Title: Play Off Tickets
Post by: joteddyred on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, 21:33:17
http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/news/article/playoffstickets-789938.aspx

Seems a bit unfair that someone could have attended most games, but missed the Stevenage game and will therefore lose any form of priority.  I'm also slightly confused as to which category my 9 year old son falls into.  He is a Junior Red and has a ST, which is free due to his age other than the £25 Junior Red membership fee.  I assumed he would fall into first priority for ST holders, but someone has told me it's adult ST holders only?  Bloody ridiculous if so and means I'll have to make two separate purchases on different days.

Seems unclear to me how many tickets per ST holder. Mentions an additional 'unreserved' ticket but is that per ST holder or per transaction?

Oh well, I doubt it will sell out so anyone who wants a ticket will get one.

It better be all season ticket holders, not just adult. It doesn't make sense to do it any other way.

If only they'd made a clear and unambiguous statement along the lines of....

Quote
Two tickets per Season Ticket holder.

It states on the OS that you can purchase two tickets per season ticket from Sat 27th April and you can get two on a junior red ST but not until Weds 1st May with that. General sales will be the day after on Thurs 2nd May. Also that although Under 10s are normally free they won't be free fir the playoff games.

No worries, it's a bit long winded on the OS but pretty sure I've got it right. Please check though just in case  :)

It doesn't.  The OS states that Junior Red Members can get tickets from 1st May, it doesn't say anything about Junior Red ST Holders.  All other references are to all season ticket holders which must include Junior STs.  It would be nuts any other way.

I am assuming That Junior reds are automatically season ticket holders?  so they should be in the ST bracket but why does the OS mention junior reds only being able to buy playoff tickets from the 1st?

Yes, it is confusing - my 5yr old is a ST holder and, I think by default, a JR. I don't think you can be one without being the other.

They definitely seem to have made things more complicated than they need to be. I would have thought anyone who really wants one for the home leg will get one though. We haven't sold out once this season i don't think.

nope. My youngest is a Jr red next year,  but does not have a season ticket on account of him being a bit young and there being no free seats near us..

U10s need to be a junior red to get a free season ticket.

£25, they do organise a few things like Christmas and end of season party (my lad has never been), there is a Jr Robins pre-matchday room (no idea) and this season there was a Christmas present of a Rockin' robin money box.

Plus you get free tickets for U10 when buying an adult ticket (same applies to season tickets).

The guy who sits next to me hasn't been there since January so I want to try and buy his seat for my mate so will have to be quick when they go on general sale (unless he decides to actually come back)

If we get Yeovil do you think they'd sell out their home supply? I'd even go over there to slyly buy a ticket when they go on general sale if it comes to it.

Or for that matter Brentford?

That would be ace. Just like in the movie ID. Being cheered on by the STFC fans as we are escorted around the pitch to join in the celebrations. Swindon players clapping us for our heroics and us clapping the players for their hard work, grit and determination at getting us to Wembley.

Stratton Bank or a Bank at Griffin Park?

I don't see why we're giving them 3300, that's 2.5 times the 10% stated in the rules.

Need to make a decision about the away leg by tomorrow night in order to get ticket Tuesday.  In two minds at the moment, but I'm not sure I can bear watching on tv!

Everyone will be surprised to hear that DPC's sources are wrong as usual, although this time it's a basic reading issue rather than his sources being made up.

What Jed is actually trying to do is give Brentford the bank only- giving us the rest of the Arkells, usually reserved for away fans. We need to give them 1500 seats, the Arkells away bit holds 984 but the Bank (Excalibur Stand) holds enough but as it isn't covered we need to get Brentford's agreement.

We did this with Charlton as they agreed.

Just give them the bank and every third person through the gates an umbrella, that will solve the roof over their heads and % issues. They don't travel in big numbers do they? Can't see them bring 3,200 which will make it even more frustrating seeing empty seats.

I think you may be surprised. A lot of Brentford fans support major London clubs and see Brentford more as a hobby or a time killer when their real love is away. From the Brentford website

"Brentford has been given an allocation of around 3,300 tickets for the away leg.

The first batch sold will be in in the uncovered Excalibur Bank, behind one of the goals at The County Ground.

