Title: Yeovil Town FC v Swindon Town FC Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Shaw Rosso on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, 00:01:39
The Opponent: Yeovil Town

I must admit, my mind has been somewhat occupied with just about everything apart from STFC over the last few weeks, all in a positive sense though.  A few weeks back, my long time mate who has stood next to me in The Town End for the last 13 years and I decided to have a crack at putting our own business together and it seems to have taken off at a rate of knots that we didn’t quite expect, so for the last few weeks we have been clearing sheds, gardens, garages, collecting and delivering just about anything and pretty much anything that needs the use of a man with a van. Plug over. By hook or by crook I have ended up with the very green beanie that Di Canio wore, complete with STFC pin badge affixed to the front by Di Canio himself. Its yours for £600 Matchworn Shirts.

My own memories of Yeovil away are rather bland. The last time I made my way down to Somerset was one of those loud and proud days, big long bits of blue and white tissue paper if I remember correctly. I think I may well have had a few local beverages before the match though, and the rest as they say, is history. For me, Yeovil have really been one of the shock promotion candidates for this season, though I guess you could have said that quite a few times over the last few years as they often seem to be there or thereabouts, and fail at the last hurdle. I was planning to do this one this evening but instead I shall be delivering a marble fireplace to someone on the middle of nowhere then settling down to watch it on the box.

Not far down the road from Yeovil is Sturminster Newton, now what has that got to do with anything I hear you ask? Well, make a note of it in the diary, 14th September, The Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival 2013.  The Cheese Festival has 60+ traditional food stalls, 60+ craft stalls, real ale and real cider tents. Live music, Punch and Judy, Morris dancing, children's entertainment and of course plenty of cheese making, cheese tasting, cookery demonstrations and cheese related events. What a fantastic day out, and with tickets going at a fiver, why wouldn’t you? Interestingly, Archaeological surveys have indicated signs of activity from the Palaeolithic period, with burial and occupation sites located principally to the south of the modern town, particularly in Hendford where a Bronze Age golden torc (twisted collar) was found.

2 of the most notable Yeovilians both hail from the sporting world. Moustached Olympic Rowing Champ, Heather Stanning being one of them and Ian Botham, legendary cricketer and former Scunthorpe FC player.

What have they been saying about us? –

“We are in a rich vein of form at home as of late, marked this down as one of our banker draws, taking into account the quality of the opposition. Nil Nil”

Yeovil last 6 –  WDLWDD  (Currently 6th, also on 63 points)

The irrelevant stats –  Yeovil Town are unbeaten in their last six home games, winning five of them, and drawing the other one. These high-scoring games have yielded a total of 14 goals for the Glovers, with 4 goals against. Might be worth pointing out that our away form ain't too shabby!

The Threat –  Paddy Madden has scored 19 goals so far this season, and James Bloody Hater has managed 12.

A  Not Very Warm Welcome To – Our very own Andy Williams. The 26-year-old, who left Huish Park last summer, insists he will not take it personally if some Yeovil fans give him a less than warm reception.
"Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I've no idea what response I'll get, I went there at a bit of a low in my career and Terry Skiverton and the gang there helped me out and put me back on track.  But I think they've moved on from that and they've got a number of good strikers and it doesn't look like they are particularly missing me”

Head to Head –   Of the 11 previous encounters between us, we have lost 4, won 5 and drawn 2, averaging 2.8 goals a game!

The Odds –  Yeovil 7/4    Draw 23/10   Swindon 6/4 (Ladbrokes.com) Although Paddy Madden has managed his 19 goals from just 27 appearances, lump everything on Andy Williams to make the back of the net ripple first, 11/2. Also at Ladbrokes.

The Son Says – He is buzzing just because we are on the box, he has gone for a 2-1 away win.

