 100 Euro return. I had booked flights for that weekend before I even knew it was play-off final weekend. Bank holiday in Lux on the Monday as well so handy if we win! :)

Flying with whom? I've just had a quick look and can't find return flights for less than about £250, forgot that it's public holiday that weekend so Norwegians will all be flocking abroad

Cityjet to London City. My options are Cityjet, BA, Luxair or Easyjet. I never used to use Luxair as they are extortionate but since Easyjet have chosen to introduce flights to Luxembourg, they have become a bit cheaper.

You do have to book quite a bit in advance for the 100 Euro flights, the prices tend to go up around 2 months prior so you have to be quite organised!

On reflection (though I was annoyed by the manner of our collapse Saturday) I'm quite pleased we're playing Brentford, who I think are the best team left in the play-offs, rather than Yeovil, who are the team I'd most fancy us to beat over two legs.

Better to play the hardest team now, and test whether we're actually good enough to beat them, than delay playing them until the final, and find out we're not up to scratch.

Problem with us is that we may possibly beat Brentford (best team in play offs) and then lose to either Sheff Utd or Yeovil in the final

I will be there if we reach the final. Any "normal" fan would irrespective of "New" Wembley being soulless and the thought of losing etc. Affording the day though is a different matter and can understand the excessive cost putting some off.

I am there next Saturday as my eldest lad is a Man City Mascot and will leading out the team....will be a great experience for him, but he would prefer if it was Swindon. He has already played on the pitch before England v Holland so later in life a great memory.
I am going for him although can't get excited without supporting Man City or Wigan.
Only STFC for ma and will always be.

It's depressing that this is even up for debate.

Yes it's expensive.  Yes it's soulless.  Yes we've been shit there.

I do appreciate that we all have different personal circumstances.  But these are the play offs and we have more than a chance of getting to the Championship for the first time in nearly 20 years.

My old man is in his 70s but queued for nearly five hours for Brentford away tickets on Tuesday.  The stories just from getting play off tickets over 25 years could sustain most of us for an evening in the pub, never mind the games themselves.

Don't make getting tickets easy and boring for us, don't contemplate not going whether it's at home or at Wembley.  Be there if you can - my dad said it might be another 20 years before we get a shot at it - we'll not be waiting for next time.

Title: Re: If we get to Wembley
Post by: ChalkyWhiteIsGod on Thursday, May 2, 2013, 15:15:44
IF we get there, instead of employing some two bob online service that charges a fiver a ticket in just admin fees, how about we employ club workers to sell tickets from the match day sale windows in the town end? Going on sale to season ticket holders first of course they could do the bulk of the sales in one Saturday.

The club could pay the ticket sellers double time and still be better off financially than paying ripofftickets.com a fiver a ticket to mess it all up, better for everyone.

I'm still not sure I would go. Even if we win, I'm still going to be in a brilliant mood and will have seen it on the telly. If we lose it's over £100 down the toilet and still feeling miserable and grumpy about watching a shit game in a shit atmosphere.

This is interesting - on the one hand people (not just Flash) make the above comment and that's fair enough. On the other hand though, people rip the 'happy clappers/plastics' because they only go when we're playing at Wembley. So it seems to me that going to Wembley is hardly the bench mark for what makes a 'real' fan.

Not having a go our 'owt, just an observation really.

They are two different things though:

1. Fans who go week in and week out but don't want to go to Wembley (through reasons other than cost/not in country).

2. 'Fans' that only go to Wembley but can't be arsed with the bread and better matches.

I don't have a problem with 2, the more the merrier. Can't get my head around 1, but each to their own.

This.  Why would you follow the club through every up and down over the season and choose to miss out on what could be an unforgettable memory?

The last two Wembley visits were painful and if I'm completely honest I'd rather we lose in the semi finals than go through the distress of another expensive Wembley defeat.  If we do beat Brentford though I'll be there hoping that it ends the same way as my first two visits to Wembley did in 1990 and 1993!