When this area is sold out, the remaining seats will be in a section of The Arkells Stand, on the same side of the ground as the tunnel and dug outs."

That's good, at least if they don't sell out, which I doubt they will then we can use the whole Arkells for home fans. Although, saying that, i'm not sure we will need it either!

I don't think anyone should underestimate the extent to which demand for tickets is going to be dampened by these games being on TV.  Without the TV coverage, I'm pretty sure that we could fill the County Ground with Swindon fans alone.  With it, demand from our fans will just about be satisfied by the 11,000 tickets on offer, and Brentford will probably bring 1,000 or so.  Either way, I'm not sure there are going to be many on the Bank on Saturday.

Agree.  I daresay had Di Canio still been in charge, it would have persuaded a few more to come rather than watch on tv.

I wonder at what point they will make the decision that Brentford don't need the Arkells tickets and put them on sale to home fans?  No good leaving it too late.

I'd be surprised if either leg was sold out although we'll sell our away allocation for Brentford pretty quickly.

For many obvious reasons there isn't the same excitement and hype for the play-offs as in 03/04 and 09/10 and most are completely writing off our chances, hardly an enticement to the casual fans. If we didn't sell out against Charlton then I can't see it this weekend with all the negativity on and off the pitch. As Ardilles mentions, the games are available on TV and it's a bank holiday weekend where many will presumably have made plans (looking at you Batch) and can't cancel. We haven't come close to a sell out for a league/PO fixture since Leeds in 2010 and 3,300+ of the attendance were Leeds fans. Villa and Wigan were sell outs due the Premier League factor.

Just been down, only about four in front of me.  Big notices up about credit card charges (£5) per ticket and debit card (£2-50) per ticket, but my two adults, one concession and one junior which came out at £81 and I was only charged  that on my debit card.  Not quite sure what all that is about!!
What happens if you pay cash?

If that's the same phone system I was using to buy tickets a few Saturdays ago, it seems to count down a minute or so every time the update message plays regardless of whether you're moving up the queue.  When it counts down eventually to 1 minute, it just stays there.  Not very sophisticated, I'm afraid.

Since 7.30 and about 30 from the front now. Painfully slow.

The queue is back to around the town end turnstyles. Problem is people bringing loads of season tickets ala Oxford.

Queued from 6.45. Served at 10.10. So over 2 hours from doors open. Queue looked longer than my starting position when I left...

Yeah it is but there's no limit on how many each person can get as long as they have the right amount of cards. At least at the Oxford game it was 4 per person. Having two on the phone is wrong too IMO. Those who can be arsed to go down there should be rewarded.

1 per ST holder but people can bring as many as they want.

I'm trying my luck on the phones.  Currently position 40, average wait time 64 mins!

I do agree Jo, but you do realise that if they had then you'd probably be completely wasting your time by now as they'd have already sold out! Maybe it's worked in your favour. Good luck!

They did have 3 windows open first thing FWIW too.

I know and to be fair we only decided this morning we were going to try and get tickets for the away leg, so our own fault really for dilly dallying.

Some have a choice to phone or queue and some don't, some that phone won't get tickets and some that queue won't get tickets.

As long as the numbers are equal on those manning the phones and in person then those queuing will should* get processed quicker.

Define those who can't be arsed (I know you specified those who can).

I live and work in the Maidenhead area as does my Mrs so, can't get to SN1 to make a personal appearance in the ticket queue. Sorry to dissapoint.

We can be arsed to attend the games but need to use the phone to get the tickets.

Have tickets for home and away- I queued on the phone for 10 minutes for home. Mrs queued on the phone for over an hour for away.

In this day and age it's a crazy way to sell tickets.

They should sell them online, let everyone with season tickets order them and then allocate them based on how long they've had season tickets for or the number of away games they've gone to. Something like that.

The amount of time people have had to waste queueing and the cost of the phone calls is a joke. Well run club my arse.

I live and work in Woodley and work in Reading so not a million miles from you. If you live out of town then i feel your pain and understand that the phones are a godsend.

I still don't feel its fair that some queue for 4 hours while others get through on the phone in an 8th of that time from the comfort of their own home. Just my opinion though.