The Prediction -  I am sticking with my eternal optimism and following my lad on this one. 2-1 Swindon, a Williams double, one with his head and a 30 yard screamer, in front of 5’980 (999 from Wiltshire and beyond)

And Finally – Even centuries ago they were a rowdy bunch.  Like all other medieval towns, Yeovil suffered from the Black Death in 1348-49. It may have killed half the population. Then in 1349 a riot occurred in St Johns Church when the Bishop of Wells was visiting. For some time there had been arguments between the townspeople and the clergy over the markets and these boiled over into violence. When the bishop was in the church some people attacked the priests who were with him! Did they not have Scrumpy back then?

I'm going, again  ;) not holding my breath for any points down there but never say never. Hope it stays dry at least that would be something. 3-1 loss.
Good stuff SR, I'm glad you haven't been sacked as Match day starter  :)

Can't make this one, so no chance of any national TV coverage/front page of the adver this time...on to the more important thing...I have to say we need to win this one really looking below us now, not too bad of a record down there so I'll follow the optimism and say 2-1 Swindon with Roberts and an 89th minute Williams winner either side of a Yeovil equaliser. I think crowd of around 3900, with 820 Town fans making the journey! C.O.Y.R!!!!

Anyone got any good parking spots for a quick get away? I got  stuck in the away car park for ages a few years ago so the last time I parked at the bottom of the hill in the supermarket car park but I've heard they've got strict on that now so any advice would be welcomed.

Sacked? It was I that led us through those dark early season jitters, although this is likely to be down to the fact that nobody else really wanted the poisoned chalice.

You got Paolo's beanie SR? Well Jel. How'd you come by that?

Hard fought 2-1 I reckon, Williams with a pair and one of their cunts with the other one. Probably Gary fucking madine.

Shall be there, along with about 800 other Towners. Total attendance 3,500 as most of the webbed-feet crowd in Yeovil will stay inside and watch it on the sky they've bought with their benefits from their 50 kids.

Learnt to drive in Yeovil, some of the roundabouts can be a laugh, not that I'm worried about anyone from Swindon having problems, just something to be aware of if it's your first visit...

He gave it to a friend of a friend on that final Saturday, the bloke he gave it to passed it on to a close mate who passed it on to my son. Going by the fit, he had a very wide head :)

Yeah, you'll have to get there early to get a space though. Also you'll still have to queue in traffic towards the bottom of the main road but at least you skip a lot of it.

The residential estate over the road from the ground. Parked there last time and drove straight out afterwards, no hold ups.

As for tonight it's been a while since I've had zero confidence in us getting a result.  2-0 Yeovil, 450 Town fans.

last time I went tp watch a match at yeovil I got a broken rib courtesy of a yokel with an iron bar. The real pisser is that it wasn't even a Swindon match. I had agreed to go and watch qpr with a mate in a cup game.

A rested Swindon to win 1-0.

We should be rested and up for it but need to withstand the early onslaught. If we can still be in the game and half time we shoyld be ok.

Really worried though, can only see a defeat - 3-0

I was at work at 4am, so feeling a bit knackered. Could go to a mates and watch it on sky, but think I will stay home and listen on the radio with a glass of whisky in hand. I will be wearing my lucky underpants, so I will stick with 1-0 to us. We will score while I am sleeping......

I've got lucky socks, shirt, scarf, trousers, and I think I'll wear my lucky shoes. It should counteract the pessimism exuding from town fans atm.

It's a little silly (although not hugely relevant) that when we had spare seats on the bench that these kids were not there to fill them.

Both highly rated, Waldon I believe is a striker who has banged a fair few this season. Ferguson is highly rated by none other than Andy Warren, although the quality of his scouting is unknown, and Ferguson plays box to box midfield.

Why he doesn't start De Vita I don't know. Macca needs moving back to defence in my opinion too. Ferry and Miller in the middle with Roberts and De Vita on the wings. The team needs balance again.

I expect it is something to do with the amount of ineffective peformances we have seen from him. A ridiculously over rated player - remember that he was third choice left winger by the end of last season.

I've seen Alex Ferguson play a couple of times and have been very impressed. Very good awareness, positioning and passing. A little bit like Ferry in the way he plays.

Waldon is a fairly pacy direct type striker who has an ok finish.

Two teams cancelling each other out and an awful pitch.

Flint, McEveley and Roberts looking decent but we're let down by poor crosses and lack of bodies/movement in the area. Too many balls pumped aimlessly forward which won't achieve anything against a tall defence.

We look tired. We're trying our hardest on a pitch cutting to shreds, but the tempo and the movement isn't there.

The positives, Flint is playing well and the full backs are getting forward. The negatives - Flint is being overworked because Thompson is too narrow or caught upfield, and the same goes for McEveley on the left. As has been said in the past few games, we are looking incredibly exposed on the break with men caught upfield. I actually feel for them out there. They need a shot in the arm like the rest of us.

Very good second half performance by Town, after a forgettable first half.

Fully deserved to win, Yeovil didn't really threaten that much and when they did the defence made some important interceptions.

Nathan rightly MOTM, the defence in general played well

Got the buzz back from that win. Deserved it overall even though we were crap in the 1st half. Clear pen for me as the keeper made contact. In fact I thought the disallowed goal from Roberts earlier on in the half was soft. Great to see us finish it off in style as well.

Thompson was brilliant. An absolute beast at the back and clear MOTM.

Bournemouth have an easier run on paper, but have played a game more.

Deserved that from the second half performance. Agree with most said already particularly NT as MOM.

Didn't agree with the critisism of Williams. Thought as usual put a decent shift in, they were worried about him which showed by them doubling up on him whenever they could. Even then as the game went on he became more and more of a thorn in their side.

Mostly we looked better in the middle as the game went on which did it for us.

Onwards and upwards COYR.

Well done to everyone that travelled.

All round solid performance and most importantly an excellent defensive one. That last 45 puts to bed the notion we're suffering overly from fitness issues at the moment, although the lack of players to rotate will surely take its toll eventually and an injury to a key player would remain a disaster.

Also, for those who said Kmac had no passion, I hope everyone saw how he was feeling that 5 minutes added time as much as any fan.

Overall, good start to his tenure.

The first half was dire by both sides but we were easily the best side in the second and thoroughly deserved the three points.  Showed a lot more desire and passion as the game went on.  Thompson and Flint for me as man of the match, Madden didn't get a kick.  Thought JMac had a good game as well.

agree with the comments about Thompson and Flint, but thought that McEveley's crossing was poor, too many crosses from thirty yards from the touchline aimed at the 18 yard line, even if we had won a header we would never score from such a long way out

Agree, that's definitely a myth. That shitty Late Kick Off show did a feature on Swindon last week when we played Walsall and KM was going mad on the touch line. Just because he's not a psycho some people think he's got no passion. They could not be more wrong.

Game was televised live on Setanta here in Sydney so my first chance to see the team in action this season. Thought the first half was pretty poor and couldn't believe the amount of space in the middle of our defence that was afforded the Yeovil attackers when the ball was crossed in from the left.

Second half was much better with us looking a lot more fluid. Good to see Williams using his pace to try to open the game up but for me Nathan Thompson was MoTM by a country mile. The covering challenge he put on Hayter in the second half was superb and wouldn't have been out of place in the EPL.

The only other thing that worries me just a little is Fods trying to dribble the ball around an oncoming attacker. He got away with it tonight but it is only a matter of time before someone causes him major embarrassment.

Have a major smile on my face this morning and it has nothing to do with me getting lucky with the missus.

I thought Jay had a much better defensive game tonight after a series of dodgy performances, the whole back 4 were great against 2 good strikers.

Macca sent the ball in for Roberts for the pen & then set up Collins at the end, definitely a better CM at this level than defender.

Last word for KMac, it was obvious that the 1st half tactic of high balls into the box wasn't working, had the nouce to change things and we were much better 2nd half, fair play to him

NT worthy of motm, cracking performance!

Really enjoyed that!