No excuse, it's not rocket science - you'd hope they have all the information to hand and they just need someone to pull their finger out and put it all together. Feel sorry for the season ticket holders that go to most away games as well, they really should be getting a ticket without all this bollocks.

Ideally those who have attended a certain number of away games should get priority but as a lot of away games are pay on the gate it's not possible.

First come, first served is the practical way of doing it.

Can only assume they don't have enough computers on the ticketing system. They need to log who has bought against ST accounts.

Was painful. I don't begrudge this guy (somewhere in front of me in the queue), but he bough 5 away and 6 home tickets. Must have taken the ticket guy 5 minutes to get through it all. When there are 3 serving it doesn't take long to see why the queue moved so slowly.

The stupidly quick time from season end->playoffs didn't leave the club much choice I suppose.

Yeah i totally agree, they can't move the goalposts halfway through the season. Just make the deal:

- Those bought in advance get awarded points. If you buy on the day that's up to you but you know the score!

No need for stubs or too much additional admin, just those bought in advance get allocated against your season ticket card.

May be a stupid point, but if you paid for 17 home games this season you would have been better off to buy a season ticket.  With the monthly payments option you would still be better off financially & wouldn't have to miss games like this.

One other point about ST's is that priority for tickets for matches like this is always marketed as one of the benefits.

I guess they (as most other clubs) believe that anyone prepared to commit a serious wedge of money to the club at the start of search season deserves priority over someone who can decide half way through the season that they've had enough and aren't going to any more games.

There is no ideal solution, and I am guessing we as a club do what most other teams do.

If there are still tickets left to be sold after today you're more than welcome to take it and try your chances tomorrow.

I was not planning on going to 17 home games this season hence the reason for no season ticket, however like others if we gain promotion I will purchase one. The point I am making is that when we allocate tickets for key games it always seems shambolic and the club comes over as a real amateur outfit and not sure what they are doing especially when it comes to P/O matches similar issues for the Charlton game.  No system is 100% and I agree that ST holders should have priority however to base the next level on who has a ticket from on this occasion the Stevenage Match is a not fair IMO. The club has a database of supporters who buy tickets details why not look through this
The main point is the Club need to look at improving the system,

The club won't make anything from the aways.
Why won't the club make anything from the away tickets?  Unless it's changed I understood that the four clubs get something from each game, which is why financially it is (or was!) better financially to get in the play-offs!

A total balls-ache but managed to get a ticket for the away leg.  Drove 40 miles to the CG, joined the queue at 9-30 and got served at 13-40, by which time only a few terrace tickets were left.  Felt sorry for those still outside who had queued for a few hours too!  Drove the 40 miles back home, relieved but wondering how it could have been done any better (or fairer) when there were only 1800 tickets available.  By the way, I have been to every home game and 18 away games this season.

Ahh fair enough may be we do, not sure on how the gates get split over a 2 legged semi final. Ordinarily we just take a nominal percentage (about 5% i think?) to sell away tickets on behalf of the home club though.

This is correct and still current. It's section 5 of the play off rules. Everything from all the games is pooled up and then split out accordingly.

Swindon will essentially get 12.5% of all income from all 4 play off semi final games, and 25% from the final should we make it that far.

5.4.1 50% of the Net Gate Receipts shall be paid into the Pool Account referred to in Article 65; and

5.4.2 the remaining 50% of the Net Gate Receipts shall be aggregated, Division by Division, and each Division's aggregated monies shall be shared equally amongst the four Clubs taking part in that Division's Play-Off matches

And that were available online or via a different phone no where there was no long wait.

Considering some queued for 4 odd hours, 1.5 hours holding on the phone doesn't seem bad.  I would imagine that somebody could have phoned at 1pm and got through in minutes.  Seems unfair on those who missed out at the ground.

Everyone had the same option as to whether to go to the ground or 'phone for tickets. People were always going to miss out with such a small allocation but it was the fairest way imho.

Well I enjoyed the waiting in a way.

I met a women who had driven (with her dog) from Guildford.