- Thought Thompson was the best player on the park by far
- McCormack has fantastic vision and is a class above anything else we have in midfield
- Ward and Flint scared me. So little pace and so one footed.
- What a superb penalty by Rooney. As for his general play, he really reminds me of Andy Mutch.
- Williams was anonymous 1st half and excellent (with no final product) 2nd
- Twice they have bigged up Roberts on TV. Twice for me he has been disappointing
- Miller. Game seemed to mostly pass him by.
- Didn't notice L Rooney nor RDV when they came on
- Collins looked strong but a little slow
- McEverley's positioning was mostly good.
- Would be interesting to see Thompson play with Caddis infront of him

Shocked we won it though. Thought we would get dicked before the game. First half I still thought we'd lose. Second half I thought we would huff and puff all night, dominate the game and slip up at the end. How wrong can you be!

I don't think this is the case at all. A transfer embargo, as far as I can tell from the FL website, only prevents us from registering new players.

"subject the Club to a registration embargo such that it shall not be permitted to register any Player with that Club without the prior written consent of the Executive until such time as the breach identified by Regulation 16.6 has been rectified in its entirety to the Board's satisfaction."

Back home now, first half non eventful, they missed a couple, one a sitter and 2nd half we took it to them and deserved our goals. Heard plenty of their fans moaning on the way out saying we were jammy but we took our chances and they didn't. That's the only time I've enjoyed a trip down there and after tonight may even go back. Did they say on the radio/tv how many was at the game? Was expecting a few more Town fans but it made the queue for coffee shorter. Big confidence boost that win and after the final whistle the players were really milking it, Good lads  :)

Just got back. Bed's a-calling, so will A. keep it relatively short and B. I haven't got time to read anything anyone else has put, so apologies if I repeat things.

First half: tentative and nervy. Thompson was absolutely fantastic after being clattered and getting booked in the first 10mins (Never a booking btw). We had 3 central midfielders, but couldn't play more than two or three balls between them. Roberts either dithered or dribbled into Yeovil players every chance he got. Could see why Yeovil had done so well this season- lots of threat, particularly on the counter (a trend for teams against us). Everything was a bit wobbly, and I was happy to see us 0-0 into halftime. Jay mac was surprisingly good.

Second Half: Jay mac started to get rubbish. Roberts' goal should have stood. I have yet to work out why it was disallowed, other than for shoulder/shoulder contact between defender and Roberts, in which case it was a fucking stupid decision as it was entirely a 50/50 situation. Clear penalty for us, taken smartly and cleanly by Rooney. Yeovil's penalty shout I will have to watch back, but from texts from people watching on sky, the Yeovil player dived like a fish. Ferry coming off was understandable as he was obviously having a hammy problem. Thompson continued to piss off the Yeovil support and players by blocking, tackling, and generally running our defence. Flint looked much better second half. De Vita made some decent touches to keep the ball at the right end of the pitch. Luke Rooney ran and ran, as did Collins. Deserved goal at the death.

Generally, I'm happy with what I saw (first Kmac game for me), although the bunching up of our players is a concern. Our wings were defensively poor and in attack not a lot better, primarily because we played surprisingly narrow. With Ward and Flint pushing up to the halfway line at times we were not only lessening the space for our central midfield to play in, but risking long balls over the top. Didn't pay for it today, but that was mostly because of Yeovil's poor shooting, and Nathan Thompson's truly brilliant performance. We spent a lot of the match getting hustled off the ball because there wasn't enough space to pass into, or play around the Yeovil players. We need to stretch opposing teams a little bit more than we are now.

But that's just me nitpicking. As a bonus, Collins' goal knocks Yeovil out of the playoff spots, which goes down very well with me as it pisses off a load of people in my local.

Ferry ferry ferry ferry ferry ferry ferry.

Personally I thought they were both excellent, Flint especially who I thought showed a surprisingly good turn of pace on a few occasions. Having said that, I only watched on the box so will defer to the opinion of someone who actually went. And although it generally worked tonight, I must admit to remaining sceptical about the high line of defence we seem to have adopted when those two are at the back.

Very poor first half but in a complete opposite to last week we got stronger and stronger as the game went on , all this nonsense talk of not looking as fit In the lat few games tonight we fitter and stronger.

Isn't it strange how peoples views change in a week.  Brentford was by all accounts the better performance, yet last week everyone was bitchin.

A week later, 30 mins of half decent football and KMAC et all are world beaters.