Another women who was getting tickets on behalf of her other half, who had only been to 2 Town games and thought she would rock up, get a ticket and be done pretty quickly. She also didn't like the magic roundabout. We got her to ring her other half and say she left his season ticket at home but it was OK because she remembered the details :)

And two blokes who I think were some sort of account managers/credit controllers. They offered to get my ticket for me (as time was a tickin')/buy me a coffee from Burger King. I suspect  at least one may frequent the TEF. So hello whoever you are and thanks for the offer.

I met a women that offered to get us something from Tesco, who needed to be at work by 9 and who I think found someone she knew further up the queue :)

I managed to avoid being interviewed for TV. spoke to an Adver hack after getting a ticket but was pretty hurried and could barely string a sentence together.

And that is what its all about. I suspect, like many, its going to be difficult. But I can't think of anyone I'd rather be with if it goes wrong, or indeed right. Amongst strangers eho while aren't friends will be feeling exactly the same as me.

Although getting wankered down the pub sounds good too.

The pool account is distributed to all league clubs, money from other stuff goes in to it as well.

The aggregate amount is shared between the four clubs in that divisions playoffs.

I'm sure there used to be a gentleman's agreement in The Championship where the losing finalist got the winning finalists share of the money as well and possibly the same for the losing semi finalists. Not sure if they still do it or if it happens in other divisions. It could all be bollocks as well.

I don't think card payments were the biggest hold up, the length of time taken to book season tickets on to the system was the issue.

They have bar codes on FFS. Should be scan the card(s), type in the number of tickets. Pay. Go.

More counters open would be good. Reckon there is a ticketing computer shortage though.

To be fair, for all but 2 games of the season what we have is easily good enough.

Quite Batch!  I took four season tickets down yesterday for the home leg, Jock loaded them on, then he did my debit card payment, then he had to check that the tickets had been upgraded - the junior season ticket wouldn't upgrade so he had to go back and start that one again and produce a paper ticket for my grandson, then he had to take the counterfoil off of the ticket and write in thick black felt tip "Junior" over it. The whole thing took about five minutes, although there were only a couple in front of me when I got there and they did have four windows open.

We'd sold 5,617 by this morning. General sale from tomorrow.

I wonder what the final attendance will be? I'd like to think we'd get at least 10,000 Town supporters through the gates? Opinions?

Under better economic situations and with more expectation of a win for the outcome, we'd all be predicting a sell out normally.

Title: Re: Play Off Tickets

We'd sold 5,617 by this morning. General sale from tomorrow.

I wonder what the final attendance will be? I'd like to think we'd get at least 10,000 Town supporters through the gates? Opinions?

Under better economic situations and with more expectation of a win for the outcome, we'd all be predicting a sell out normally.

Might just be me, but I think it's a pretty shit excuse that you won't go to such an important game because you think we'll lose. I know there's a lot of fairweathers out there, but still, this is a time to get and spur your home town team on to a massive win. Suppose I should be used to the general apathy this Town has towards it's own club.

I think we'll get around 11-12K home fans. Really hope it's more!

Fully agree. I remember when the draw was made for the CL semis, that all the press thought it was going to be a Barca v Real final. Well, with Barca 6-0 down on aggregate at the moment, both lost in the semis.

It's the start of possibly three cup games...and we haven't been that bad in the cups in the last couple of years.

Anything is possible.

They're using an outside ticket office jobby to sell the homes i believe. Presumably they're also selling on behalf of Wolves too. This is why its plus £2 on each ticket you buy over the phone too.

20 minutes on the phone and all sorted.

I tried logging on before I went to work but the game wasn't coming up under 'Home Games' so I popped in to see Dave and co at the ticket office and got them pretty quickly, they were only a few people in front of me.

There seems to be quite a few decent seats still available too, middle of the DRS etc.

A sell out for the home leg would be good, better atmosphere and more people to get behind the team. Reckon they should give away all the remaining tickets on the day, maybe get a sponsor to cover them. Relatively small amount of money but it could make a difference on the day.

I had a look on the official site today. Figures at COB on Wednesday are that ST holders 'snapped up' (its never just bought with tickets, they always seem to have to be 'snapped up') 6,721 tickets and Brentford have sold 1,175 so total sold is 7,896. Will definitely be 10k+

Griffin Park is right next to Brentford Rail station so you could park up somewhere not Brentford that is served by the railway. There are regular trains from Waterloo to Brentford and vice versa, so you could park somewhere on the outskirts and get the train in?