Not complaining, just pointing out how fickle football fans are.

We'll be doomed again by 6pm Saturday night....

Ferry is nowhere near as creative as McCormack. Actually, he isn't as combative either. Think I'd still have McCormack over Ferry.

Yes, they did well. But Flint especially looked a second away from disaster nearly every time he had the ball.

from where i watched in the ski resort i live in in france flint looked as composed a CB as you'll see at this level.

also anyone who criticizes ferry can go watch every other team in L1 and get back to me on who is better in his position.  do that and i will donate money in order to sign him myself - don't even know how to convey how wrong you are?!

I agree. McCormack is more combative, but has nowhere near Ferry's level of creativity and vision. Don't get me wrong, I like McCormack, but he's not got the range of passing or consistency that makes Ferry our standout player.

I'd wager KM's start would be better had we played Ferry centrally over either Miller or Macca.

Saw the second half last night when I got back in. First half was even Stevens. Second half we thoroughly deserved our win Adam Rooney played well in the second half after having a quiet first half I thought. Everyone played well for me so everyone deserves MOM. That was a monumental win, to the point that Radio Zummerzet did not get an interview out of Johnson till after I lost radio contact on my way home.

A few post match pints in the big marquee went down well as I could not be arsed to walk to the Arrow pub. Parked opposite the ground in the Ind Est and was out pretty pronto. Job well done so let's hope they follow that up by winning on Saturday which is my BD, be a nice additional present.

No need to guess. There were 546 STFC fans!

Which is good cause the agricultural fans were singing is that all you take away in the first half, a piss poor showing from us really for an away fixture midweek and on telly (tonuge in cheek) when you consider they only bought 433 to us on a Saturday.

Similar to Coventry I think the starting line up and formation was wrong also like Coventry I think KMacs timing of the subs and formation change were 100% spot on and won us the game.

I remember watching Thompson play right back in a reserve game maybe 4 years ago now where he was up against a still decent Lee Trundle where he marked him out the game and Trundle got really annoyed and had a strop. Knew Thompson would make it then 83% certain I posted this at the time as well...

Just a couple of things.

Went to Brentford last week as we were done by them just pumping long balls over the back four and thought we also looked a bit vulnerable to that tactic again tonight. Some great last ditch tackles saved the day

And how good could we be if we only had a normal, functioning board backing up the players on the pitch

Though we are a bit slow at the back I thought - as many others have said - NT was great. Flint also made a couple of blinding challenges and kept Madden quiet for the most part, best I've seen him play for a while.

Seemed like at HT we realised pinging crosses from deep into their two giant centre backs wasn't the best ploy and looked miles better second half. Collins is this season's Connell - supersub!

McCormack has been a revelation back in the centre of midfield - 3 brilliant performances against Cov, Walsall and now Yeovil. Wouldn't mind seeing more of L Rooney in the run-in either, although think MacDonald is using him wisely off the bench against tired defences.

Now just need to recapture that home form of the turn of the year, must go to Doncaster with a further six points and we should be brimming with confidence.

Unfortunately Notts County, have a very decent away record, in terms of being hard to beat...only lost 3, so not an easy game to turn around poor form.

There hasn't been many seasons where we've reached 10 away wins...I can think of 2 without checking.

But that 'disaster' never actually materialized did it? I would call it not panicking under pressure myself, which is a trait shared by all top defenders.

I've watched Flint over 90 minutes 4 times this year (Crawley, Colchester, Coventry, Yeovil) and the bloke has been absolutely awesome every time. If he has missed a header or tackle in that time, then I've not seen it.

I love him.

FACT! 8)

P.S. Having said that, I would like to see us using him to far, far greater effect at set pieces. The bloke's a human totem pole and we should be looking at getting 10+ goals out of him per season.

Agreed. Seemed under Di Canio he was often stationed beyond the back post at corners/free kicks to nod it back across goal. As you rightly say he should be a credible goal threat if attacking the box from set pieces.

Fantastic win all things considered.

Nathan was excellent, composed on the ball and hard in the tackle with excellent positional sense. Love the fact he's come through our youth teams as well.