There is a slight (!) apathy about this game from many of our fans, which I feel is a bit unjustified as it is a play off.

I can see us selling at least as many home tickets as we did vs Stevenage in the last home game which was about 9,300 and then add on the 1,600 or so that Brentford should bring and we have a crowd of almost exactly 11k!

The best advce is to get there early.

There is a limited about of residential parking in the surrounding areas, last 2 times ive driven i've parked the other side of the A4 from the ground.  It was tought to find spaces and that was when the attendance was probably half what it will be on Monday.

True, but reading their forums I don't think their apathy is tinged with as much downright negativity as we seem to have, they, at least, feel they can reach Wembley.

Park in Lionel Road North, right by the North Circular slip road off the M4. 10 minutes walk away , but you will be back on the motorway in no time after the game.

???

But... but... I watched the Milwall game (last game of the season 09-10) in the Winners on a big screen.  I even got a sexy wristband!

Or do they mean a massive giant festival-style thing that will obscure the whole Stratton Bank?  :sherlock:

In front of the Town End apparently!

fairy play to you but it wasn't down to the system working. If it did you wouldn't have got one.

Why would I be, I'm going, but as you stated earlier you don't attend many games, or should you have said only the important ones

I'm interested in this day tripper thing.

What games from this season would one have to attend to become a day tripper? I think I might have done it wrong.

Coventry away, but definitely not Hartlepool

Didn't make Coventry away.

I did Leyton Orient away instead.

Being in the stands at Orient that night was a bit like being in a dishwasher.

dang, you so Scottish you even write 'aye'

Title: Re: Play Off Tickets
Post by: Peter Gibbons on Thursday, May 2, 2013, 20:38:38
Which reminds me of this:

The word "aye" is a frequent synonym for "yes", although not always officially acknowledged as such. In December 1993, a witness in a Scottish court who had answered "aye" to confirm he was the person summoned was told by the Sheriff that he must answer either "yes" or "no". When his name was read again and he was asked to confirm it, he answered "aye" again, and was imprisoned for 90 minutes for contempt of court. On his release he said "I genuinely thought I was answering him"

- "Scotsman 'ayes' his way to the cells", The Times, 11 December 1993.

We won't sell out for the home leg because it's £25 a ticket. Why would a floating fan pay £25 to watch a game when they can watch it for free on tv. £20 a ticket and it would have been full.

It won't be a sell out... but it'll be a good attendance regardless.

Attendances from last night were 14657(656) at Bradford and 6563(653) at Northampton. Only Bradford come out of that with any credit.

I asked the box office yesterday are tickets on sale on the day and they said yes. I think we will have about 12,500 as said before £25 was the killer if they had dropped to £20 it would have been probably been full

656 Burton fans away from home is a great turn-out for them on a Saturday afternoon let along a Thursday night... and they were richly rewarded for showing up.

In the Play-Offs, the home leg and Wembley are the day-tripper's carrot. Not jaunts to Valley Parade or Sixfields.

The way I see it you should be taking at least 1/3 of your home support away in the playoffs. We sold more than that figure for Charlton and did it for Coventry in the league this season too.

But Cheltenham Town and Burton Albion are not Swindon Town.

In the same way as Swindon Town cannot compete with teams in the band above us.

Let them be.

Which is why I think 1/3 of your home support is achievable for any club. It's a percentage.

Yeovil have sold about 1000 for tonight are their fans are expecting almost 1500. That is amazing for a Friday night, Yeovil to Sheffield is a horrendous journey on a Saturday let alone a Friday night.

Totally dependant on distance to travel

That's a good attendance for that kind of distance from a smaller club! Good support! :-)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for Yeovil tonight.

The only reason for my defending of Burton and Cheltenham is down to the fact that, as a fan of a different club, it doesn't really matter to me.

As far as I'm concerned, whipping out and judging clubs on average attendances is the desperate last stand for many.

yebbut- what if 1/3 of the home support is far bigger than the away end?