Flint had a good game, always a bit nervous when he has the ball at his feet though. Williams had a good second half and its always refreshing to see someone take a player on. Roberts has quality on the ball but just lacked a final product tonight which is a shame as he definitely has talent.

McCormack had a good game but I'd take ferry over him in the middle all day. Ferry would slot in to a champ side no problem IMO, his passing and awareness is way above the rest of our squad that coupled with his energy makes him a big asset. Pretty sure he's out of contract soon..

Next two games are huge for us...

Still buzzing today after that result and performance (particularly 2nd half), as everyone has said Nathan Thompson was an absolute rock and we should be looking to renew his contract asap.  I must say both Flint and JMac have been our weak links in recent games but both were massively better last night.

Think Tommy Miller was our only poor performer and would still love to see Ferry and McCormack together in centre mid, think there styles of play would compliment each other well.

I feel Roberts form has really picked up since Ritchie left, he must of set up at least 3 goals in the last 4 games, it seems to me that some fans have an irrational hatred for him though particularly at home games.

Really hoping we sort out the home form because if we do then we will win this league!

Haven't celebrated that much for ages when we scored a goal :)

Loved it, first half was crap, Flint looked off the mark as did JMac in the first half, pumped too much long and didn't threaten them at all and how Hayter (I think) missed 2 almost sitters kept us in the game.

Myself, Pumbaa, Herthab, Flash and Victor Meldrew were all saying at half time we will be happy with a draw, it was cold and the pitch was like a slashed bus seat (Mr Flash) and that Yeovil seemed they wanted it more.......well turns out we were very wrong!

2nd half what a turn around, we played the ball on the floor and passed it around so much better than them all over the pitch. Flint and JMac were back at the races and in the 2nd half we didn't look like conceding, even with Foders insisting on dribbling with the ball before kicking it, despite this I havent felt that confident in a Swindon keeper for years....possibly ever.

The Penalty was right in front of us and I personally, and all around me, thought Roberts certainly looked for the penalty and there was practically zero contact at all, but the ref gave it and Rooney cooly slotted it in, brilliant!

Collins came on and really made a difference up front with his running and strength and deserved his goal at the end.

The passion shown by the players was evident at the end, I was very proud to be part of it even though I have a bruised jaw and hand from the celebrations (thanks to Pumbaa!).

Hopefully we can kick on a bit now....again!

Last word goes to Nathan Thompson....who other than 1 misstimed tackle which earned him a booking (a tackle which looked like he was getting revenge for an earlier bad tackle on him) he did not put a foot wrong all game, this lad is a star in the making, the hardest tackling fullback since Rambo!

Well done to the 550 ish Town fans that bothered to turn up, it was a great night in the end.

Pitch was shit and didnt help but we were by far better in the second half.

If we had drawn at Brentford and drawn last night we would probably be happy but as it is we have three points and not two.....saying that....it is our home form that fucks us.

Nice to see Herthab and JJ and pumba last night......

Three home points...pretty fucking please...

A lot of the criticism about how we look shaky at the back is because of the very high line we play. So much space behind the back four will always make us vulnerable to balls knocked over the top. I presume our plan is to press and win the ball higher up and attack quickly but Miller was anonymous in the deeper role leaving McCormack to cover two roles.

That's a Good point, I noticed towards the end That Yeovil looked shattered and we were really stretching them for the last half hour or so.  was also good to see we didn't seem to sit back to much and panic after our 1st goal. Apart from a quiet first half I really enjoyed the night.

Noticed a few comments on here about Wes dribbling the ball out - I havent seen them much this season but that was probably the first time I've seen him try to do that. Wonder if it was due to the pitch - a nasty bobble could see him doing a Hammond, whereas if he takes a touch hes got more chance of a clean connection. Or has he been doing this a lot this year ?

Very happy with that, first half a bit scrappy but second half we were definitely the better team. KMac's changes were very positive I thought and helped us win.

Thompson needs a new contract ASAP, he was fantastic last night. Miller was the only one who didn't play well I thought but Macca was brilliant. Keep him in CM with Ferry (hope the hamstring problem won't keep him out).

Next two games are vital that we get 6 points , 4 points is an absolute minimum. Notts County are very hard to beat as the league table shows whilst Oldham have a new manager and won 3-0 last night so will be up for it.

Thompson & Flint were the 2 standout performers for me, Flint in particular, who I thought did a terrific job on Madden. Have to agree with the comments re Miller who I thought looked laboured and when he did have the ball tended to give it away very cheaply. I think we need a CM, a winger & a striker to supplement what we've already got. Injuries and suspensions aside I'm more than happy with the backline.

When a goalkeeper is under pressure just hoof the ball away as far as possible, its only gunna end up biting you in the arse at some point. I like A Rooney, he's grown on me after a long spell in the shadows

Miller has the sort of game that wont stand out even when he does play well, he is there do the a lot of the unpretty stuff in front of the back floor.

I dont think his game is helped by the dreadfull pitches we have had to play on recently away from home. Its tough to take the ball of CB and then pass it out on the deck when pitch is cutting up or made of sand.  In saying that he hasnt put in great shifts recently at home so i think im talking bollocks actually.

Agree regarding JMac, defensively he was terrifc last night. The game really did pass TM by at times though. He looks in need of a rest atm & I fully expect to see Navarro given a run in the next couple of weeks if he can get back to full fitness. Miller's ball retention was very poor last night but I supose we shouldn't be looking for negatives to detract from what was a very efficient team performance.

Great result last night.

I was mildly concerned at half-time, as Yeovil were knocking the ball around quite comfortably, certainly looked more composed than us although in terms of chances it was pretty even.

Second half we looked much better from the start. Williams got in a few nice runs and it looked like they weren't able to press us as well as they were doing in the first half.

Stonewall penalty, and Collins looked really bright when he came on. Thomson was great throughout. Made some great tackles on that whinging, diving gypsy Madden. If we could sort our home form out we could go up automatically this season.

Wouldn't mind seeing 442 on Saturday with maybe Luke Rooney starting on the right. Gives us something a little bit different when we've been struggling to create when teams park the bus.

Darren Ward has been brilliant for us this season, his recovery pace is unbelievable for a 34 year old.

Reads everything too.

Has he read 50 shades of grey?  :sherlock:

*SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT*

I was on match report duty for thewashbag.com for the Yeovil game. Give it a read and continue basking in the glory of returning to 3rd in League 1.

Out of interest, did we get 11+ away wins in any (or all) of those seasons?  It'd be interesting to know if 10 was an arbitrary cut-off or whether I should re-mortgage my house and get down the bookies.
We got 14 in 95/96. Don't know about the others.

Think it was 13...one more than the 12 home wins. There haven't been too many seasons where away wins out number home wins...this might be another.

If any Nigerians were involved I would be 100% behind them. Everyone knows they're remarkably generous with their money and make excellent films.
I'm always winning their lottery, keep giving them my bank details but nothing goes in, and I blame the wife when everything goes out!!

You didn't tell me about the jaw!!!!!

Fuck....sorry fella....but it was worth it!

At what, 4am or 5am local time?!  Mental.

Game kicked off at 6:45am which was perfect. Watched the game then went straight to work.

Bank holiday game at Doncaster is also live on Setanta and will be an 11:15pm kickoff (local time). Got to go to work the next day but that won't stop me watching the game.

The most common away day injury for me seems to be bruised shins, from hitting the seat in front.

Luton was the worst for that.

Nathan Thompson's flying knee revenge tackle has cemented his place as my new favourite Town player. Wonderful stuff.

No chance of that happening at Yeovil (unless you were sat in the seats, obviously). I've taken my other half's 20 year old son to 3 away games this season and he's yet to see us lose. If we need anything at Scunthorpe,  I'll drag him there!

I'll be in a bar in Turkey for the Donny game. Unfortunately its on at the same time as the Chelsea v Man U FA Cup replay. However I know the owners of the sea front establishment for the game so there are going to be some hacked off plastic Premiership fans!
